The latest Compile Heart title headed on PlayStation Vita received a new trailer today giving some insight into MeiQ’s story. This dungeon crawling RPG features first person exploration, sort of like Etrian Odyssey but with actual triggered event style turn based combat. It looks to be quite the adventure and if anything, those of us who aren’t Vita owners can probably look forward to this title eventually making it’s way onto Steam like most Idea Factory titles in recent memory.
MeiQ: Labyrinth of Death will be released on September 13th in North America and on the 16th in Europe.
Trillion is an Idea Factory title in which you power up to take on Trillion, the god of destruction! Sounds nice, happy and to the point doesn’t it? Trillion seemingly gets his name from the 1,000,000,000,000 hit points he has. Hopefully he’s max level so he doesn’t need to change his name. It must have been weird for Trillion growing up. “Who are you?” “I’m Twenty-Four!” “Oh, that’s a shame because my sword has a DPS of twenty five!” We don’t need to worry about that though since Trillion has all those juicy hit points at level 1. Ahem, joking aside, what IS this game? Let’s find out!
First off it should be noted that unlike some Vita ports, which is what Trillion is, the game contains both English and Japanese voiced dialogue. So any of you out there who enjoy dubbed audio in your JRPG’s, you should still have that here. I can’t imagine that not surviving the port to Steam.
Unlike the cute Moe girls you’re used to from Idea Factory, Trillion takes on quite a Disgaea vibe which is something that stood out to me from the start. Instead of being like Hyperdimension Neptunia however, there seems to be a more tile based combat system in Trillion. When you move the enemies get to move. I’ve only looked at YouTube videos so far, but we do hope to get some hands on experience closer to the Steam release. As you can see in the image below, this specific combat focuses on Mokujin, a Trillion training dummy. He’s able to summon monsters and do some pretty devastating area of attack moves that show up both on your map in the upper left and on the actual level display as well. So you do have some warning of these big moves as well as time to avoid them. You can fight Mokujin every cycle, which works out to a week. In your main menu you’ll see the next coming of Trillion which the game counts down to in weeks.
That isn’t the only way to power up. A mode called Valley of Swords gives players a rogue-like dungeon to explore and fight enemies in. If anything it reminds me quite a bit of NIS’ game The Guided Fate Ultimatum. With Trillion baring down on the world however, you’re probably not going to be able to stop him the first time. Cool thing is, after your game over new game plus carries over your character progression. So it is really a neat concept. Grind away, fight back against Trillion, rinse, repeat.
We’ll be taking a further look into Trillion soon, but for now take a look at the trailer below.
Also, some of the screens in this article are from BlueMaxima’s Vita Channel. If you’d like to look deeper into Trillion right now, feel free to watch his video here:
NIS America has released some of my more favorite strategy RPGs over the years with the Disgaea series, and now Grand Kingdom is one of those potential games. Instead of bogging down a player that wants to get into the game quickly with a long, sprawling story, it’s pretty straightforward. The player is the leader of a band of mercenaries and contracts out services to the highest bidder. When put like that, it doesn’t sound too intimidating of a game. The backstory consists of the land of Uldain being in turmoil due to four warring kingdoms, and mercenaries are trying to take advantage of it to get rich or die trying.Read More
This month provides a little bit of the good, the bad, and the downright ugly on the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection front, this month, and I’m here to provide you a little insight on what you’re getting, this month, in case you didn’t rush out and get the games already or missed out on them.
Traveller’s Tales, creator of the fantastic LEGO games, has announced today a new LEGO game based off a popular book series that you may have heard of…LEGO The Hobbit. While some may see these as kids games, I’ll have to give TT credit because the last few games (LEGO Batman 2, LEGO Marvel, LEGO Lord of the Rings), have been exceptionally fun – yes, even for a “kids game”.
Square Enix has decided to delay the upcoming re-mastered versions of Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2 the publisher announced this morning. Instead of launching on the PlayStation 3 this November the collection has been moved to March 21st 2014 for the PlayStation 3 in North America. No news on the release date of the upcoming Vita version of the Final Fantasy X HD re-masters, but Square Enix issued a small statement to Joystiq where they will clear things up at a ‘future date’.
Final Fantasy X / X-2 has been touched up for the current generation of consoles with enhanced graphics and both games pressed on to a single disc. Other improvements that Square announced include the inclusion of 60 re-arranged music tracks and cross-save support for those who will be playing it on both PS Vita and PS3.
The PlayStation Vita is starting to become a portable utopia for fighting fans. Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale already grace the system, and if you include the games available from the PSP’s library, such a Tekken 6 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, you have a line-up of titles that should appease the most ardent of fighting fans.
Dead or Alive 5 Plus (hereafter DOA5+), Team Ninja’s portable installment ofDead or Alive 5, has a lot of competition, and with the aforementioned ports all ranging from good to excellent, a lot to live up to as well. Overall, the port delivers, bringing almost the entire console experience to the PlayStation Vita.Read More
Sony confirmed the PS4 at their “see the future” press event today in New York city. Taking the stage, the system’s architect outlined the development process behind the console, as well as several key features of the system and our first look at the user interface.
As previously rumored the system is based off an existing AMD APU – said to be clocked at 1.6GHZ, which has been confirmed to contain 8 cores. The GPU is very powerful according to Sony and the PlayStation 4 features 8GB of unified memory, giving developers approximately 16x the ram available in current generation consoles.
There isn’t just new hardware under the hood, Sony’s dual shock controller also has some major changes in store. The addition of a share button allows players to share screenshots, video and upload them onto the web without complicated software. The controller also features a light bar, similar to the move controller, which when used in conjunction with a new camera accessory gives the system the ability to detect the controllers position in 3D space.
Development of the PS4 began in 2008 and features a whole series of new features. We will have more soon, as it is announced.
Hotline Miami will be arriving on both PlayStation 3 and Vita this spring. The game will also be part of the Cross-Buy promotion, so you’ll only have to buy one version to own both. The hyper-violent 2D top-down action game was well received with critics, including here at Broken Joysticks. Video for the release after the jump.Read More

PlayStation Vita owners hold on your hats because a new firmware is now live! Okay, so it’s a minor update but it does fix a rather nasty bug that occurred when attempting to sync your PS+ Vita game saves to the cloud. Hopefully no one reading this has lost their saves, with great games like Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss on PSN Plus it would be a shame to have to restart.
The update was announced on twitter this morning and should only take a few moments to apply. On twitter Sony wrote:
“PS Vita system software update 2.01 coming soon. Will fix the issues with automatic synching of PS Plus game saves”
Atlus has released several new screenshots for the upcoming PS Vita port, Persona 4: Golden. These new screenshots focus on the RPG elements of the game: Showing the Rank Up screen and several pieces of dialogue.
For the uninitiated the Persona is best described as a hybrid RPG and dating simulator. Fusing real time combat and a heavy emphasis on forming and maintained relationships Persona 4: Golden could easily be consider two different games in one. As the main character you are responsible with navigating both the TV World, where battling monstrous creatures is the norm, and the real world where you are nothing more than an average highschooler.
Check out the screens below in our gallery. Persona 4: Golden will be released on the PS Vita on November 20th 2012 for $39.99 in North America.
Tarsier Studios (the team behind Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic) and Double Eleven (which hasn’t really made too much of a name for itself, yet) are coming together to create LittleBigPlanet for the Vita, with an all-new story. The developers have also released a new trailer for the game, which you can watch by reading more. Rest assured, it makes LBP on the PSP look like rubbish.
With the big 1.80 patch looming on the horizon, one has to mention the select games that Sony will be launching for the classic PS1 games. Well, we finally have a list. Originally, Sony said that there will be a list that would stagger to about 100 playable original Playstation 1 games on the device. How many games will we see at launch?Read More
