Prepare To Ryse To Power

Posted on November 20, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Continuing our coverage of the Xbox One launch videos, we have yet another exclusive Xbox One title to show you: Ryse: Son Of Rome. While I don’t want to go as far to say this game is one of the reasons people will buy the Xbox One at launch, I will say that this game is looking fantastic!

Ryse: Son of Rome tells the story of Marius Titus who witnesses the murder of his family at the hands of barbarians. Seeking revenge, Marius joins the Roman army in Britannia and quickly rises through the ranks to become a General. As his war against the barbarians escalates, his quest unravels: to find his vengeance, he has to return to Rome.

Dead Rising 3’s Launch Trailer

Posted on November 19, 2013 by Joshua Rust

What better way to kick on the Xbox One system release than to get a look at one the launch trailers for the exclusive Dead Rising 3?  For continuum junkies, this game takes place almost 12 years after the events in Dead Rising 2. New added features is a “simpler” mode that won’t rush people into completing missions within a certain time frame (but don’t worry, there is a Nightmare mode for hardcore gamers that is just like the previous two sequels).

Other features include a complete open world where the are no loading times, if a user is implementing a second screen experience (through SmartGlass) they will find new interactive features throughout the game – for example, a government phone that can call in an airstrike, and though Kinect 2.0 you will be able to order your posse to attack the zombie hordes.

But, enough of that, if you want to see the launch trailer…continue after the jump!

New Trailer For Dying Light Shows Off New Lighting System

Posted on November 19, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

It has been a while since we’ve covered Techland & Warner Bro’s upcoming zombie action title Dying Light. Yesterday the publisher released a brand new trailer showcasing a reworked lighting engine, based upon Techland’s Chrome Engine 6 this brief trailer shows off some really realistic lighting conditions in a highly detailed city-scape. According to Warner Bros this brand new engine harnesses the power of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

An open world action gameDying Light tasks players with fighting off the undead while trying to survive as they collect pieces of scrap & debris to fashion make-shift weapons. The game also utilizes a pretty impressive parkour style free-roaming mechanic.

We don’t know the exact release date for Dying Light outside of a wide 2014 window. It will be available for Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Warner Bros Interactive Announces Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor

Posted on November 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Warner Bros Interactive has announced a brand new Lord of the Rings videogame with the reveal of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. A third person action game, Mordor casts the player as Talion a range whom is killed while battling the forces of Mordor. As he draws his final breath Talion is revived by the spirit of vengeance and given the same powers that the Ring Wraiths posses. Sworn to destroy the forces that ended his mortal existence, Shadow of Mordor sounds like an awesome tale of revenge with a fantasy twist.

The developers have also revealed one of the game’s unique mechanics – the fact that each enemy you encounter is different. Every character will have their own attributes such as strength, their own personality and their own weaknesses. Also briefly mentioned was the Nemesis System where Talion will forge rivalries with enemy NPCs. It is unknown if the Nemesis System pertains to only major characters in the story-line or if its type specific, similar to the way that players can have a “favoured” enemy in some pen & paper systems, affording them extra bonuses.

Shadows of Mordor will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. If you’re looking for more updates why not head on over to their official website or twitter page?

Surprise! You Can Battle Aliens In COD: Ghost’s Extinction Mode

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts are already out in the wild. Considering the game is due out in a week’s time, this should come as a surprise to no one. What is a bit of a surprise, is the reveal of Extinction Mode, a sort of replacement for the ever popular Zombies mode that challenges you to battle off waves of extra terrestrials.

The confirmation of Extinction mode comes after several screen grabs of the mode made their way around the internet over the weekend. You won’t be battling the alien hordes right away mind you, unlike Zombies – Extinction is unlocked after you’ve completed the first five campaign missions in Ghosts.

Check out a brief trailer and official description after the jump!Read More

Pricing Details On Killer Instinct For Xbox One

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Les Major

Best Buy was hosting an event over the weekend to get to try the Xbox One. We showed up just at closing time and got to try out Killer Instinct before they wrapped up for the day. To my surprise the reps did know pricing for the characters. For those who don’t know, the new Killer Instinct has a free version which features Jago as the only playable character. Others can be bought seperately or as a bundle. We now know that pricing.Read More

Rumor: Alien Isolation In Development At Creative Assembly

Posted on October 22, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The long running Aliens franchise is set to return to our living rooms next year in the form of a brand new video game being developed by the studio behind Total War, Creative Assembly. Titled Alien: Isolation, this new first person shooter has  reportedly been in development for some time for both current gen (PS3 / Xbox 360) & next-gen (PC / PS4/ Xbox One) platforms  and will hopefully not end up in a similar PR nightmare that Aliens: Colonial Marines became during its launch this past spring.Read More

Microsoft Says You Shouldn’t Place Xbox One Upright

Posted on September 21, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Whenever we’ve seen the Xbox One on display, either in promotional shots or during major events, the console has always been positioned flat.       So if you’re looking to save some space in your entertainment center by standing your brand new Xbox upright you may be doing so at your own risk.

In a brief quote Senior Microsoft VP Albert Panello explained that the console’s disc drive was designed to be used vertically. Its slot based design is very similar to the self-loading trays found in the PlayStation 3, Wii-U and original Wii, and those consoles offer optional vertical stands. But, then again those consoles also probably don’t weigh as much as the upcoming Xbox One.

To GameSpot Panello Said:

“It wouldn’t be a cooling problem, we just didn’t design the drive for vertical. Because it’s a slot loading drive, we just didn’t design it for both.”

Xbox One Launches November 22nd 2013

Posted on September 4, 2013 by Les Major

Microsoft announced today that their next-gen console will be released on November 22nd. The system, which it seems is unable to be pre-ordered anywhere anymore, retails for $500. This launch includes the initial launch markets of Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. More markets will follow in 2014.

The Xbox 360 was released in the USA and Canada back in 2005, also on November 22nd. With day one exclusives like Dead Rising 3, a new Killer Instinct, and Ryse: Son of Rome, Microsofts latest system is looking very promising now that many DRM concerns that fans were against have been removed. The console does still come with Kinect but it seems the add on is no longer required.

It’s been a rough couple months for Xbox, but they have listened to their fans and most importantly have shown some very promising titles on the way.

Microsoft Changes Course On Kinect For Xbox One

Posted on August 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

You need not worry about the mandatory Kinect policy Microsoft announced earlier in the year. It was only a little while after E3 that Microsoft reversed their DRM policies for the Xbox One and now the company has changed tone once again, stating the users will be able to turn off the motion sensor in the system’s settings menu, or unplug it all together.

Marc Whitten of Microsoft gave a bit of a sound bite to IGN regarding the new policy:

“That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn’t plugged in, although you won’t be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor,”  Read More

Titanfall Dev Diary Takes You Behind The Scenes

Posted on June 20, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Respawn Entertainment, you know…the group of people that left Infinity Ward and Call Of Duty to pursue their own visions, have released a developer diary today of the game Titanfall. This, in many gamers eyes, is one of the big exclusives that Microsoft has up its’ sleeve.

Set in a distant frontier torn apart by war, Titanfall gives players the freedom to switch between fighting as elite assault Pilots or agile, heavily armored, 24-foot tall Titans. The advanced warfare of tomorrow gives you the freedom to fight your way as both elite assault Pilot and agile, heavily armored Titan. Online gameplay is core to the Titanfall experience, as fast-paced multiplayer action is combined with heroic moments from traditional campaign mode.

In this developer diary Drew McCoy, among other developers, want to show gamers what makes their game different from other shooters out there – and not just the shiny graphics.Read More

The Elder Scrolls Online Headed To Xbox One & PS4

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Proof that developers and publisher still believe that MMO’s can work on consoles. Defiance has started off on a pretty good note, it lacks a little depth after putting in about 100+ hours but it’s still proof that they can work on a console.

So, nothing makes me happier to confirm that Bethesda is bringing The Elder Scrolls Online to both the Xbox One & Playstation 4 – targeted at a 2014 release date. Straying from the traditional single player formula, TESO looks like it could be the next World Of Warcraft. Question remains, can they keep the integrity of what makes the TES games so great and transfer that into an MMO? I say yes.

Released at E3 was a gameplay trailer, which you can view after the jump!Read More

Remedy Looking To Make Time Stand Still With Quantum Break

Posted on June 10, 2013 by Les Major

Remedy won me over with Alan Wake. Every E3 in recent memory, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the lights to go out and the familiar, “Last time on Alan Wake,” announcement to resound throughout the Xbox press event. So it was a sad thing to hear Remedy was putting Alan Wake aside for Quantum Break. However, this new IP does look very promising and it is from a team I now trust to deliver an excellent gaming experience.

It sounds like Quantum Break is very much about decisions you make and how they affect the outcome of the game. Our hero, Jack Joyce, is the survivor of a science experiment that unfortunately killed his brother and broke down time. This break down produces anomalies where time stutters and freezes, such as displayed in the trailer after the break.Read More
