Posted on September 19, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

During their Final Fantasy XV reveal for this year’s Tokyo Games Show Square Enix has released a brand new 5 minute game-play segment for their upcoming RPG. This latest slice of game-play showcases Noctus and crew stepping out of their car to spend some time with everyone’s favorite yellow birds, the chocobos.  Near the end of the trailer a brand new fishing minigame is also showcased.

Square Enix’s official Youtube channel offers this description of the trailer:

In gameplay footage revealed at TGS 2015, Noctis and his crew explore a new area on the backs of chocobos, showing off some of the ways the classic series mount can move in FINAL FANTASY XV. The party then dismounts and heads to a pier for some fishing, a new mini-game players can explore. The fish you can catch can even be taken back to camp and cooked!

MGS V “Tagging Demo” Is Absolutely Fantastic

Posted on September 25, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Hideo Kojima’s next Metal Gear Solid title has had an enigmatic development cycle, originally revealed at  PAX 2012 and then followed up by a seemingly related mystery trailer at the Spike VGAs last year, fans have waited with baited breath for more information about the game. With the Tokyo Games Show coming to a close we’ve finally got our eyes on a brand new 12 minute gameplay clip – and you can too!

Featuring a “special mission” from Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, this new lengthy clip shows us how the tagging system works versus the original Metal Gear Solid’s Soliton Radar System. Instead of a small overhead section of the map displayed in the right hand corner of the screen Snake  has access to a small PDA type device that will display a map (sans enemies) without breaking the flow of gameplay or pausing. There are also two different mechanics that change how you monitor enemies movement and end alerts.  Bringing things in line a little bit with Splinter Cell Conviction while still retaining the tense stealth action the MGS franchise is known for.Read More

PS Vita TV: Sony Considering Positive Western Response

Posted on September 21, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

During their TGS Pre-show Sony Japan announced a new set-top version of the PlayStation Vita aimed at the living room and now  SCEA CEO Andrew House has stated that the console manufacturer is ‘very encouraged’  by the excitement of western gamers.  This doesn’t confirm a western release but it is at least a small sign that at the executive level Sony is aware of western demand for this yet unreleased miniature PS Vita.

PS Vita TV is a small device, measuring 6.5CM X 10.5CM that contains the internal guts of a PlayStation Vita, Game Card/Memory Card slot and for the first time an HDMI port – something the 2011 PS Vita model sorely lacked.  Alongside the ability to play downloaded PSP/PS Vita and physical Vita Game Cards PS Vita TV can also access video streaming services such a Netflix, Hulu and the Japan only Tsutaya TV. Meaning that Sony’s latest piece of kit will combat with other streaming media boxes while offering a superior  library of games!

This little white box will start appearing under Japanese TVs on November 14th for around $150 USD. No official confirmation or date for a western or European release but with the PlayStation 4 launching in just two short months chances are we will see the PS Vita TV sometime in 2014.

Namco Bandai Games released some new gameplay footage of their next game in the “Tales of” series at the Tokyo Game Show on Thursday. Tales of Xillia 2 is the direct sequel to Tales of Xillia and the eighteenth game in the series.

Tales of Xillia 2 is set in a world named Elenpios, which currently remains in harmony with Liese Maxia. Microsoft Won’t Have a Presence At TGS or Gamescom 2012

Posted on June 14, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Microsoft will be skipping out on both the Tokyo Games Show and Gamcom in Germnay this year in order to focus on smaller promotional events the hardware manufacturer announced today through Major Nelson’s blog.

This leaves Sony as the only big manufacturer left to attend Gamescom, which is the largest public gaming convention in the world. Nintendo confirmed earlier this year that they too would also not have a presence this year at the show. Now that I think about it, Microsoft also pulled out of CES, this year. Their keynote at the Las Vegas show was unfortunately their last after a number of years in attendance.

Does this mean that Microsoft will go the Nintendo route? – Smaller invite only events and live streaming conferences? We’ll see in the months leading up the launch of Halo 4 and Smart Glass. Surely they can’t launch both of these products without some kind of promotion.
