Posted on September 2, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Avalanche Software and Warner Bros Interactive have kicked things into overdrive with the release of Mad Max for Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

This new open world action game puts players in the role of Max as he is confronted by the current warlord of gastown, Scrotus, as his iconic car -the interceptor – is destroyed and Max is left for dead.  Players must complete main story missions as well as explore the Wasteland for side activities to upgrade their abilities, scavenge for scrap and supplies to upgrade their new ride – the Magnum Opus.

Peter Wyse of Warner Bros Interactive’s Production and Development Division had this to say about the game:

“Avalanche Studios has created an expansive, beautiful open world environment that comes to life with a brand new story for Mad Max.”

Mad Max is available at physical retailers and digitally through the Xbox Live Market Place, PlayStation Store and Steam for Windows.

Batman: Arkham Knight | Review

Posted on September 1, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The RockSteady developed Arkham games have been absolutely fantastic and have proved once and for all that superhero storylines aren’t just confined to the pages of comic books or recent film adaptations. Within the span of two games they proved that players could fill the shoes of The Dark Knight while doing the source material justice. Their game worlds have been full of memorable villains and challenging missions while providing a main narrative that always seems to raise the stakes.  As the Caped Crusader swoops down on current generation consoles we set out to ask does his latest game complete the trilogy?Read More

PlayStation 4 COD: Black Ops III Beta Sets Record

Posted on August 31, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Activision announced today that the PS4 beta for Call of Duty: Black Ops III that ran from August 19th thru the 23rd enlisted millions of gamers to help stress test Treyarch’s latest FPS.  Black Ops III has set the record for the highest number of players playing a beta on the PlayStation Network according to a press release issued by Activison.

Rob Kostich a VP and Call of Duty general manager had this to say about the beta version of COD: Black Ops II:

“Becoming the biggest beta on PS4 speaks to the excitement felt by gamers and the quality of work by Treyarch.  And remember, this beta is just a fraction of the overall multiplayer experience and a portion of what’s coming on November 6 when the full game – spanning campaign, multiplayer and Zombies hits worldwide.”

PS4 owners weren’t the only ones enlisted to help test our Black Ops III– PC gamers and Xbox One owners got a chance to try out the same beta version as their Sony counter-parts this past weekend.

The full version of Call of Duty: Black Ops III will ship for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 6th. New features include specialists in multiplayer – preset characters who each have their own special ability that charges up over time and the inclusion of vertical movement and wall running.

Final Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Map Pack Out Sept 3rd

Posted on August 14, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Call of Duty fans on Windows PC and PlayStation 4 will finally be able to get their hands on the last map pack, Reckoning, for last year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on September 3rd Activision has announced. Combining four new multiplayer maps (see descriptions below) and a conclusion to the “Exo Zombies” mode originally introduced in the first DLC for Advanced Warfare this is sure to keep longtime fans glued to their screens until the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops III later this year.

Advanced Warfare’s Reckoning map pack includes the following maps according to Activision:

Overload:  With a grand view of downtown New Baghdad, the map’s multiple levels and long perimeter site-lines highlight medium to long-range combat.

Quarantine :  The speed picks up in this medium sized map with its tight corners and open areas.  The combination allows for any style of gameplay.

Fracture :  Search this map’s large combat areas, cradled on the shelf of a glacier, to take refuge behind wind turbines and heavy equipment.

Swarm : In this small to medium sized map, take position in war-scarred storefronts that provide plenty of cover over the streets of Seoul, South Korea, or flank the enemy through close quarter interiors in the centre of the map.

It was originally released on Xbox One earlier this month on August 4th and will cost $14.99 USD on all platforms.  Check out the trailer below.

Now that Tricky Pixels has ported the game to Sony’s latest platform and it is included in the 2015 Summer Play Sale now feels like the perfect time for me to take a Journey.Read More

Rise of the Tomb Raider Coming To PlayStation In Holiday 2016

Posted on July 23, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

As it turns out the console exclusivity deal for Crystal Dynamic’s Rise of the Tomb Raider is simply a timed exclusive deal, something neither publisher Square Enix or Microsoft mentioned during the games numerous appearances at E3 2014, Gamescom 2014 or this past E3.

In a press release issued this morning Square Enix confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released on Xbox One on November 10th this year, on Windows 10 PC / Steam sometime in early 2016 and finally on PlayStation 4 one year after the Xbox One version in Holiday 2016. Development duties for all versions is being handled by Crystal Dynamics.

In all honesty this kind of takes the wind right out of the word “exclusive” – sure we’ve seen other publishers, most notably Activision with time locked content in Destiny on PlayStation Platforms, lock away content for an unspecified amount of time. But this whole deal with Rise of the Tomb Raider is a bit different because Square & Microsoft failed to acknowledge that the game would ever come to other platforms although many in the industry expected that Rise would eventually make the jump.

Check out the E3 2014 trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider below. We’ll probably hear more about the game at Gamescom this August.

Here’s What To Expect From The Street Fighter V Beta

Posted on July 13, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Are you looking forward to Street Fighter V’s upcoming beta test? Depending on the region you reside in there are a number of different ways for you to get your hands on a portion of Capcom’s latest brawler before release.

If you live in North America, like I do, the easiest way to get access to the beta is by pre-ordering a copy of SFV through Amazon, Best Buy or GameStop. Beta codes for retailer specific pre-orders will be sent out next week on July 20th.

European PlayStation 4 owners have until July 15th to sign up for their beta. Those chosen to stress-test SFV will be sent a redeemable code via email on July 23rd.

Players in Asia will have to enter into a lottery of sorts to be selected. PlayStation Plus members have until tomorrow to snag the “Street Fighter V Closed Beta Ticket” to be entered into a chance to win access.

If you are wondering what will be included in the beta – six playable characters (four at start with Cammie and Birdie to be rolled out later on during the beta test).  In terms of stages players will be tossed into a training room known as “the grid” while waiting for a match to begin, once the match has begun you’ll be fighting in either the Bustling Streets, Terminal Station or Forgotten Waterfall arenas.

Beta testing begins on July 23rd for 5 consecutive days.

Horizon Zero Dawn Looks Absolutely Fantastic

Posted on June 18, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Guerilla Games has been pretty quiet about what shape their next PlayStation 4 exclusive would take. Two years after the release of Killzone: Shadowfall Guerilla took the wraps off of their latest project Horizon Zero Dawn during this week’s PlayStation Media Briefing at E3.  To say that this 7 minute debut trailer has me excited about the future of Sony’s latest platform would be doing Horizon a disservice, it is possibly the freshest new IP I’ve seen in years.Read More

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Heading To PS4

Posted on June 15, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix showcased a teaser trailer for the long awaited Final Fantasy 7 remake at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference. The teaser trailer talks about a world falling into ruin and a group of heroes returning. If that makes this title sound like a sequel, it’s not.. the crowd literally erupted in energetic applause that is hard to describe in words. This a game that people have waited almost 20 years to be remade

When the PlayStation 3 was announced in 2005 Square Enix showed off an impressive remake the train sequence from the original game and at the time it looked fantastic.

We know that the FF7 remake will be directed by Tetsuro Nomura and will be released in 2016 but no other details are currently available.

Check out the trailer below
