Ubisoft’s U-Play App Now Available on Nintendo E-Shop

Posted on December 2, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Yesterday, Ubisoft officially released the U-Play app and is now available through the Nintendo Wii-U’s EShop. When the user downloads and installs the application, the user will need to enter a username and password to access special features upon using the application.

Some of the features the user has access to are information of games that Ubisoft releases, rewards, achievements and other content. Some of the content, however is still locked like U-Play TV, friends, and even more interestingly enough the the U-Play shop. When checking the Ubisoft website, these features are listed as Coming Soon.

Some of the games having already been released that work with the new app are Assassin’s Creed III, Raving Rabbids, and ZombiU.

Ubisoft Were The Big Winners of Amazon’s Black Friday Weekend

Posted on November 26, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

With Black Friday sales currently being tallied up at the writing of this article, one fact has been confirmed, Ubisoft have been successful this past weekend on arguably the best online store on the Internet. According to data from Cowen & Company, the French video game company pulled away with massive sales this Black Friday weekend, with Just Dance and Assassin’s Creed III in the top 20. On record, the Just Dance franchise have always had a title at the top of the most sold game on Black Friday weekend, and this happenstance is no different.

December might just be 31 days, but it accounts to a quarter of annual video game software sales in the U.S., which are undoubtedly vital for publishers to factor in when capitalizing in on the days after Thanksgiving.

Other factors worth noting is ten Xbox 360 games made the top 20 list, the oldest game on the list is technically Gran Turismo 5 (XL Edition) as it was reduced to ten dollars for the weekend, and even the previous iteration of Just Dance for the Wii even squeezed onto the list.  This list of top sellers from Amazon.com are listed below.

Estimated top-selling video games on Amazon.com, as of November 23-25:

  • Just Dance 4 (Wii)
  • Assassin’s Creed III (Xbox 360)
  • Halo 4 (Xbox 360)
  • Assassin’s Creed III (PS3)
  • Dishonored (Xbox 360)
  • Madden NFL 13 (Xbox 360)
  • FIFA Soccer 13 (PS3)
  • FIFA Soccer 13 (Xbox 360)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (Xbox 360)
  • Just Dance 4 (Xbox 360)
  • Madden NFL 13 (PS3)
  • Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (PS3)
  • Dishonored (PS3)
  • Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
  • Dance Central 3 (Xbox 360)
  • Skylanders Giants (Wii)
  • God of War Saga (PS3)
  • Just Dance 3 (Wii)
  • Lego Lord of the Rings (Xbox 360)

Wii U: Assassin’s Creed III

Posted on November 24, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Being a fan of the franchise of Assassin’s Creed III, it was so hard to wait for the Wii U version. I finally got the time to play the game and beat it within a short time. It’s been a while (see: year) since we have seen what the Assassins were up to since Ezio’s stories ended. Well, after Juno took over Desmond and showed him the end of Ezio’s storyline, we have been waiting to see what the new guy, Connor, will be like.

It should be noted that this isn’t a review. It is merely feedback of Assassin’s Creed III on the Wii U. I will be discussing how the game plays using the Wii U GamePad and the Pro Controller. On that note, let’s talk about the Wii U version.Read More

Assassin’s Creed III | Review

Posted on November 19, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Very few instances in American history have a greater importance or significance than the Revolutionary War. It marks a time when the colonists stood up to their motherland and fought for freedom and independence. We all know the story… or do we? What if there was a more sinister plot that the history books left out? What if the Templars & Assassins secretly altered history for what they believed was the true vision of America? I can’t think of a better point in history to bring one of the most intriguing fictional storylines in gaming today.

Without ruining too much of the opening sequences, you start out as Haytham Kenway which isn’t the actual main protagonist of Assassin’s Creed III. It’s a change of pace for the series and will probably surprise most when the plot comes to fruition. Fans of Desmond will be pleased to find out that he is also still controllable during certain stages of the game. As for how Conner, the Assassin, ties into the plot of things–well the people at Ubisoft did a fantastic job of giving you a reason for vengeance as you will see through the early game progression. The plot is actually very well written. It’s filled with twists and turns and plays out nicely if you stick around to see the end.

Assassin’s Creed III Trailer: Maps, Perks, & Characters

Posted on October 17, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Assassin’s Creed III is nearly here. If you’re anything like us, the impending release is driving you crazy. My opinion is that Ubisoft started off with a great idea with the first game. From there, each new game has only gotten more expansive and more impressive.

Ubisoft has released a trailer showing off some of the mulitplayer for Assassin’s Creed III. Including some of the maps you will play on, as well as the playable characters and their perks. Check it out!

For the US:

For the UK:

Don’t ask me why, but Ubisoft decided to region lock their videos…hence the two different videos above. Assassin’s Creed III is poised to strike October 30th! Requiescat In Pace.

Ubisoft Is Suing The Black Eyed Peas For A Million Bucks

Posted on October 17, 2012 by Seung Lee

A million dollars is a ton of money, no matter what type of life you live. That’s probably why Ubisoft is jumping on an opportunity to sue the Black Eyed Peas. BEP Music LLC, a company that owns the Black Eyed Peas trademark, was met with an unpleasant lawsuit for a million dollars yesterday.

Ubisoft is accusing BEP of breaching a contract regarding an iOS version of The Black Eyed Peas Experience. Apparently, the contract states that the popular band could approve or disapprove the idea within ten business days of the official request. BEP Music never responded, however, to Ubisoft, despite numerous requests for approval.

Ubisoft claims that it already used up 233 grand on the iOS game, and when you add in the loss of profits, it adds up to a million dollars in damages. Well, if the lawsuit doesn’t work out, the company can always fall back on Assassin’s Creed III, Imagine Babyz, and Petz Countryside for easy profits.

Sony Holiday Showcase: AC III Naval Combat Impressions

Posted on October 10, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

AC III’s demo opened with Connor decked out in traditional naval wear navigating the high seas on a clear sunny afternoon. When we first put our hands on the wheel it really felt like we set to navigate the high seas, seagulls flew overhead and the clouds parted allowing the sun to shine. Little did we know we were in for a harsh ride as we navigated the choppy sea tracking down enemy ships. Trailing these ships from behind we eventually caught up to our various targets, and that is where the real fun began.

The seas became rough and choppy as we rolled alongside our target with a storm raging. The amount of work Ubisoft has put into the water physics, boat movement and weather effects is damn impressive. There are full naval combat games that don’t feature physics this impressive. As our craft soared along side the various targets both shipped open fired using their side-mounted cannons. As the crew braced for impact, a command that Connor can execute using the face buttons, we crossed our fingers that our vessel would hold out.

Our brief demo ended with Conor and company boarding their last target.  As NPCs grabbed hooks and muskets the screen faded to black as the ropes smacked against the deck of the enemy ship. Our time with AC3’s naval combat was short but left us wanting more.

Rayman Legends Delayed

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Uh oh! It looks like the one of the very first launch titles will be delayed. Rayman Legends will be delayed until to Q1 2013 said Ubisoft today.

In a statement given by Ubisoft, this is what they had to say regarding the delay:

Rayman Legends will launch worldwide in the first quarter of 2013.

We’re happy that fans are excited about the game, and we are taking the time to make sure we deliver a game that lives up to and hopefully exceeds their expectations. We’ll have more details to share soon.

The original plan for Rayman Legend was that it was supposed to be one of the 23 launch titles that would ship with the system. The Wii U launch title count is now down to 22 in the US and 12 across Europe. One now has to wonder if the more titles could be delayed with the November 18th release date now creeping closer.

We hope, however, that this will be the last piece of bad news for titles coming out close to or on the release date .

Thunder Wolves Flies In With A Trailer

Posted on September 7, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Ubisoft and Most Wanted Entertainment have announced a new helicopter game called Thunder Wolves. It almost makes me reminisce about games I played way back when such as Nuclear Strike and Soviet Strike. What would it take to get those on XBLA? Anyways, Thunder Wolves will feature over 30 weapon/chopper combos and feature co-op play – one will fly the chopper and the other will shoot. Not sure how that will play out, but we’ll see (I’d prefer both players have their own chopper…but I’m not making it am I?)

[youtube id=”0Tdqhdp89sk” width=”600″ height=”350″]

Thunder Wolves plans to launch the first quarter of next year on XBLA, PSN, and PC.

Ubisoft Is Saying Goodbye To Always-On DRM

Posted on September 5, 2012 by Seung Lee

PC gamers will be relieved to hear that Ubisoft is finally dropping its always-on digital rights management. If you remember Diablo III, that game required players to always be connected to the Internet in order to play. Ubisoft’s PC games will no longer be like that. Instead, Stephanie Perotti, Ubisoft’s worldwide director for online games, told Rock, Paper, Shotgun in an interview that all future titles will come with a “one-time online activation when you first install the game, and from then you are free to play the game offline.”

It may seem like a strange decision for Ubisoft, especially considering that the company’s PC games currently have a 93-95% piracy rate. Then again, perhaps the voices of disappointed gamers around the world finally managed to reach the higher-ups’ ears. After all, people will always find a way to sneak past things like DRM. All it did was annoy the people who actually bought the games.

Far Cry 3 Trailer Takes You To Rook Islands

Posted on August 29, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Far Cry 3 welcomes you to the Rook Islands in this new trailer from Ubisoft. One of the more exciting features about Far Cry 3 that I’m pumped up about is the inclusion of a co-op campaign. Granted it is seperate from the single player campaign, it’s still a great addition to the Far Cry series!

Here is what Ubisoft has to say about Far Cry 3:

“Join Agent Huntley, an ex-CIA operative, for an insider’s tour of the insanity of Far Cry 3. Discover the island’s history. Meet the mysterious and deadly residents. And step into a world of exotic animals and extreme travel.”

Far Cry 3 is set to release November 30th in Europe and December 4th in North America
