Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax | Review

Posted on October 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PlayStation Vita

Anime and fighting games are two things that have come hand-in-hand at least early as the success of Street Fighter II back in the early 90s. Whether discussing games that utilize anime tropes and art-styles like Melty Blood or games that feature anime characters from a number of high profile series – like Dengek Bunko: Ultimate Fighting Climax, the synergy between the two is obvious.  SEGA USA brings us a brand new fighting game for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita that features a number of characters from some of the best anime from the past 10 years, but does it hold up?Read More

Rememoried | Review

Posted on October 8, 2015 by Broken Joysticks

Review Written By: Focks

Rememoried is an indie game developed by Vladimir Kudelka and published by Hangonit. It is a first-person adventure game with puzzle game elements. A very minimalistic, surreal game focused on the exploration of the levels.

One of the main ideas of this game is that dreams become memories, and those memories are then turned back into dreams. Vladimir’s own dreams and memories have influenced the making of the game. One dream can modify previous dreams. Falling asleep while stargazing can make your dreams much more intense.

Many of the levels hover between being abstract and concrete and focus on imagery of that specific level. Flickering pixels and misplaced polygons can be seen in many of the levels. The game is visually stunning and exploring the levels before figuring out how to beat them will let you experience the beauty of this game.

Daily Espada is the newest indie from Pedro Gabriel, pits an ordinary man against Brazil’s most bizarre and exciting fictional game show.  Our hero will be given a sword and a gun and forced to fight against hordes of Brazil’s greatest mythological creatures in exchange for fabulous prizes.  The sword gives our hero the power to transform in a super-sentai kind of way, donning a black suit with red accents that give you additional more powerful combos and a super ability. Warhammer 40K Regicide | Review

Posted on September 14, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Review by Fionna Fox:

In the grim dark future there is only CHESS?

Warhammer 40K Regicide marries chess and the turn based combat of the Warhammer table top game. The core game play is chess like, but blended with previous entries in to the Warhammer strategy world it takes the brutal game play of Warhammer 40k Space Hulk and frame it on a chess board, mixing in a variety of fun non-chess mechanics, to get an satisfying Warhammer 40K experience.

Blood flies as my knight takes a pawn with a brutal finishing move that reduced the pawn to gore splattered heap. Bolters spit bullets at orks with that trademark sound, and chaos Magiks fly across the board. This is CHESS! But, chess in a brutal future where there is only warRead More

Heroes of The Storm | Review

Posted on September 6, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Written By: Fionna Fox

Have you ever wanted to see a Zerged out Kerrigan throw down with Thrall? How about Tasadar and the Witchdoctor from Diablo 3? All possible with blizzards new MOBA game, Heroes of the Storm.

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games have recently become as common as grains of sand on a beach but Blizzards entry is looking to differentiate itself by creating a unique niche inside of a very crowded environment. Heroes appeals to a more casual audience than league or DOTA with most matches lasting less than 20 minutes, and a heavy emphasis on team fights and objectives. The item shop has been removed and leveling is done as a team, rather than individually. This is balanced out with a unique role system that creates a rock, paper, scissors feeling when choosing champions. Games are made more variable by a set of talents that modify the core ability of each champion which you chose as you level up in game. This system makes the game feel very much like Warcraft III with progressive leveling of your heroes as the game goes on. The whole thing is wrapped up in the beautiful tile sets of blizzards many worlds and has a really aesthetic.Read More

Batman: Arkham Knight | Review

Posted on September 1, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The RockSteady developed Arkham games have been absolutely fantastic and have proved once and for all that superhero storylines aren’t just confined to the pages of comic books or recent film adaptations. Within the span of two games they proved that players could fill the shoes of The Dark Knight while doing the source material justice. Their game worlds have been full of memorable villains and challenging missions while providing a main narrative that always seems to raise the stakes.  As the Caped Crusader swoops down on current generation consoles we set out to ask does his latest game complete the trilogy?Read More

Titanfall | Review

Posted on July 16, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PC

Titanfall is Respawn Entertainment’s first foray into the online shooter arena since their formation after the huge breakup at Infinity Ward several years ago. Hoping to carve out a space in the FPS for themselves, can giant mechs and the addition of A.I opponents to a traditionally player vs player environment will help set the game apart? Titanfall may be a year and a half old now but with the season’s pass going free to celebrate the game’s one year anniversary now might be the perfect time to hop into a titan.Read More

After the Sim City disaster a few years ago the genre has certainly seen better days. Can Paradox Interactive revitalize this troubled genre with this latest release? If planning out residential zones, parks and city services sound entertaining to you make sure to keep reading.Read More

Dying Light | Review

Posted on February 8, 2015 by Les Major

Taking the zombie survival genre we’ve come to know and love, then making it into an open world adventure that lies somewhere between Mirror’s Edge and Dead Rising, this is a fantastic title! There’s something familiar but unique in the first person presentation of Dying Light’s parkour style gameplay. As a runner for a group of survivors you’ll venture out into the zombie infested fictional city of Harran. So what makes this such an experience? Read on to find out.

First off, the parkour style gameplay really sets Dying Light aside. Picture it as similar to some of the action you may have experienced in Mirror’s Edge, mixed with a first person Assassin’s Creed style climbing setup. It’s really something to take a running leap off of a stories tall building with the intent to grab a balcony in the distance. The game encourages you to look toward the ledge you want to grab and this is very much how the mechanic works. You do need to press and hold a shoulder button as well, but otherwise you’ll just jump. Focusing on your goal allows the engine to know where you want to go.Read More

Space Lift Danger Panic! | Review

Posted on January 24, 2015 by Jason Nason

Space Lift Dangers Panic! is a quick little arcade game on the Nintendo 3DS eShop that can be played in quick five minute bursts, but the repetitive gameplay also makes the game makes the game hard to play for more than ten minutes at a time.

Let’s face it, playing games on a portable game system comes in two kinds. One is the game that you sit in the dark at home and marathon through while the other is the kind where you whip out your system and play for just a few minutes. Space Lift Danger Panic! is the latter.

The game is really easy to pick up and play, and despite the epic intro text for the game, the game is very basic. It is exactly what the game designers bill it as, the ultimate retro-arcade challenge.
