Posted on January 21, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Xbox One

Major Nelson announced on his blog that 11 games have been added to the Xbox One backwards list. He also made readers aware of a policy change that will enable MS to push Xbox 360 emulators as soon as they pass certification rather than on a monthly roll out.  More information on the Xbox Backwards compatibility is available through the Xbox F.A.Q.

Interestingly players have logged over 21 million hours playing older software on their Xbox One consoles.

Here’s the full list of titles that have been added:

  • Aegis Wings
  • Age of Booty
  • Counter-Strike: GO
  • Jeremy McGrath Offroad
  • Sam & Max Save The World
  • Skullgirls
  • Smallgirls
  • Small Arms
  • Soulcalibur

Ubisoft Launches Viral Ad Campaign “Cash Contagion” For The Division

Posted on January 11, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Division

First spotted on the Ubisoft YouTube channel, the publisher has launched what appears to be an attempt at a viral marketing campaign for the upcoming Tom Clancy’s The Division.

If you live in Europe you can take a photograph of a British Pound of EURO bank note and input the serial number into the Cash Contagion website to supposedly see how far the bill has traveled around the world and the amount of bacteria present in the banknote.

In Tom Clancy’s The Division a contagion has spread throughout the United States of America that has caused the collapse of all vital services within the span of 5 days. As part of the Strategic Homeland Division (or the division) players must help stop the effects of the contagion and maintain order within society.

What do you think of this attempt at an (almost literal) viral marketing campaign? Currently the site only supports European currencies so we couldn’t try it out for ourselves.

New Dying Light The Following Story Trailer

Posted on January 7, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Techland, the developers behind Dying Light, have given fans another glimpse into the story for the upcoming expansion in a brand new trailer titled “A Prophecy Incarnated”. This trailer also gives viewers a brief glimpse at some of the new characters to be introduced in this expansion as well as its’ new environments.

Dying Light: The Following is a major expansion for the original 2015 game. Following the original game’s protagonist The Following drops players into a new area known as Harran’s Outback. Game-play balance is adjusted in The Following with a focus on wider open rural areas, drivable vehicles and the usage of firearms.

There are multiple ways that players can gain access to the following – it will be included in the re-release of the original game with several improvements as Dying Light: Enhanced Edition, it will be included for Season’s Pass holders or separately as ala carte DLC for $19.99 USD.

Rock Band 4 Rings In The New Year With Six New Tracks

Posted on December 28, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Harmonix has revealed the last batch of downloadable content heading to your living room in 2015. If you’re staying in this New Year’s Eve perhaps you should pull out the drum kit or microphone before counting down because artists like Weezer, Ellie Goulding, Cold Play, Sam Hunt & more will have new tracks available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

To be honest the other two acts featured in the last content drop for 2015 are Justin Bieber and One Direction, however I can’t advise playing either of their songs at your New Year’s gathering unless you want all of your guests to leave before the clock strikes midnight.

Here’s the full rundown of new tracks coming tomorrow, Each will be prices at $1.99 USD:

Coldplay            “Adventure of a Lifetime”
Ellie Goulding            “On My Mind”
Justin Bieber            “What Do You Mean?”
One Direction            “Drag Me Down”
Sam Hunt            “Leave The Night On”

Rare Releases Behind The Scenes Video For N64 Classic Perfect Dark

Posted on December 24, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Can you believe that it has been 15 years since Rare LTD and Nintendo released the N64 swansong Perfect Dark? Hell, it has been half a decade since Microsoft and Rare LTD released the HD remake on Xbox Live.

To help promote the re-release of the HD Perfect Dark remake as part of the Rare Replay collection on Xbox One Rare has posted a very in-depth video featuring several of the prominent developers from the PD team. This video not only covers the development process that Rare’s 90s team used – No regular meetings, no deadlines and folks just adding in brand new features without a light at the end of the tunnel.

Watching this video is really a nostalgia trip.

Nyko’s Data Bank Hard Drive for Xbox One Now Available

Posted on December 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Leading console accessories manufacturer Nyko today announced on twitter the release of the Data Bank for Xbox One, a sleek, streamlined hard drive enclosure that affixes to the top of the console and expands data storage with any 3.5” hard drive. Current enclosures on the market are less visually appealing and are detached from the console, leaving a cable trail and taking up unnecessary space. The Data Bank for Xbox One solves this problem with an enclosure that matches the materials and angles of the console, and simply attaches to the top. You can now purchase the Data Bank at GameStop,Amazon, or the Nyko online store today for MSRP $39.99.

The Data Bank

The fit is really quite pretty

This massive harddrive extension is built specifically to fit right on top of the Xbox One and Nyko’s head of sales and marketing Chris Arbogast offers this as the reason you need one:

“If gamers purchase at least one new game a month, they’d have to start deleting old games or upgrade storage within the first couple of years after purchasing the Xbox One, The Data Bank provides the most cost-effective method to make limited save space a thing of the past, in a way that maintains the clean look of the original console design.” If you are interested you can check out the video of the console addition here

Here Are The Free Xbox Live Gold Games For January 2016

Posted on December 21, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Xbox One

It might not even be 2016 yet but Xbox’s Major Nelson has taken the wraps off of the free games that Xbox Live subscribers will gain access to at the beginning of next year.

On the Xbox One front – Owners of Mircrosoft’s Xbox One can go for broke in an all out brawl with Killer Instinct: Season 1 Ultra Edition. This season pass is normally $40 and gives Killer Instinct players access to all 9 fighters and extra costumes included in Season One. Also coming to Xbox One is Zheroes an Indies @ Xbox game – basically a stylized side scrolling beat’em-up.

For owners of Microsoft’s last generation console, Xbox 360, Microsoft will be giving away DIRT: Showndown and Square Enix’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Unfortunately this is the vanilla version and not the Director’s Cut re-release which includes New Game+, Improved Textures, Reworked Boss Fights and Developer Commentary.

As is the case with all Xbox 360 games released on Games With Gold – both DIRT: Showdown and Deus Ex are backwards compatible on Xbox One.

Here’s the full line-up with dates:

Xbox One
Killer Instinct Season One Ultimate – Jan 1st Thru 31st
Zheroes – Jan 16th Thru 15th

Xbox 360

DIRT Showdown – Jan 1st Thru 15th
Deus Ex Human Revolution – Jan 16th Thru 31st

Xbox Boss: Killer Instinct & Gears Ultimate Coming To PC In Early 2016

Posted on December 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Earlier this year at E3 Microsoft announced that both Killer Instinct and Gears of War: Ultimate would be making the jump from the Xbox One to Windows PC. Since then PC gamers have been waiting to find out when they can dig into these currently Xbox One exclusive titles.

One fan in particular, @brycethatoneguy on twitter, took to the social media platform to ask Xbox Boss Phil Spencer exactly when we can expect these games on Windows 10. Spencer’s response? They haven’t announced dates but both games are expected “won’t be too far into 2016”.

Here’s the full tweet from Phil Spencer, which you can use to trace back to the full conversation:

Are you excited for either Gears of War: Ultimate or Killer Instinct on Windows 10? There have been 3 DLC “seasons” of Killer Instinct that have brought a total of 22 combatants into the arena – 9 from Season 1, 9 from Season 2 and currently 4 from Season 3. Gears of War: Ultimate is of course a remastered version of the Xbox 360 2006 original with enhanced graphics and new content.

With gameplay that is reminiscent of Keiji Inafune’s former Capcom creation, long time platform veterans and those familiar with his other works should have no problem jumping right into protagonist Beck’s shoes.  This past August the project was delayed from a September 2015 release into February of next year for most versions of Mighty Number 9. Cyberpunk 2077 To Go Silent As Witcher III Becomes The Focus For The Next Year

Posted on December 9, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last week we brought you some news via a translated interview that CD Projekt’s ambitious role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077  was going to be even more ambitious than this year’s The Witcher III.  The game is in the news once again thanks to an interview the CEO of the CD Projekt RED gave to the Polish show Money.

It is not a surprise to anyone that The Witcher III has been an absolute success for the company – reaching sales of over 6 million units since the game’s launch this past May. It is so successful that the company’s CEO says that CD Projekt RED will focus on The Witcher brand for the next year.

Regarding their plans for The Witcher III Adam Kicinski said:

“This and the next year will be devoted to The Witcher. Apart from the second expansion we have some additional ideas. They should help us animate sales in 2016. The game is selling so well, that we are convinced there are still many people who will buy it if we promote it further.”

So where does this leave the ambitious Cyberpunk 2077, which the public hasn’t seen – aside from the off executive or producer quote – since the game’s initial reveal trailer?  In terms of marketing material and official demos we won’t be seeing things for quite some time. No doubt CD Projeckt RED has an entire internal team working hard on the game but it looks like they will be going radio silent until the game’s marketing machine is ready to rev-up to full speed.

Here’s exactly what Mr.Kicinski said about the company’s plans for Cyberpunk:

“We already have the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 planned, but we won’t announce it until we are ready to start the marketing campaign. At the moment we’re concentrating on The Witcher and don’t want to distract users from that product, which we are still monetizing.”

Cyberpunk 2077 was originally revealed back in January 2013 – in fact we covered the game’s initial reveal trailer over two years ago. The game will allow players to customize their own avatar for use in game and will have a heavy emphasis on non-linear choice driven story.
