Plants Vs Zombie Garden Warfare 2

Electronic Arts is set to release their sequel to 2014’s Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare tomorrow and I’m currently playing the game for review. While I won’t spoil most of the alterations, additions and returning content that Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare  has I thought it’d be a good idea to share some footage from the Xbox One version of the game.

The three videos below will give you a taste of the multiplayer battles from each side – Plans & Zombies – and footage taken from the single player’s first escort mission.

Look out for our final verdict on the game tomorrow morning when it hits retail!

Studio Head: Gears of War 4 Will Run At 60 FPS

Posted on February 21, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Upcoming Xbox One exclusive Gears of War 4 will run at 60 frames per second says The Coalition studio head, Rod Fergusson.  According to an article in the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine UK, Fergusson says that the dev team is aiming to duplicate the essence of older Gears titles, which should please long-time fans.

In regards to the framerate here is what he had to say:

“Delivering [with Ultimate Edition] the first 60fps multiplayer experience in franchise history really taught us a lot about what it means to have a 60fps culture on the team and we’re leveraging that experience for Gears of War 4.”

Last year’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was the first entry in the franchise to allow players to compete against each other at a full 60 FPS online. Other titles from last year – namely Halo 5 and Forza Motorsport 6 both ran at 60 FPS as well.

The first gameplay footage of Gears of War 4 debuted at E3 2015. You can view it below:

Rumor: Games With Gold For March 2016 Leaked

Posted on February 18, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like the Games With Gold for next month might have leaked out before the official announcement according to a post on gaming forum Neo Gaf. If the rumor is true then Xbox players can look forward to complementary copies of Sherlock Holmes: Crime & Punishment  and  Lords of the Fallen as long as they have an active Xbox Live subscription. Xbox 360 owners may receive Gearbox Software’s classic FPS Borderlands as well as the RTS title Supreme Commander 2.

Users in the original forum thread say that not only is the original Borderlands backwards compatible on Xbox One but also is all of the game’s DLC. We’ll see whenever Major Nelson makes the official announcement if Borderlands will include all of its’ add-ons.

Are you excited to try out the Dark Souls like Lords of the Fallen on Xbox One? Let us know!

Afternoon Livestream Recap: Titanfall

Posted on February 17, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sometimes a first person shooter is perfect for a lazy afternoon. You can sort of just turn off your brain and worry about not being shot in the back of the head. EA / Respawn’s Titanfall might not get a lot of play two years after its release but it is still a lot of fun.

This past afternoon I bolted myself into my mech and enjoyed a few rounds of Titanfall on Twitch.TV. Here’s a video recap of a couple matches – make note that I tend to die a lot.

Dark Souls III Gets A Season Pass

Posted on February 17, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bandai Namco will be adding an optional season pass to Dark Souls III upon release the publisher announced. Details on exactly what this pass will entitle players to is currently unknown as Bandai Namco’s press release did not contain any details other than the pass will continue in the tradition of Dark Souls’ Artorias of the Abyss and Dark Souls II’s The Lost Crown add-ons.  This season pass can be purchased either individual from the game or as part of a Digital Deluxe edition on all platforms.

The season pass on its own is priced at $27.99 CDN while the digital deluxe edition is priced at $94.48. Both prices are from the Canadian Steam storefront and pertain to the Windows PC version of Dark Souls III.

In addition to the announcement of future DLC, Bandai Namco will also be giving a free copy of the original Dark Souls to anyone who pre-orders the game on Xbox One. Currently, the original version of Dark Souls is only playable on Xbox 360 but will be added to Xbox One through backwards compatibility in the future.

Here is Namco Bandai’s full press release:

Today BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe announced their exclusive digital pre-order programme with Xbox for DARK SOULS III. For a limited time, gamers who digitally pre-order DARK SOULS III on the Xbox One Store will receive the original DARK SOULS; playable now on Xbox 360, or on Xbox One later via Backward Compatibility. The code for DARK SOULS will be delivered to their Xbox message center in 7-10 days.

Additionally, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe also announced a Season Pass programme for DARK SOULS III. “Artorias of the Abyss” (DARK SOULS) and the “The Lost Crowns” (DARK SOULS II) were known for expanding the experience of DARK SOULS in a meaningful way and the season pass for DARK SOULS III will carry on this tradition by supporting the game with exciting new content after launch. The season pass will be available on all platforms along with a digital Deluxe Edition: which includes the main game, season pass, dynamic theme and official soundtrack. Further details will be revealed over the next few months.

Square Enix Reminds Us About The Hitman Beta With New Trailer

Posted on February 3, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Do you realize that Square Enix’s episodic version of Hitman is only about a month and a half out from release? To remind us all that not only is the full game coming out on March 11th for Xbox One, PC and PlayStation but those who pre-purchase the game can gain access to a limited beta version on February 12th on PS4 and February 19th on Windows PC. Sorry Xbox One owners it looks like you won’t be getting a beta version of Hitman.

Hitman (2016) serves as a prequel to the existing entries in the franchise. Like other versions of Hitman this game will allow players to approach their missions in a variety of ways, although the series is well known for allowing Agent 47 disguise himself and carry out assassinations covertly without being detected.  This version of Hitman will also feature open-world gameplay similar to 2006’s Hitman: Bloody Money instead of the linear mission structure of the older PS2 Hitman titles and 2012’s Hitman: Absolution.

When the game was announced at E3 2015 Square Enix promoted the game with an “intro pack” that would consist of three locations, six story missions and several sandbox missions.  Last month it was revealed that the game would follow an episodic format instead – with the intro pack containing a prologue mission and the Paris open world map only. New locations like Thailand, The United States, Japan and Marrekesh will be released starting in April. Along with the new location these $10 episode packs will also include brand new story missions and assassination targets.

There will be six PlayStation exclusive contracts for Agent 47 to take. The PlayStation Blog summarized one of them as:

“The first PS4 exclusive contract will be available when the game launches on March 11th. We’re calling it “The Director.” Your target is Scott Sarno, Director of European Operations for the CICADA private military corporation. He is a thirty-year veteran of clandestine operations and has been linked to a number of questionable operations in Europe and the Middle East as far back as the mid-nineties. He is highly trained and incredibly observant, you should expect him to be accompanied by several CICADA agents at all times.”

All of this this means that the price for entry will be quite a lot lower than the initial $30 that was expected – you can pre order the Hitman: Intro Pack for $15 USD on PlayStation 4 or the full package for $60 USD and either way guarantee yourself access to the beta.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Satirizes The Film’s Trailer

Posted on February 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

How do you spoof the trailer for one of the highest grossing films of all time? Excellent lighting? A colorful script ripe with satire? How about building your cast entirely out of Lego people? Travelers Tales returns to A Galaxy Far Far Away with Lego Star Wats: The Force Awakens for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

The game promises to allow players to experience the story of The Force Awakens through the unique lens of Lego combined with the humor that Travelers Tales have provided in previous Lego Star Wars entries.

No word on a price point or whether or not the game will be released on competing consoles. The Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions have been dated for June 28, 2016 as per the recently released reveal trailer.

Rainbow Six: Siege Operation Black Ice Released With New Trailer

Posted on February 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Rainbow Six: Siege

Ubisoft have released a brand new in-game trailer to celebrate the release of Operation Black Ice, the first major expansion to last December’s Rainbow Six: Siege. Along with the new trailer they also updated their official site to outline all of the content that is about to go live in Operation Black Ice.

Here is just a brief rundown of some of the additions:

  • Brand new map that takes place in Artic Canada – Yacht
  • Two new operators from the JTF2 (Joint Task Force) – Buck and Frost
  • Spectator mode available on game modes.
  • New Weapon Skins
  • Various balance changes to existing content

It is pretty cool to see Canadian special forces represented in the game, complete with our own map! Trust me – even if parts of our country get really cold in the winter, our whole country isn’t some tundra arctic wasteland. Watch the video in the embedded player below or head on over to the official Operation Black Ice website for a list of all the changes.

Ubisoft Takes Us Through Basic Training For The Division

Posted on January 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Division

Ubisoft takes us through a very brief tour of some of the basics that you’ll need to survive the infected streets of Manhatten in The Division’s beta. This narrated trailer covers how to create your agent, what the various functions available to you in your base of operations, how to sell loot to venders and, of course, how to group up with other agents in the field.

The Division feels very much like an MMORPG but designed on a smaller scale. By grounding the game in a real world location Ubisoft have provided potential agents with a setting that feels not too far off from our own world, minus the whole lawlessness and viral contagions thing. It is clear that while the gameplay appears to be action packed there is al an emphasis on statistics – like health, damage per second, damage reduction – that can be found in other roleplaying games. Fusing MMORPG elements with First Person Shooters worked fantastically for Bungie’s Destiny, so let’s see if the same can be said for The Division.

The beta kicks off this morning on Xbox One and will open on Friday at 7 AM EST on Windows PC and PlayStation 4 and runs until an unspecified time Sunday January 31st. Ubisoft’s last open beta, for Rainbow Six Siege, ended up getting extended after server issues caused problems. If the hype around The Division is any indication perhaps the same thing will happen here?

We have staff in the closed beta and we will be brining you as much content as possible over the coming days.

Hard Reset Redux Reboots On Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC

Posted on January 27, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Hard Reset

Flying Wild Hog, probably best known for their reboot of the Shadow Warrior franchise, is preparing to rebalance and upgrade their 2012 first person shooter Hard Reset for current generation consoles and a second go at Windows PC due out later this year.

Specific enhancements include graphical upgrades, new enemies, weapons and a glowing cyber katana that looks like it was ripped out of the pages of an indie comic book. Who wouldn’t want to hack apart enemies with a glowing instrument of death?

No price has been announced for Hard Reset Redux as of yet. You can check out the trailer in the embedded player below. Hard Reset was actually one of the first games we reviewed on our site many years ago.
