Do A Barrel Roll With These Two Star Fox Zero Gameplay Videos

Posted on April 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Fox Zero

Earlier in the week, after all of the PAX East madness had subsided, my wife & I decided to do a co-op stream of Star Fox Zero. This take on the Star Fox series, the first console release since 2005, brings with it a unique control scheme that has players looking at the Wii U game pad and television screen simultaneously.

Our full review is still incoming, but for now I hope you’ll enjoy these two videos covering the game’s tutorial section and first real missions. In this co-op setup my wife controlled the Arwing’s movements with a Wii Remote and I used the Wii U game pad to control the artillery.

CAN’T LET YOU DO THAT, STAR FOX!

Star Fox Zero The Anime? You Can Check It Out Right Here

Posted on April 23, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Fox Zero

Nintendo recently released a 14 minute anime short to help promote yesterday’s launch for Star Fox Zero for the Wii U. Serving as an introduction to the major characters – Fox, Peppy, Slippy, Falco and General Pepper – it doesn’t exactly shed any new light on the Star Fox universe but it is still quite the treat for long time fans.

Like the game, the aesthetic of “The Battle Begins is very reminicint of Star Fox 64 and it can be quite amusing to see some of the long running anime tropes make their way into the Star Fox formula. Also if you happen to remember the introduction cinematic for SF64 look for a visual shoutout to that game about half way through this episode.

Production IG, famous for their work on Ghost In The Shell / The End of Evangelion & others handled the animation for “The Battle Begins”.

Star Fox Zero Will Ship An Additional Game, Star Fox: Guard

Posted on March 4, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Fox Zero

Nintendo kicked off their huge 42 minute Nintendo Direct the same way that they kicked off last year’s E3 – with new information about the upcoming aerial space combat game Star Fox: Zero. Perhaps the juiciest piece of information revealed is that Star Fox Zero’s physical release will come bundled with two  games, the previously announced Star Fox Zero and a new title Star Fox: Guard.

Star Fox: Guard is a tower defense game set in the Star Fox universe. In this new title players must assist Slippy Toad and his uncle defeat waves of oncoming enemies by placing down canons and other defenses.  Over 100 pre-designed missions will be available on the Guard disc as well as an online mode that will allow players to upload custom made enemy placements on a number of pre-defined maps.

The physical release will bundle both games together in a dual disk package. Digitally Star Fox Zero and Star Fox: Guard will be sold separately with the price of the two games combined to equal the physical retail release. This is great news for folks who might want to just pick up Zero and skip Guard for the time being.

Both games will be out in North America on April 22nd.

Nintendo Affirms April Release Date For Star Fox Zero, Confirms Amiibo Support

Posted on January 21, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Fox Zero

Nintendo reaffirmed their plan to launch Arwings into the stars on April 22nd despite rumors that they would delay the upcoming Star Fox reboot, Star Fox Zero, after an online retailer listed the game for a July release.

The game not only features a unique dual screen approach to piloting the Arwing but will also have support for Amiibo Nintendo confirmed via press release. So far two Star Fox characters – Fox and Falco- have joined Nintendo’s line of collectable figures. It is not known what functionality Amiibo will bring to Star Fox Zero or whether or not we will get that Arwing themed figure that Miyamoto teased last year.

Here’s the full quote from Nintendo’s Press Release:

Finally, Star Fox Zero delivers a new beginning for the classic shooter series. With a unique control scheme that uses both the TV screen and the screen on the GamePad, players pilot multiple vehicles through intergalactic levels with Fox and his classic crew. The game launches exclusively for Wii U on April 22 and will feature amiibo compatibility. More details will be revealed at a later time.

Nintendo Dampening Expectations For This Most Recent Direct Was the Right Move

Posted on November 12, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s decision to post a notice on the Nintendo Direct official website outlining that they had no plans to discuss the NX or Mobile during today’s broadcast was absolutely the right move. Usually dampening your fan bases expectation for such a high profile event like the return of Nintendo Directs would be a bad thing but I feel that it helped Nintendo focus solely on the message that the Wii U and 3DS have a lot of life left in them heading into next year.  Read More

Star Fox Zero Locks-On To A New Release Date

Posted on September 17, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like Star Fox fans will be waiting just a little bit longer before they can pilot their Arwings on Nintendo’s latest console as Star Fox Zero has slipped into the first quarter of 2016.

This news comes via IGN.com which reports that legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto is quoted in the following statement regarding the game’s development. It seems that Nintendo needs a bit more time to add some polish to the dual screen experience and cut-scenes.

“We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year, Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes.”

Star Fox Zero was originally revealed at E3 2014 and was featured prominently during Nintendo’s treehouse live segments during the show. The game takes several design cues from Star Fox 64 and includes the ability to transform the Arwing into a walker, similar to core mechanic from the cancelled SNES title Star Fox 2.

No specific release date for Star Fox 0 is currently available, previously it was scheduled for a November 20th release.

Star Fox Zero Targets a November Releas Date

Posted on August 25, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Star Fox pilots prepare to scramble towards your Arwings for a November 20th launch date! That’s right Nintendo’s upcoming reimagining of Fox McCloud and friends – Star Fox Zero – arrives on the Wii U this winter.

The game was revealed during this summer’s E3 Nintendo Direct and was also the focus of several lengthy Nintendo Treehouse presentations during the convention.

Zero marks the return to the skies for the franchise after almost a decade without a proper console release as well as the addition of the Arwing Walker mode from the cancelled SNES title Star Fox 2 allowing pilots to take on foes in both aerial and land battles.
