Posted on March 27, 2013 by Jason Nason

Luigi is back at the mansion and ready to face the ghosts causing havoc. Okay, so he’s not really ready to face them; in fact, Luigi is reluctant and has been thrown back into a similar situation as he was before.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is the sequel to the 2001 original Luigi’s Manison for the Nintendo GameCube. The game brings Mario’s little brother back to help Professor E. Gadd.Read More

New Super Mario Bros. U | Review

Posted on January 15, 2013 by Les Major

There’s something about New Super Mario Bros. U that feels like a step onto new ground. First off, the map screen is a welcome change featuring winding pathways similar to Super Mario World. I know it’s just a simple cosmetic change, but with such little story in the side-scrolling games compared to the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, the world map gives more of an adventuring feel. I realize this is an odd point to start with, but I’m a huge fan of this and it’s a feature I’ve missed. New Super Mario Bros. Wii did a good job bringing it back, and New Super Mario Bros. U (hereafter Mario U) feels solid with the expansive map returning to the series.Read More

Ragnarok Odyssey | Review

Posted on December 9, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Everyone has their own vices when it comes to video games. Whether it is killing civilians in Grand Theft Auto or enjoying social media games, there’s a guilty pleasure you don’t really talk much about. My guilty pleasure has been mob grinding dungeon crawlers filled with lots of loot and potential upgrades for my character. Sure, it is a JRPG sub-genre that doesn’t get a lot of attention, but that is why I was so excited to hear that Xseed was bringing Ragnarok Odyssey to the West. Unfortunately, I haven’t been this disappointed with a game in quite sometime.Read More

Dishonored | Review

Posted on October 8, 2012 by Jesse Lord

What would you do with a drunken whaler,
What would you do with a drunken whaler,
What would you do with a drunken whaler,
Early in the morning?

High towers rise up, overlooking long-neglected ruins.  Plague runs rampant throughout many of the city’s districts.  Houses and apartments are fitted with reinforced blast doors, the sign of another family lost to the powerful and fatal disease.  Train cars trundle about down the narrow streets, brimming with canvas-wrapped bodies.  Corrupt and power-drunk city watchmen prowl the streets, looking for any opportunity to inflict pain and suffering on the survivors.  Huge whaling ships float by in the harbors, off to search for more of their bounty and it’s life-and-power-giving properties.

Welcome to Dunwall.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 | Review

Posted on September 18, 2012 by Les Major

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a true sequel to the original DS title, following a similar flow and feeling to the overall game. If you’ve been eager for more levels to explore in the traditional Mario platformer style, this game is for you.

There is a lot of content we’ve come to know and love in Mario games, as well as a mix of new surprises here. There’s red coins to collect in a short time frame, three star coins per level, and invisible blocks scattered about ready to be discovered. Building on that the prominent feature of this sequel is different methods of collecting coins.Read More

The Walking Dead: Starved For Help [Episode 2] Review

Posted on June 29, 2012 by Matthew Regier

In case you haven’t read the first review of this ongoing series you can find that here.

Have you ever been so hungry that you would be willing to do anything for a meal? What price would you pay for a single meal? Telltale’s The Walking Dead Episode 2: Starved For Help asks these questions and the choices  are never easy. The highly anticipated second episode to The Walking Dead story set in the comic universe of Robert Kirkman will send shivers up your spine and make your heart race with its perfect blend of atmosphere and drama and will make you question even your own limits in a dire situation.

The second chapter begins three months after the conclusion of the first episode in the Motor Inn that the ground created their base out of. Tensions begin high during a hunting excursion in the woods to find that a meal is difficult to find as even the wildlife is beginning to dwindle due to the “Walker” outbreak. The first scene alone sets the tone for the episode as you are immediately set with a decision that is necessary but very difficult to make and would make the most hardened men squirm in their chair.

Winter has come my friends. Game of Thrones, an RPG set in George R.R. Martin’s phenomenal universe, is here. WipeOut 2048 Vita | Review

Posted on May 21, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

The launch of a brand new PlayStation platform and the WipeOut franchise almost go hand in hand. When the original PlayStation Portable launched in 2005 with the phenomenal WipeOut Pure followed by 2009s WipeOut Pulse. Even the PlayStation 3 got in on the action with 2008’s WipeOut HD. Does WipeOut’s formula of futuristic racing machines, hard hitting weapons and breakneck speed equal fun on Sony’s latest handheld?

WipeOut 2048 like its predecessors brings the entire package to Sony’s new handheld. Just because the game is being placed on a Vita Game Card doesn’t mean that SCE LiverPool had to compromise any of its artistic vision. Those of you looking for a faced paced racer are in for a treat with 2048, as the game offers several different game modes including offensive/defensive only events, time trials, four different classes of ships (D through A) and four distinct seaons (one per class).Read More

The Walking Dead | Review

Posted on April 27, 2012 by Matthew Regier

Telltale games has started up a new episodic game series, and as can always be expected – it’s pretty awesome. A prequel of the story in the hit TV show based on the hit comic book series, it’s The Walking Dead. There are five episodes to the Walking Dead, one will be coming out each month. If length is to be judged by the first episode then we will be looking at 3-4 hours each. Which is good value considering its $25 price tag or its 400 Microsoft point value per episode.

The story follows protagonist Lee Everett and a young girl he finds alone named Clementine as they try their best to survive during the current zombie apocalypse. Along their way they will encounter a myriad of characters. Some of whom will like you, others will dislike you, and even a couple will die horribly in the tradition of zombie horror.

The style of the game follows a comic book, but adapting it to 3D models which can at times look awkward. Overall it is executed quite well. With much of the action being in the dialogue. The dialogue design is handled almost identically to how it was handled in Obsidion’s Alpha Protocol. In which you are given a timed selection of your dialogue choices with a variety of options. Adding in even silence as an option. Your choices in dialogue will greatly impact the story down the line in later episodes.
