Call of Duty: Blacks Op III Multiplayer Starter Pack Free This Weekend

Posted on February 27, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Black Ops III

Activision Publishing has provided its’ recently released Black Ops III Multiplayer Starter Pack for free on Steam this weekend. The Multiplayer Starter Pack includes the complete Black Ops III multiplayer experience up to level 55. While it includes all of the operator / weapon / perk unlocks included up until that level it does not include the ability to prestige or access Custom Games or the popular Zombies mode.

Alongside the free weekend of Blacks Ops III multiplayer time Activision is also providing players with double XP for the entire weekend as a nice little leveling bonus.

The Starter Edition will only be available until the end of this month and currently costs $18.99 CDN. To be honest I think this is a great way for casual COD fans like myself to enjoy the core multiplayer experience while it is still quite popular without making a full $90 CDN investment. To be honest I never really play the Zombies mode and add-on DLCs are usually hit or miss with me. The Starter Edition is also compatible with any upcoming DLC.

Here’s the full announcement from the Blacks Ops III Steam Community:

The Multiplayer Starter Pack is free to try from 10AM PST on Thursday, 2/25 to 1PM PST on Sunday, 2/28.

Pick up the full game on sale this weekend also, including a 33% discount on the Black Ops 3 standard edition and 20% off the Digital Deluxe edition. Those that already own the Multiplayer Starter Pack can also upgrade to the full game at a discount. Sale ends Monday 2/28 at 10AM PST.

On top of all this, Double XP starts tomorrow, Friday, 2/26 at 10AM PST and ends Monday, 2/29 at 10AM PST.

With the Multiplayer Starter Pack you can try out Black Ops 3’s online multiplayer as well as ranked Arena play, Gunsmith, Weapon Paint Shop, Freerun, Theater tools, and the Black Market. Upgrade to the full version of the game to gain access to:

  • Zombies game mode
  • Campaign game mode
  • Ability to play in Multiplayer custom games
  • Ability to Prestige (your level will be capped at 55 in the Starter Pack)
  • Access to mod tools or modded content (once released)
  • Access to unranked server browser (once released)
  • Ability to Fresh Start your profile
  • The ability to access Dead Ops Arcade II and Nightmares mode

Report: Rise of the Tomb Raider PC Sales Beat Xbox One Threefold

Posted on February 25, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Superdata -a research group that tracks and analyzes digital sales numbers across almost all platforms – have announced that sales of Square Enix’s Rise of the Tomb Raider on Windows PC were almost triple those of the Xbox One version during it’s first month on both platforms.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was an Xbox One exclusive when it launched this past November. The Windows PC version launched last month on the Windows Store and Steam. Rise of the Tomb Raider is the direct sequel to 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot.

Here’s the original quote from Superdata:

“The newly-released PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider surprises at release. As one of Square Enix’s most visible franchises, the Tomb Raider franchise performed in January, receiving both strong industry recognition and benefitting from a seasonal lull of triple A games. Initial sales numbers on digital console for Rise of the Tomb Raider were soft, due to sharing its release date with Fallout 4 and its exclusivity to Xbox One. The game sold almost three times as many units on PC than it did on console during its first month.”

Posted on February 23, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fans of EA/DICE’s multiplayer centric shooter set in A Galaxy Far Far Away will be happy to learn that the pair has revealed the official patch notes for the upcoming February content drop.  As previously announced a brand new map will become available when this patch drops – Twilight on Hoth  which supports a whole bunch of modes including – Walker Assault, Supremacy, Turning Point, Blaster, Fighter Squadron, Drop Zone and Heroes & Villains. A new survival map also set on Hoth – “Ice Caverns” – will also be made available for the single player wave survival mode.

In terms of other smaller but impactful changes: Primary weapons will now do 10% more damage against vehicles. The ION torpedo has had its speed increased by 30 meters per second while using the Pulse Rifle players will suffer a 30% movement decrease and finally the pre-lobby countdown timer has been decreased from 30 seconds to 20 seconds.

There’s a whole bunch of other stuff in the official patch notes which you can read after the jump. Here’s hoping that Twilight on Hoth lives up on the original Walker Assault map that shipped with the game.  Read More

Dark Souls III Gets A Season Pass

Posted on February 17, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bandai Namco will be adding an optional season pass to Dark Souls III upon release the publisher announced. Details on exactly what this pass will entitle players to is currently unknown as Bandai Namco’s press release did not contain any details other than the pass will continue in the tradition of Dark Souls’ Artorias of the Abyss and Dark Souls II’s The Lost Crown add-ons.  This season pass can be purchased either individual from the game or as part of a Digital Deluxe edition on all platforms.

The season pass on its own is priced at $27.99 CDN while the digital deluxe edition is priced at $94.48. Both prices are from the Canadian Steam storefront and pertain to the Windows PC version of Dark Souls III.

In addition to the announcement of future DLC, Bandai Namco will also be giving a free copy of the original Dark Souls to anyone who pre-orders the game on Xbox One. Currently, the original version of Dark Souls is only playable on Xbox 360 but will be added to Xbox One through backwards compatibility in the future.

Here is Namco Bandai’s full press release:

Today BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe announced their exclusive digital pre-order programme with Xbox for DARK SOULS III. For a limited time, gamers who digitally pre-order DARK SOULS III on the Xbox One Store will receive the original DARK SOULS; playable now on Xbox 360, or on Xbox One later via Backward Compatibility. The code for DARK SOULS will be delivered to their Xbox message center in 7-10 days.

Additionally, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Europe also announced a Season Pass programme for DARK SOULS III. “Artorias of the Abyss” (DARK SOULS) and the “The Lost Crowns” (DARK SOULS II) were known for expanding the experience of DARK SOULS in a meaningful way and the season pass for DARK SOULS III will carry on this tradition by supporting the game with exciting new content after launch. The season pass will be available on all platforms along with a digital Deluxe Edition: which includes the main game, season pass, dynamic theme and official soundtrack. Further details will be revealed over the next few months.

Capcom Releases Street Fighter V DLC Roadmap To Fans

Posted on February 12, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom Releases Street Fighter V DLC Roadmap To Fans

The long running Street Fighter franchise gets turned on its head with the release of Street Fighter V next week.  Sure gameplay additions like V-Triggers and V-Skills are going to force long time fighters to adapt to a new flow in combat but there’s something even more dramatic coming in the following months.

Instead of releasing Street Fighter V: SUPER ULTRA MEGA EDITION 2016 Capcom will roll out new characters on a monthly basis after the game’s release this Tuesday. Players will have the choice of either spending real world cash for each additional fighter or by using ‘fight money’ which they accumulate by completing single player content & playing online with others.

Not only has Capcom now outline it’s roadmap for future character releases for the next several months they’ve also said that players will able to buy the first additional character, Alex, with the fight money accumulated with just the on-disc story content.

Here’s the quote and roadmap as per the Capcom-Unity blog:

Some of you may have heard the news that Alex will be available to all Street Fighter V players in March 2016 as well, and I’m happy to re-confirm that news here. At launch, playing through most of the single player content (in fact, just the Character Stories) will give you enough Fight Money to get Alex for free! We’ll have more information to share on Alex and the other post launch characters soon, so stay tuned.

Learn About Ken Masters In This SFV Character Introduction Trailer

Posted on February 4, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom has released the first character introduction video for their upcoming Street Fighter V. This two-minute long video will give viewers a crash course about some of the changes coming to series staple Ken Masters.

Ken isn’t just about spamming hadukens or being a slight pallet swap for Ryu anymore. Thanks to the introduction of new mechanics like V-Skills Ken finally has quite a few differences from his long time rival that help set him apart. His V-trigger provides him with an extension on all of his combos and gives him a slight damage boost while active and his V-Skill allows Ken to run forward charging at his opponent for a short time.

Make sure you watch all the way to the end to hear Capcom Fighting community manager Matt Edwards give some helpful split second advice that could give Ken players the upperhand.

Street Fighter V will be released on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in just 12 days – Feb 16th.

Rainbow Six: Siege Operation Black Ice Released With New Trailer

Posted on February 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Rainbow Six: Siege

Ubisoft have released a brand new in-game trailer to celebrate the release of Operation Black Ice, the first major expansion to last December’s Rainbow Six: Siege. Along with the new trailer they also updated their official site to outline all of the content that is about to go live in Operation Black Ice.

Here is just a brief rundown of some of the additions:

  • Brand new map that takes place in Artic Canada – Yacht
  • Two new operators from the JTF2 (Joint Task Force) – Buck and Frost
  • Spectator mode available on game modes.
  • New Weapon Skins
  • Various balance changes to existing content

It is pretty cool to see Canadian special forces represented in the game, complete with our own map! Trust me – even if parts of our country get really cold in the winter, our whole country isn’t some tundra arctic wasteland. Watch the video in the embedded player below or head on over to the official Operation Black Ice website for a list of all the changes.

Ubisoft Takes Us Through Basic Training For The Division

Posted on January 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Division

Ubisoft takes us through a very brief tour of some of the basics that you’ll need to survive the infected streets of Manhatten in The Division’s beta. This narrated trailer covers how to create your agent, what the various functions available to you in your base of operations, how to sell loot to venders and, of course, how to group up with other agents in the field.

The Division feels very much like an MMORPG but designed on a smaller scale. By grounding the game in a real world location Ubisoft have provided potential agents with a setting that feels not too far off from our own world, minus the whole lawlessness and viral contagions thing. It is clear that while the gameplay appears to be action packed there is al an emphasis on statistics – like health, damage per second, damage reduction – that can be found in other roleplaying games. Fusing MMORPG elements with First Person Shooters worked fantastically for Bungie’s Destiny, so let’s see if the same can be said for The Division.

The beta kicks off this morning on Xbox One and will open on Friday at 7 AM EST on Windows PC and PlayStation 4 and runs until an unspecified time Sunday January 31st. Ubisoft’s last open beta, for Rainbow Six Siege, ended up getting extended after server issues caused problems. If the hype around The Division is any indication perhaps the same thing will happen here?

We have staff in the closed beta and we will be brining you as much content as possible over the coming days.

Halo Online Gameplay Vid: Team Slayer On Narrows

Posted on January 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Halo Narrows

You might be wondering “why another Halo Online video?”. Well we’ve been trying to bring you a mixture of original content based upon the games we are currently playing and breaking news as it happens. This week I’ve been playing quite a bit of Halo: Online after producing a video earlier in the week. I thought I’d share this match because it features one of the classic Halo 3 maps that didn’t make it into our other coverage. Also this video has better synced sound, and music, something our original gameplay snippets seemed to have some problems with (sorry about that).

Hard Reset Redux Reboots On Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC

Posted on January 27, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Hard Reset

Flying Wild Hog, probably best known for their reboot of the Shadow Warrior franchise, is preparing to rebalance and upgrade their 2012 first person shooter Hard Reset for current generation consoles and a second go at Windows PC due out later this year.

Specific enhancements include graphical upgrades, new enemies, weapons and a glowing cyber katana that looks like it was ripped out of the pages of an indie comic book. Who wouldn’t want to hack apart enemies with a glowing instrument of death?

No price has been announced for Hard Reset Redux as of yet. You can check out the trailer in the embedded player below. Hard Reset was actually one of the first games we reviewed on our site many years ago.

God Eater 2: Rage Burst & God Eater: Resurrection Confirmed for NA In New Trailer

Posted on December 21, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

A brand new title in the God Eater franchise – God Eater 2: Rage Burst – alongside an enhanced remake of the original have been announced for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Windows PC to be published by the folks at Bandai Namco Games.

In a brief announcement trailer we see cuts of garbled, possibly corrupted text, interspersed with anime cut scenes that tell a quite confusing tale about some type of infection that has ravaged the world.

The God Eater franchise is an action role-playing franchise that sees the player take the role of an unemployed warrior who decides to take on larger than life creatures. Originally debuting on the PlayStation Portable in Japan in 2010 an enhanced port of the original God Eater made its way to North American PSPs in 2011.

What do you think of this announcement? Let us know in the comments or watch the reveal trailer below.
