Next Xbox Reveal Due May 21st, 2013

Posted on April 24, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Rumors and anticipation of Microsoft’s next home console will wither to a halt on May 21st. This was confirmed today by Microsoft stating ‘A New Generation Revealed’ on Tuesday, May 21st at 1pm ET/10am PT/6pm GMT. The conference will stream on  Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE and on Spike TV for people in US and Canada.

I’m extremely excited, eager, and not so much concerned as I am intrigued to see what Microsoft has been cooking up for us. I like how they decided to not play games with Sony (who as you know took initiative to reveal first…without showing off the actual box) and are revealing the new console on their own terms despite fanboy criticisms of lack of information for the new Xbox.

Hopefully all of these rumors of “always online” and “no second-hand games” will be addressed. I personally don’t think it will be always online, I think they will allow the option for people who don’t have a decent connection to still play games. I’m pretty sure there won’t be a ban on used games either, but the question is if they are going to find a way around it to still make money off used game sales…We will see.

The next generation starts when Microsoft says it does, and that will be on May 21st. Stay tuned!

Next Xbox Runs Multiple Games At Once, Requires Kinect

Posted on February 12, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The race towards the next-generation is heating up, and whether or not Sony or Microsoft will acknowledge it, gamers will get their first tastes of their next home consoles in just a few short weeks with Sony’s “see the future” press event in New York City. Out of Kotaku comes a huge expose exploring some of the options developers are playing with in regards to the Xbox 720/ Xbox Durango (henceforth referred to as simply ‘Durango’).

We already knew a ton about the innards of the machine, powered by a custom AMD APU, but we didn’t really know about mandatory game installations, forced Kinect connectivity, a tweaked controller and the ability to run multiple games at once. If even 50% of these new ‘facts’ are true things are going to be mighty interesting come this fall.Read More

Is the Next Xbox Anti-Consumer?

Posted on February 7, 2013 by Joshua Rust

It’s not often that I like to express myself on rumors; with that being said, this one has floated around for a while: the elimination of used games. Now before you go grabbing your pitchforks and go on a witch hunt (keep them at arms reach though), this has not been confirmed by either Sony or Microsoft that it’s true.Read More

Rumor Has It The Next Xbox Will Have Always On DRM

Posted on February 6, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Rumor has it that Microsoft will require a constant connection in order to use their next generation gaming console. Internet connections are almost ubiquitous now-a-days, as we live in an age where you can browse your favorite websites and play online multiplayer games at broadband speed through your phone. If these rumors are accurate then Microsoft will be taking an aggressive stance against not only piracy, but second hand games sales with the constant connection requirement in the Xbox Durango.

Edge Online brings us these latest tidbits about Redmond’s yet unannounced console. Some of this stuff we’ already knew or assumed – like the existence of a Blu-Ray drive in the console or the fact that the system will be a multi-core processor clocked at 1.6GHZ, designed by AMD. Also as speculated, the console will ship with a second generation Kinect Sensor. With rival Sony poised to fire the first shot in the next-generation race, tech specs and reports seem to be leaking from both companies at a brisk pace.Read More

Xbox Durango Production Diagrams Supposedly Leak Online

Posted on January 22, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

The rumored Xbox Durangomay have gotten its innards spilled with the supposed leak of an internal planning diagram of the console’s architecture. Not only does the document give us a look under the hood of Microsoft’s next generation console, revealing several secrets, but this latest leak jives with the rumor that Redmond has begun test fabrication of the system’s innards.

Contained within the next Xbox will be a quadcore processor  based on AMD’s 1.6GHZ APU technology, 8GBs of DDR3 ram, an 800 MHZ graphics processor, support for N Networking, a Blu Ray Drive (although it is unknown if it will play movies) and  an HDMI 1.4 port capable of outputting a maximum of 4K resolution.

That sure is a lot of technical jargon but it suggests that the next Xbox will be future proofed in order to provide developers with ample room to create games before hitting technological ceilings. For reference the Xbox 360 only has 512MB of ram and that console has produced some of the best looking games of the last year.  The 360 only started to hit technical limitations after five years or so, the Durango’s specs could rival current mid-range gaming desktops!

Posted on January 15, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

We’ve been hearing about the next generation of consoles for years now, from leaked development kits to vague statements from executives we’ve got everything but an official confirmation. This may all change according to Game Informer, whose source claims that the next machines from Microsoft and Sony may be officially announced as early as this coming March.
