Emerge From The Shadows In Batman: Arkham Knight

Posted on March 12, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Dark Knight swoops his way onto the brand new Xbox One & PlayStation 4 this Fall with the release of Batman: Arkham Knight. Billed as the final chapter in RockSteady’s long running Arkham series – following 2009’s Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Arkham City – this brand new title will finally allow players stop baddies while cruising through Gotham City in the bat-mobile. Prior games featured the signature car but Knight marks the first time that players will actually be able to get behind the wheel. Aside from the reveal of the lead platform we also know more about the game’s plot and mechanics.Read More

Next Gen Vs Current Gen: Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes

Posted on February 20, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

Want to take a look at how Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes compares between console generations? Well, wonder no longer because Konami has released a two minute comparison video that shows us the differences between the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Alongside this visual comparison, Konami also revealed the resolutions and frame rates for each version.

Next Generation players on either platform will be able to enjoy Ground Zereos at 60 frames per second but there are some caveats – only the PS4 version will run natively at 1080p. On current generation systems and the Xbox One the game will run at 720P. If you’re sporting a last generation system the game will run at 30 FPS and 720P.

From the multiple viewings of this trailer that I watched prior to the publication of this article the major differences between the two generations, FPS and resolution aside, appear to be more realistic lighting, cleaner shadows and higher resolution textures in the next gen version.

Which version will you be picking up? We’ll be reviewing the PlayStation 3 build of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes shortly after release. The game will be out on March 18th in North America and March 20th in Europe.  Make sure to check out Konami’s video after the jump.Read More

LOTR Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor Gameplay Surfaces

Posted on January 23, 2014 by Les Major

GameSpot has released some gameplay footage that shows what Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s new Lord of the Rings title Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor looks like from Monolith Productions. So far it seems to be somewhat Assassin’s Creed inspired with random rival generation which makes Orc foes that you build a history against called the Nemesis System. All this taking place between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Interestingly, this is possibly the first non canon LOTR video game. Read on for the video!Read More

CHARTED: Week Ending January 4, 2014

Posted on January 18, 2014 by Jason Nason

Previously I’ve been looking just at Nintendo’s titles in the top thirty to see where they stack, but this time I’m going to instead take a look at just the top ten games for both the USA and Japan.

It’s amazing to see the differences in the top tens between the two territories. There is only one game from Nintendo systems in the top ten in the United States for the week ending January 5th, 2014, with the title being Pokémon X/Y for the 3DS. The highest ranked Wii U game is actually Super Mario 3D World, which landed on the chart at 16. Interestingly enough Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2014 for the Wii landed at number 6.

Taking a look at the Japan top ten we see a different story, with games from Nintendo systems taking up eight of the top ten spots. Only Square Enix’s recently released Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster on PS3 and PS Vita could crack into the top ten.

Take a look at the full top ten rankings for the USA and Japan.

Ubisoft Has a New JRPG-Inspired Game in the Works

Posted on January 13, 2014 by Jason Nason

Ubisoft announced a new downloadable title was in the works back in September, and the game will be a JRPG inspired title. Child of Light centres around Aurora who, after falling ill, finds her soul transported from her home to the magical kingdom of Lemuria where the Black Queen had stolen the Sun, the Moon and the Stars.

Here is some of the details from the announcement:

Now that her soul is in Lemuria, Aurora must find the missing light sources and defeat the Black Queen to restore the kingdom. Guiding her through the darkness is a floating ball of light named Igniculus, who can be controlled by a second player. Aurora and Igniculus have entirely different playstyles. There will be places Igniculus can travel but Aurora cannot, in addition to their skills during battle. Aurora is the recognizable RPG standard – attacking and defending against enemies using magic and her massive sword – while Igniculus uses his light source to blind enemies and slow them down, directly heal comrades and collect orbs to restore the party member’s health and mana.

Xbox One Ships 1 Million In Under 24 Hours

Posted on November 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Although there have been reports of the Xbox One having issues, that’s not stopped it from selling over 1 million consoles in less that 24 hours. Following similar success from the Playstation 4 it looks as if both consoles are off to a great start. In the UK, the Xbox One sold over 150,000 consoles which is double the figure of the Xbox 360’s launch numbers – and puts it just a few thousand units away from topping the Wii U’s lifetime sales in the UK (which launched December 2012).

Other interesting stats over the first 24 hours…

  • Over 60 million zombies have been killed in Dead Rising 3
  • Over 3.6 million miles were driven in Forza Motorsport 5
  • Over 7.1 million combos were pulled off in Killer Instinct
  • Over 8.5 million enemies have been defeated in Ryse: Son of Rome
  • Over 43.3 million Fit Points were earned in Xbox Fitness

While both consoles have had isolated hardware issues, it’s great to see both platforms start off solid.  Reviews and impressions of the Xbox One and games are on the way, so stay tuned!

LEGO The Hobbit Officially Announced

Posted on November 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Traveller’s Tales, creator of the fantastic LEGO games, has announced today a new LEGO game based off a popular book series that you may have heard of…LEGO The Hobbit. While some may see these as kids games, I’ll have to give TT credit because the last few games (LEGO Batman 2, LEGO Marvel, LEGO Lord of the Rings), have been exceptionally fun – yes, even for a “kids game”.

Reports of Xbox One Disc Drive Malfunctions Continue

Posted on November 24, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Owners of Microsoft’s recently released Xbox One console are reporting a very particular issues – a grinding disc drive that fails to read discs properly. We don’t know how widespread the issue is, as the console is only 48 hrs old as of the writing of this article, but Kotaku reports at least 4 different YouTube videos outlining the same issue with the disc drives. Similarly they also received over a hundred different emails from readers who were affected by the busted disk drives –heck gaming mega site IGN also reported that one of their console had the same problem.

Regardless of how widespread the DVD drive issues are, Microsoft has promised to take care of all those affected. In a rather lengthy quote, as reported by VG 247, a spokesperson for Microsoft outlined the various ways that gamers can get a hold of them should their console break.Read More

Killer Instinct Launch Trailer Has Arrived

Posted on November 21, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Killer Instinct will launch on the Xbox One as a free-to-play downloadable digital game tonight. Quite a few gamers that were deemed worthy enough actually received the Season One characters for free for being a loyal customer. What those qualifications were, who knows? But it is pretty awesome that Microsoft did give this out for free to some lucky gamers. If you weren’t fortunate enough to make the list, you will have to buy the additional characters. Pricing, depending on what you want to do, ranges from $19.99 to $59.99. You will be able to see these options when you download Killer Instinct for free tonight (or tomorrow).
