Original Dead Rising Heading To PC / PS4 / Xbox, Off The Record To PS4 + Xbox One

Posted on July 18, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dead Rising 1

Great news for photo journalists who happen to have a knack for taking selfies with the undead, Capcom has announced that the original Dead Rising will be slashing its way onto Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. Alongside the release of the original Capcom will also bring Dead Rising 2 and it’s spin-off Dead Rising 2: Off The Record to PS4 and Xbox One as well.

Here is a brief statement that Capcom issued to Eurogamer about the upcoming ports:

“Capcom will be bringing Dead Rising to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In addition, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will make their way onto Xbox One and PS4. We will have more news to share soon.”

All of these announcements were made ahead of the upcoming Christmas release for Dead Rising 4, which for a full year will be an Xbox One + Windows 10 exclusive following its release. We got the chance to check out over six minutes of extended gameplay at E3 with a developer walkthrough. If you want to see what we saw, head on over to our video preview from last month.

The original Dead Rising was released for the Xbox 360 in the summer of 2006 and pretty much stayed an exclusive on that platform save for a down-scaled motion controlled port released for the Wii in February 2009.

dead_rising_3_game-wide

Dead Rising 2 marked a shift in development from an in-house Japanese Capcom team to the Vancouver, BC based Capcom Vancouver (formally Blue Castle Games) in 2010. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record a retelling of the events of Dead Rising 2 but staring Frank West from the original title was released a year later on PS3/360 and PC. Dead Rising 3 was an Xbox One / PC exclusive and never made the jump to the PlayStation 4.

It sounds like Capcom has some big plans for its undead series in 2016. Speaking of the undead, this year also marked the release of several ports of Resident Evil games on Xbox One and PS4 a head of the surprise reveal of Resident Evil 7.

E3 2016: Tekken 7 Xbox One Preview

Posted on June 19, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

As a fan of Bandai Namco’s Tekken series since the launch of the 3rd game back on the original PlayStation, I’ve followed the series through four numbered installments, several spin-offs, numerous guest characters and three console transitions. Somehow, against all odds, Namco has been able to maintain the series’ identity of wacky interconnected storylines, multiple unlockable endings, deep strategic fighting and of course the Mishima Zaibotsu.

Bandai Namco announced that Tekken 7 would be coming to home consoles on Microsoft’s Xbox One console along with another hidden surprise – the inclusion of Street Fighter‘s often secret combatant, Akuma!  Behind closed doors at Namco’s small private booth at E3 the home console version of Tekken 7 was playable on the Xbox One and I got the chance to watch several matches.

Akuma as well as one of the PC/Console exclusive stages – Abandoned Temple – were on display in the build that the developers were showing off at E3. If you’ve played Akuma in other Street Fighter titles then some of his familiar strategies also apply to Tekken 7. Akuma’s tatsumaki forward whirlwind kick is featured as one of his standard moves in T7. He also has access to a focus meter, which works similar to the one found in Street Fighter IV, and builds over time allowing him to land a slowed down but devastating blow to his opponent. In the version of Tekken 7 on display the Focus Attack meter replaced the traditional Rage Meter when Akuma was selected. Another popular strategy that Akuma players relied on at E3 was one particular move combination that had him perform an upwards low kick before transitioning into a downward punch at the ark of a jump.

The Xbox One version of Tekken 7 is expected to include all of the additional content that is going to be found in the Tekken 7: Fated Retribution update which is due out in Japanese arcades next month.  This arcade upgrade includes 28 characters (including bosses) – returning favorites like Jin, King and Steve Fox join newcomers like the Saudi Arabian born Shaheen and the Otaku-like cat girl Lucky Chloe.  In terms of stages Fated Retribution (and presumably the console port) will include 10 stages at launch including  Artic Snowfall, Devil’s Pit, Forgotten Realm, Mishima Dojo as well as the PC/Console exclusive Abandoned Temple and Mashima Building.

Tekken 7 is expected to be released for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs sometime in the first quarter of 2017.

Gears of War Slices Its Way Onto Xbox One This Fall

Posted on June 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Coliation showed off the world premiere demo for Gears of War 4 at the Microsoft E3 briefing in Los Angeles. Fans of the series will be right at home with the return of the series trademark behind cover gameplay, with some new additions of course – we saw one weapon in particular that looked to be straight out of Unreal Tournament, similar to the ripper it launched devastating blade projectiles at the enemy,

A female protagonist is front and center in this demonstration – from what we know of her story-line she will be attempting to find her mother. The trailer ends with her facing the camera and promising that she will “Burn their fucking hives to the ground”.

Gears of War 4 will be out this Fall for Xbox One & Windows 10 PC.

Dead Rising 4 Leaks Ahead of Official Unveiling Next Week

Posted on June 7, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like the cat is out of the bag for one of Capcom’s big reveals at Microsoft’s E3 press briefing. The infected shall rise again, facing off against longtime Zombie slayer Frank West in a Xbox One / Windows Store exclusive Dead Rising 4 according to leaked screenshots and promotional material that appeared online yesterday.

Despite its’ title Dead Rising 4 will reportedly be a reboot/alternate telling of the Willamette Incident that introduced us to the world of Phenotrans, Zombrex and those pesky wasps that cause necrotic flesh to come back to life. Reportedly the game will also shift the time period of the Willamette Incident from late Summer to Christmas time. Unlike the other games in the franchise, DR4 will run on Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, ditching the proprietary engine that has powered the series since Capcom Vancouver’s Dead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 4 is expected to be revealed next week and now confirmed information has been released just yet. Check out te quite convincing leaked assets below:

Mod ‘The Center’ Officially Jones ARK: Survival Evolved On Xbox / PC

Posted on May 18, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

As announced at PAX East last month, popular ARK: Survival Evolved mod The Center has made its way into the official version of the game for both Windows PC and Xbox One. The Center is a user created mod map set in a Tolkien-esque fantasy map providing players with 70 square kilometers of explorable terrain, all of which was developed by hand. The Center has its own save data which remains separate from save files created on ARK’s default map.

Alongside the release of The Center Studio Wildcard also released a new update for the Xbox One version of the game which brings it up to date with v240 of the PC game (originally released in January 2016). New features now available in the Xbox One build include a 100 player limit cap for servers, the broodmother area and various bug fixes.

Here is a brief set of patch-notes for the Xbox One version, released by Studio Wildcard:

  • Fixed memory/crash issues, massively reduced game memory overhead
  • Improved rendering performance by approximately 10%
  • Fixed the huge stall/lock/crash when you “Transfer” a bunch of items at once
  • Spawn-In First Person Animations are now playing properly once again
  • ADDED The Center Official Mod Map! Doubles the playable game area of ARK, with all new adventures – added Official The Center servers supporting up to 100 simultaneous players!
  • Added all content up thru PC patch v240 (includes such things as Broodmother Arena, Megapithecus Arena, Direbear, Manta, Chem Table, Prim Cannon, Lystrosaurus, Arthropluera, Sabertooth Salmon, Primitive Bola, Tribe Rank Management, and more!)

Speaking about The Center coming to Xbox One Jeremy Stieglitz – co-founder of Studio Wildcard had this say:

“The ARK modders are developing a ton of fun, creative content that, up until now, only the PC community has been able to enjoy. By selecting the most innovative high-quality mods and adding them into the main game, we’re able to make this amazing content available to console players as well.”

If you haven’t joined the hunt with ARK: Survival Evolved it is currently on sale on Steam for 33% off. The Xbox One version is available at a discount as well – 25% off for Gold Members and 15% off for Silver. You can also try a different take on the ARK formula with the free to play ARK: Survival of the Fittest on Steam.

Posted on April 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

ChinsawAwesome’s 8 player indie brawler Knight Squad had their own booth at PAX East and we were able to get a guided tour of the mayhem filled multiplayer title from one of the developers. Players take to the arena was one of several colored Knights with the objective of capturing a chalice placed within the arena.  Just don’t think it will be easy to capture because every player has access to different power-ups and ability pick-ups placed throughout the map!

Last man standing style death match isn’t the only activity isn’t Knight Squad’s only mode – players can also test the strength of their friendships with Medieval Soccer, Capture the Flag, Capture the Grail and more. Knight Squad also supports up to 8 players for chaotic evil online times!

Croixleur Sigma Video And Impressions

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

During PAX East Fionna and I had a chance to check out Croixleur Sigma on the show floor at the indie megabooth. This stylized anime infused action game includes a number of different modes and during the show I got the chance to play a few solid minutes while talking with some of the developer’s PR reps.

From what I played the survival mode has your character facing off against waves of enemies, stringing along combos builds your character’s score and is the key to making progress in the survival mode. Each face button on the PlayStation four controller corresponds with a different weapon that I was able to assign prior to the beginning of survival mode.

The steam version was released in 2014 and features 2 playable characters, 5 game modes and twenty different weapons. More information on the Windows PC version is available here.

Croixleur Sigma is available for PlayStation on the PlayStation Network. We’ll hopefully have more on this game in the coming weeks.

Brand New Overwatch Short ‘Alive’ Debuts

Posted on April 3, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Overwatch Alive Short

Blizzard’s marketing blitz for their upcoming team shooter Overwatch with the release of a brand new 6 minute self contained animated short. This time things focus on the French assassin Widowmaker, as she moves in for the kill on a VIP in Kings Row. It’s really cool to see Blizzard using the in-game levels as the setting for their animated shorts. Does Widowmaker get the kill? You’ll have to keep watching until the end to find out!

This short’s narration opens with the chilling “When I was little I had a fear of spiders…”, just how do the arachnids factor into Widowmaker’s character development?

Overwatch’s last animated short, , was an Xbox exclusive so it was only fitting that “Alive” debuted on PlayStation’s official YouTube channel.

Overwatch will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC on May 29th and has an open beta earlier in May.

ARK: Survival of the Fittest, New Free To Play Game, Out Now

Posted on March 16, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ark: Survival Evolved

Quickly played action-oriented survival games appear to be all the rage lately, with some of the bigger titles like H1Z1 splitting their offerings into multiple games. It should come as no surprise then that ARK: Survival Evolved would join in on the fun.

Titled Ark: Survival of the Fittest, this new stand-alone ‘multiplayer online survival arena’ (MOSA???) allows players to literally drop into the world of ARK and rush to supply rich locations before their opponents do. Survival of the Fittest offers a number of different play-styles: there’s the traditional free-for-all battle royale and 2/4/6 player team competition. If the title of the game sounds familiar that is because we covered the massive e-sports tournament that launched last year featuring the Survival of the Fittest game mode.Read More

Cross-Platform Gameplay Is Finally A Reality On Xbox One, PS4/Xbox Cross-Play A Possibility

Posted on March 15, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Xbox One

Yesterday at GDC 2016 Microsoft announced that Xbox One players will finally be able to play online with their friends on other platforms starting this year. Developers will be able to bridge the platform gap between Windows 10 and Xbox One and the first game to support this new functionality is none other than last years’ surprise hit Rocket League.

Potentially the most shocking news is that Microsoft appears open to allowing players on longtime rival Sony’s PlayStation Network to play against one another at some point in the future. In the official blog post on the Xbox.com News Wire, Chris Charles the Director of ID @ Xbox, described the possibility of cross-console online gameplay as an “open invitation”.

Here’s his full section regarding the possibility of cross-platform play:

Cross-Network Play
First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.
Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.

Rocket League launched on PlayStation 4 in July of 2015, the Xbox One version went live last month on February 17th. The game across all three platforms (PS4, Xbox One, Windows PC) has sold over 4 million units and earned developer Psyonix over $70 million.
