Nintendo Announces a Second Beta For Splatoon

Posted on May 20, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo of America has confirmed that they will hold a second Global Test Fire for their colorful upcoming third person shooter Splatoon. If you already have the Global Test Fire Demo installed on your Wii U you should be good to go, otherwise make sure to grab it before the one hour stress test on May 23rd between 3pm – 4pm (Pacific Time).

Splatoon was announced during E3 2014. It is a third person action title for the Wii U where players take the role of adolescent Squids who can transform into humanoid shape. Instead of focusing on the kill/death ratio that other shooters rely on, the Turf War multiplayer mode in Splatoon are all about the amount of ground your team is able to cover with colorful ink.

Splatoon’s full version will be available on May 29th for $69.99 USD.

Nintendo 64 Games Launching On The Wii U E-Shop

Posted on April 2, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Nintendo 64 didn’t get as much love as other classic Nintendo consoles in terms of Virtual Console in the 7th generation but hopefully the second time around is a bit better with the announcement of N64 games for the Wii U Virtual Console.

Announced for the VC were Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64. The former is available right now on the North American E-shop while DK64 is expected to launch sometime in the near future. Prices for N64 titles range from $6.99 to $9.99 USD.

Super Mario 64 launched on June 23rd 1996 and was released on the Nintendo DS in 2004. Donkey Kong 64 was released on November 24th 1999 and has yet to see a re-release on modern Nintendo consoles. Could this mean that other Rare greats like Perfect Dark or Jet Force Gemini could be re-released on the Wii U?

Nintendo of America announced that Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS has already sold 1.2 million units in the United States. This figure contains both digital and physical copies, in fact Smash is the best selling hand-held title so far in 2014. These fantastic sales figures put it at number 9 in the all time rankings of US 3DS title sales.

The full list of top selling 3DS titles include:

Mario Kart 7
Super Mario 3D Land
New Super Mario Bros 2
Pokemon X  / Pokemon Y
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Super Smash Bros for 3DS

If you haven’t checked out Super Smash Bros yet, now is probably the best time to grab the fantastic 3DS rendition of this long running fighting series.  With the WiiU version coming out this coming Friday, November 21st, there’s only six days to get some practice in. There are a lot of reasons why we gave SSB on 3DS a perfect ten in our review.

Downloadable DS Games Coming To Wii U?

Posted on January 30, 2014 by Les Major

Anyone who has played the Wii U might have thought of this at some point. You’re looking at the controller in your hand, then up to the TV, then you ponder what it would be like if you could play your favorite DS games on the home console. Surprisingly enough, it sounds like Nintendo is planning to do just that by releasing DS games on the Wii U eShop! This of course is big news considering the unfortunately bad year Nintendo has experienced recently. Why?Read More

Nintendo Shipped 1.95 Million Wii U Consoles Last Quarter

Posted on January 29, 2014 by Rae Michelle Richards

It hasn’t been a particularly cheery time for Nintendo Japan as the Wii U is failing to meet projections and with the company’s profits expected to fall short next quarter; these certainly aren’t the money printing heydays of the original Wii back in 2007. While we won’t speculate about where Nintendo is heading, because frankly everyone has their own opinion and mine is probably way off, we can report back some of the numbers that recently came to light.

Nintendo had expected to ship 9 million Wii U units by the end of their fiscal year in March. Their latest projections state that they now see themselves moving 2.8 million consoles – with 1.96 of them moving during the Christmas season that just past. In the end this will cost the company a projected loss of 25 billion yen ($242 million) ending March 2014. That’s a lot of numbers to go through but at the end of the day it means that Nintendo is losing money despite the strong sales and critical acclaim for their most recent 3DS titles.

The console manufacturer has tried to drum up support for its latest home console with a small price cut, the release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and third party titles like The Wonderful 101 last fall. 3DS also saw a number of high profile releases over the course of the last year including Pokemon X & Y, Fire Emblem and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

UnEpic Released Today On Wii U eShop

Posted on January 16, 2014 by Les Major

Released today on the Wii U eShop, this game is an indie gem worth checking out. The latest I’ve been enjoying is UnEpic, a quest that features a tabletop gaming fan being transported into a far away dark castle. RPG know how and clever wit come into play as you advance with your modern day hero. It’s an enjoyable story that plays out in a web comic sort of feel since you occasionally have conversations with a shadow being that fails to possess your characters body and gets stuck within him. The exchanges between the two are quite fun and keep a comical tone to your journey. Read on for more, as well as the games trailer.Read More

Super Mario 3D World | Review

Posted on January 6, 2014 by Les Major

I figured I’d enjoy Super Mario 3D World, but I didn’t realize how much fun it would be until I got into it. Throughout the game there is a lot of nostalgia mixed with newer style gameplay. In a lot of ways the game reminded me a lot of Super Mario Bros. 2, the US version. I’d actually originally gone in wishing this was a sequel to that part of the series, caught up with playing as the four heroes again that starred in the US remake of Doki Doki Panic. However 3D World quickly won me over and made me forget that dream for another day.

The adventure starts off with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad running off to save the Sprixies, these little fairy people who honestly reminded me of the citizens of Subcon. Bowser has captured them and taken off to their kingdom. You’re dropped off as your chosen player character on a open map you can wander and search for coins on. Sure it’s similar to Super Mario Bros. 3 with paths between levels, but you can actually wander off of those in this one.

LEGO The Hobbit Officially Announced

Posted on November 25, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Traveller’s Tales, creator of the fantastic LEGO games, has announced today a new LEGO game based off a popular book series that you may have heard of…LEGO The Hobbit. While some may see these as kids games, I’ll have to give TT credit because the last few games (LEGO Batman 2, LEGO Marvel, LEGO Lord of the Rings), have been exceptionally fun – yes, even for a “kids game”.
