The Expendables 2 Videogame Available Now On XBLA, PSN and PC

Posted on August 18, 2012 by Les Major

Expendables 2 just hit theatres and to coincide with that release the video game is on XBLA, PSN and PC now too! Available for 1200MSP on XBLA or $14.99 for the PSN or PC version, the game features four playable characters from the movies roster. Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) are available for four player co-op. Featuring twin stick combat and vehicular combat sequences too.

Our own Eric Bastelak wasn’t too impressed with the game unfortunately in his review however for hardcore fans of the franchise you may want to check it out just for the story. The video game ends off where The Expendables 2 movie begins. The video game focuses on an adventure to rescue an extremely valuable, kidnapped billionaire.

I’m loving the return of classic action movies and it’s great to see a series with so many big names brought together like this! I’ll definitely be checking out the movie soon, and I’m sure at some point I’ll be giving the demo to The Expendables 2 videogame a whirl too.

Avengers: Battle For Earth GamesCon 2012 Trailer

Posted on August 15, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Avengers: Battle For Earth has me sitting on the proverbial fence. One one side, the comic nerd in me, wants this game so badly because a Marvel Comics game has never been able to be played this way. There-in lies the other side of the fence. The Kinect Only has always been a hit or miss when it comes to Kinect games.

I won’t this game completely as I have not seen the first bit of gameplay for it. But normally the Kinect games are really good (such asKinect Sports)or just awful. There’s normally an absence of middle ground.

With that being said, I am excited about this in my nerd sorta way. So, here is the trailer straight out of GamesCon 2012 and some screenshots as well:

So, what do you all think about these Kinect only games? Do you think Avengers: Battle For Earth has any potential at all?

New Naval Warfare Trailer For Assassin’s Creed III Sets Sail

Posted on August 14, 2012 by Les Major

It seems like just yesterday I was expressing my excitement over AC3’s naval warfare and today we already have a new trailer for the seafaring combat!

As Connor, you’ll lead your crew through rough waters and into battle against enemy ships. This interests me most of all being a fan of Skies of Arcadia which while AC3 isn’t an RPG, the naval combat tactics of coming alongside your enemy and releasing a barrage of cannon fire ring true. Playing out this kind of engagement sounds fantastic and set in the American Revolution AC3 is shaping up to be an amazing sequel.

Ubisoft shows off new AnvilNext engine in Assassin’s Creed III

Posted on August 2, 2012 by Eric Regier

With upwards of 2,000 non-playable characters on the screen at any one time and our new protagonist Connor Kenway getting over 1,000 new animations, this game is looking to surpass the previous Assassin’s Creed games in terms of gameplay and technical prowess.

Shifting the direction of the series to more of a wilderness setting accompanying the city landscapes that we’re used to exploring in the series, are you excited for the next chapter in Desmond’s story?

Ubisoft Announces GamesCom Lineup

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft has a pretty big stable of highly anticipated games coming to Germany’s Gamescom next month. I’m pretty sure everyone expected Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Liberation to be there in full form but how about a chance to check out ZombieU, their much talked about survival horror game from this June’s E3?

On top of the playable demos for the above games Ubisoft will also be hosting a press conference on August 15th at 3PM where they promise to announce at least one new free to play game. Check out the full list of games set to be on the show floor after the jump.Read More

Video Game Music: Vol 2

Posted on July 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

To view Volume 1, please click here!

As I sit here to write the next song, I am reminded of a song that took my breath away playing the original Assassin’s Creed. City of Jerusalem was the first song that I took notice to in Jesper Kyd’s great soundtrack that took the video game world by storm. The reason I choose City of Jerusalem for this week is because it does something new and bold that video game soundtracks rarely see. It takes a look at a middle eastern view on music and add’s great depth to the series, especially to this particular game in the franchise.

[youtube id=”dHy5tdmCod0″ width=”600″ height=”350″]

The song starts out very slow and methodical; adding wind instruments catching the tranquility of the area when you first hit Jerusalem. This is especially powerful when you land in Jerusalem and notice the huge city surrounded by a huge wall. The powerful imagery is then cast aside by roaming people when the arabic tones come into play. The arabic tones by the man singing and his backup chorus make City of Jerusalem come alive. The beat pickups up, imagining you’re headed into the city as you passerby’s speaking to each other in harmony. Jerusalem then becomes a living city and as your enter the city and you are greeted by the townspeople and as you put your horse’s reigns on wooden piece of block you enter the city where the music ends.

City of Jerusalem adds charm to the franchise in which none have seen before. Kyd’s recognition to the area surrounding the player adds a uniqueness that will be very hard to duplicate for many games to come. This is not the only piece within this great soundtrack that has a lot of these types of songs; you should buy the album from iTunes as soon as you’re done reading this article.

Next week, we head back to the classics. For now, I will leave you with this hint: You’re a winner!

Ghost Recon Future Soldier Enlists On Windows PC

Posted on June 26, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier has been available for home consoles since last month but now the game has deployed onto a whole new platform, Windows PC. Bringing with it a whole new array of PC exclusive features such as volume metric lighting, soft shadows and most importantly DirectX 11 support.

If you’re ready to suit up and join the fight the game has some impressive multiplayer modes created by Red Storm Entertainment, the original developers of the Rainbow Six Franchise.  The game’s multiplayer modes include classic six on six death match, objective and more. Perhaps the coolest mode, at least to me, is  Guerrilla mode which pits for people against waves of enemies similar to the horde mode founding Gears of War.

You’ll be able to find the game on your favorite digital distribution service starting today. For the full list of PC exclusive features and click the jump.Read More

Far Cry 3 Delayed In North America & Europe

Posted on June 25, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Bad news for all of you would-be island infiltrators. Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Far Cry 3  has been delayed in both North America and Europe. Instead of shipping in first week of September the game will now launch on November 29 in Europe and December 4th in the United States & Canada.

This delay is not believed to be due to any last minute development hitches, as the press release states that Far Cry 3 will have a positive impact on the companies bottom line for 2012. Perhaps it has been delayed to maximize sales? Whatever the reason just be glad this one didn’t slip into 2013 like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider did earlier this month.

Assassins Creed 3 Delayed on PC?

Posted on June 23, 2012 by Kirk Williford

It’s become almost tradition for the PC releases of Assassin’s Creed titles to arrive a bit later than their console counterparts, although Ubisoft has always insisted this is never their goal. Last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Revelations saw the closest release between PC and consoles for the series yet, although PC gamers still had to wait two weeks longer to experience the conclusion to Ezio’s story.

According to Eurogamer, the PC version of Assassin’s Creed 3 has been delayed. Citing promotion materials obtained by Eurogamer.cz, it appears that PC gamers will have to wait a little over 3 weeks longer than console gamers to play the next game in the AC franchise. The console version is scheduled to ship on October 31st — the new date for the PC version appears to be November 23rd.

Ubisoft refused to comment on the release date for the PC version of the game. It’s been long speculated that the delays have been out of concern of piracy, in order to assure more sales on consoles.
