Grab The Latest Guilty Gear Game For $8 With PlayStation’s ‘Attack of the Blockbuster’ Sale

Posted on August 15, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Attack of the Blockbuster’ isn’t the return of the now defunct 90s / 00s video rental chain but the name of the latest large sale on the PlayStation Network. Featuring games from publishers like Electronic Arts, Arc System Works, 2K Games, Activision, Square Enix, Nippon Ichi Software and Square Enix – it is clear that Sony is going for AAA deals this week.

Some of the standout titles (at least to my tastes) include a deeply discounted Dead or Alive 5: The Last Round, Final Fantasy HD Collection (hey two games for the price of one!), the PS4 port of Ultra Despair Girls and Resident Evil Origins. A few of these games we’ve seen cheaper on PlayStation before – like Battlefront & the Season Pass which have been as low as $5 each and the Saints Row Double Pack (Gat out of Hell + Saints Row IV).

Personally, I already nabbed the $8 copy of Guilty Gear: Revelator for my PlayStation 4. This is the latest title in the storied franchise and I’ve missed it every time a 14 day free trial of modern Guilty Gear has come up  on PSN (one with the original release of Guilty Gear Sign and most recently with the expansion Revelator 2).

For fighting fans looking to try one of Arc System Works latest titles on the cheap, this is an excellent opportunity – featuring 20 characters, exclusive Japanese Audio and a beautiful 2D/3D anime aesthetic. Recently an expansion was released, oddly titled Revelator 2 despite being an expansion, that includes all of the content from Revelator plus two new characters: Baiken and Answer and exclusive story chapters for those two fighters. If you absolutely must play with the latest balance passes it is actually cheaper to buy the original Guilty Gear: Revelator for $8CDN and the upgrade DLC to Revelator 2 for $24.99 ($32.00 total) versus the full priced single download @ $53.99 CDN.

Without further ado here are the deals the stood out in this weeks sale:

  • Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 – $12.99 CDN (PS4)
  • Blazblue: Central Fiction – $31.99 CDN (PS4)
  • Final Fantasy VII – $7.99 CDN (PS4)
  • Guilty Gear: Revelator – $7.99 (PS4)
  • Dragon Age Origins: Game of the Year Edition (includes all DLC) – $16.04 CDN (PS4)
  • Dead or Alive: The Last Round – $15.99 CDN (PS4)
  • Daganronpa 1+2 Reloaded (Collection) – $26.99 CDN (PS4)
  • Metro Redux Bundle (Last Light + 2033) – $8.99 CDN (PS4)
  • The Walking Dead: Season 1 by Telltale – $7.99 CDN (PS4)

For a complete list of all Attack of the Blockbuster sales head on over to the PlayStation Store.

PC gaming passes mobile gaming as most profitable sector of gaming industry

Posted on January 27, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Superdata a market research firm, are reporting this week that the digital games market in 2015 was worth $61 billion across all platforms. This is over 8% more than last years numbers. Despite the largest jump (34%) being in digital sales on consoles, League of Legends leads the pack for most money made by a game in 2015. League reigns supreme but just after League is mobile titan Clash of Clans. Which pulled in a very impressive $1.3 billion over the year. The remainder of the top 5 games are all on PC, with Smilegate’s Crossfire, at $1.1 billion, Dungeon Fighter Online from Neople at $1.05 billion, and World of Warcraft, which in its 11th year of existence earned $814 million dollars.

gamesales

Perhaps most encouraging to PC gamers is the reports assertion that the top ten PC games actually pull in more money than the top ten mobile games, with $6.3 billion earned on PC compared to $6.1 billion on mobile. This is a good sign, it means that PC gaming is healthy that players are buying games, and that E-sports is big business with Riot leading the way.

The report goes on to says “PC-based gaming—consisting of free-to-play MMOs, subscription-based games like World of Warcraft, social games and PC downloadable games—earns over $32 billion annually, well above the $25.1 billion generated by mobile games, Three of the year’s top five digital PC games (Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3) were released in 2015, indicating that PC gamers have made significant progress transitioning to purchasing games digitally.”

The full list of top-grossing PC games in 2015, in millions:

  1. League of Legends (Tencent/Riot Games): $1,628
  2. CrossFire (SmileGate): $1,110
  3. Dungeon Fighter Online (Neople): $1,052
  4. World of Warcraft (Activision Blizzard): $814
  5. World of Tanks (Wargaming.net): $446
  6. Lineage 1 (NCsoft): $339
  7. Maplestory (Nexon): $253
  8. DOTA 2 (Valve): $238
  9. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Valve): $221
  10. Grand Theft Auto V (Take-Two Interactive): $205

this is a pretty interesting list, League I excepted to to see but CrossFire, and Dungeon Fighter Online, I had never even heard of! Turns out both are free to play Asian market releases. In each case both were/are being ported to the States as well, but its intresting that the top 5 contain two games that are not even available in  the west.

Transistor crosses 1 Million sales

Posted on December 30, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Tiny developer Super Giant Games  is no stranger to sucess. Their previous isometric styled RPG story game, Bastion was also a huge success, so it should come as very little surprise that their second time Transistor is also a success. According to the developer the game has sold more than one million copies as of December of this year. This is no doubt helped along by the fact that the game is now multiplatform, having jumped the gap and been added to the Ps4 earlier in the year.

transistor

“We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to stick together as a team and with any luck keep making the kinds of games that resonate with you for a long time to come,” Supergiant said in a blog post he went on to say “Word-of-mouth is what kept Bastion going for way, way longer than we could have imagined, and it’s what’s kept Transistor going strong, too,” Ios versions of both Transistor and its sister game Bastion have also been announced, but it seems Xbox users are still out in the cold, unable to play the beautiful story heavy RPGs.

Sony’s Sales Strong Throughout Black Friday

Posted on November 29, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

After much counting and calculating, Sony revealed its Black Friday weekend sales figures, where the PlayStation 3 and Vita bundles made a solid consumer impact.

Thanks in part to the PlayStation 3 Ultimate Value Bundles, 525,000 PS3s were sold throughout which was an increase in bundled sales by 15% over last year.. Meanwhile, PS3 systems, games and accessories sales improved as well by 9%.The PlayStation Vita bundles (ACIII: Liberation, COD:BO:Declassified, Lego Batman 2) gave the ailing system a much-needed boost, contributing to 160,000 Vitas sold.

In another Sony sales surprise, the PlayStation Plus subscriptions have exploded, resulting in an increase of a whopping 259% of the PSN service over last year’s Black Friday. Thanks in part to the myriad of discounted and free products that PlayStation Plus users can take advantage of, the service has received an overall customer satisfaction rating of 95%.

Indie Gala Seven Begins

Posted on July 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Indie Gala has just launched its seventh “pay what you want” game bundle. If you purchase a copy of this bundle, you can choose how to split up your money between the developers, two charities, and Indie Gala. The charities you may donate to in this bundle are the Italian Red Cross (to help in efforts in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy that suffered from a series of earthquakes in May) and AbleGamers, which works to help make video games more accessible for disabled people.

They’ve got a couple of great games in this bundle (each of which will come with a Steam key). People who pay less than the average price (which is about $7.00) will receive Rig’n’Roll, Space Rangers, Reign: Conflict of Nations, and a mystery game. People who pay more that the average will also receive Death to Spies, Death to Spies: Moment of Truth, King’s Bounty: Armored Princess, UFO: Afterlight and another mystery game.

I personally think that King’s Bounty: Armored princess alone is worth over $7.00.

If any of this sounds interesting to you then check out the bundle here. It will be running for another 13 days, so you can afford to tarry a little bit.

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 19th

Posted on July 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Well, yesterday’s plot didn’t work out so well, and the Steam Sale marches on. I’ve been thinking about ways to stop this ravager of wallets. Perhaps I’ll start a Kickstarter project to bring an end to these deals. The basic concept is that I will build some sort of giant magnet as well as a “mancannon.” We’ll suck out Valve employees with the magnet and shoot them into the Puget Sound with the mancannon, forcing Gabe Newell to end this madness. I’m estimating that this will cost several million dollars and can only hope that EA’s Senior Vice President of Global Ecommerce, David DeMartini, will donate a few million to help get this started.

That being said, you may see today’s deals below.Read More

Steam Summer Sale Deals For July 18th

Posted on July 18, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The Steam Summer Sale continues despite my best attempts at monkeywrenching. In fact, I used all the knowledge at my disposal. For instance, while cutting my cable company’s fiber optic lines, I made certain to cut a section of wire out and take it with me. That makes things harder for the technicians to fix. I also used a taser on my modem and router for good measure.

Then I discovered that this DIDN’T affect Steam in anyway. In fact it just messed things up for me. Oh boy, am I in a pickle now! On the plus side, I won’t have the money for anymore of these pesky sales!

That being said, you may read today’s deals below.Read More

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 14th

Posted on July 14, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

As I feared, the Steam summer sale has continued, and it shows no signs of abating before the 22nd. I tried to fight it, but I eventually gave into the temptation and bought some games. My friend better enjoy Space Marine, because that’s one submarine sandwich that I’ll never be able to eat.

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 13th

Posted on July 13, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Shortly after 10 AM Pacific Daylight Time, the Steam Summer Sale of 2012 began its second day. The carnage is unspeakable, as Valve continues to ravage the wallets of countless PC gamers. I was even suckered into partaking in one of these so-called deals. For the sake of my discretionary spending, I can only pray that the sale doesn’t start back up again at around 10 AM PDT tomorrow.

That being said, we’ve posted today’s daily deals below. Anything look enticing?Read More

Steam Summer Sale Begins

Posted on July 12, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

It was bound to happen sooner or later. The Steam Summer Sale has officially started. Are you ready to throw money at GabeN?

There are a few changes from the last couple of sales. First off, there are no achievement hunts or contests. These have been replaced by “Flash Sales” and “Community Choice” deals. Flash sales last for less than a day (for instance Deus Ex Human Revolution is on sale for $7.50 for the next four and a half hours or so). The “Community Choice” deals are voted on by Steam users and last for 8 hours. At the moment, users can choose between massive discounts on Saints Row: The Third, Batman: Arkham City, and The Witcher 2.

Since the Flash Sales and Community Choice deals may very well change before you read this, we’ll just give a rundown of today’s daily deals.

Act Fast if you’d like a cheap copy of Legend of Grimrock

Posted on July 10, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

If you are interested in picking up a cheap copy of the newfangled dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock, then you should head on over to Good Old Games. You can pick it up on sale for $7.49 USD until July 11 at 5:59 AM EDT. That’s a pretty good deal for a critically acclaimed game that just came out in April. Unfortunately, you’ll have to act with extreme alacrity if you want to get in on this.

Have any of you played it? What are your thoughts? Is a $7.49 DRM free copy a steal that will intrigue even the most jaded rouges and thieves?

Second Free DLC Released for Wargame: European Escalation

Posted on July 5, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Eugen Systems released additional free downloadable content for Wargame: European Escalation today. The “Conquest” DLC adds a new mode (which also goes by the moniker “conquest”). This mode, playable against the AI or other people, is based around seizing and maintaining control of victory sectors on the map rather than annihilating the enemy’s forces. It also comes with 7 new maps (bringing the total number of maps to around 27). To commemorate the new DLC, Wargame is half off on Steam from now until the 9th of July.

You can read my review of Wargame here. Read on if you’re interested in my initial impressions of the DLC.Read More
