Ubisoft Has a New JRPG-Inspired Game in the Works

Posted on January 13, 2014 by Jason Nason

Ubisoft announced a new downloadable title was in the works back in September, and the game will be a JRPG inspired title. Child of Light centres around Aurora who, after falling ill, finds her soul transported from her home to the magical kingdom of Lemuria where the Black Queen had stolen the Sun, the Moon and the Stars.

Here is some of the details from the announcement:

Now that her soul is in Lemuria, Aurora must find the missing light sources and defeat the Black Queen to restore the kingdom. Guiding her through the darkness is a floating ball of light named Igniculus, who can be controlled by a second player. Aurora and Igniculus have entirely different playstyles. There will be places Igniculus can travel but Aurora cannot, in addition to their skills during battle. Aurora is the recognizable RPG standard – attacking and defending against enemies using magic and her massive sword – while Igniculus uses his light source to blind enemies and slow them down, directly heal comrades and collect orbs to restore the party member’s health and mana.

Take A Look Back At The PlayStation Start Up Sounds

Posted on December 2, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Our console’s start-up sound effects can easily become etched in our memories, you’ll probably hear the starting roar of your favorite console a few hundred times – if not more. To celebrate the recent European launch of the PlayStation 4 Sony has released a short montage featuring the starting sounds for all four of their home consoles from the last 18 years.

Hearing the PlayStation one boot up effect again reminds me of the closing days of ’98 where I worked my way through Resident Evil 2 slaying zombies for hours. I didn’t even own the game I’d just keep renting it over and over; my parents must have hated me. As for the PS2, this video reminds me of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as that game came out right when I was old enough to buy mature titles. I didn’t own a PS3 until Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of The Patriots came out in 2008.

Check out the video after the jump and share your memories in the comments section.Read More

Killzone: Shadowfall | Review

Posted on November 24, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Killzone Shadowfall, a launch title I could not have been more exited for. I was a huge fan of Killzone 2 and Killzone 3. Those games were a science fiction call of duty with a story that examined interesting themes like war and morality. It is a franchise that I believe is unfortunately overlooked by many gamers. Previous Killzone games offered a more rewarding game play experience both single and multiplayer then any other first person shooter title to date. However, a series cannot rest on the laurels of it’s past it must improve and innovate in order to stay relevant.  So how does Shadowfall fare? Read on and find out.Read More

With only two more days to go until the launch of the Xbox One, Call of Duty: Ghosts is already emerging as the leading next generation title at retail. Following the release of the new PlayStation 4 in North America on Friday, Call of Duty: Ghosts has quickly become the No. 1 selling title in retail sales on the new platform, as well as the No. 1 pre-reserved Xbox One title, at retailers Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart in North America.

“Call of Duty: Ghosts is the No. 1 best-selling game on PS4 in North America at Best Buy, GameStop, Target and Walmart, and also the No. 1 pre-ordered Xbox One title in North America at those retailers for launch,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc. “We couldn’t be more excited about the consumer response as we look forward to this Friday’s release of Xbox One. As we’ve said before, it’s a great time to be a gamer, and a great time for Call of Duty fans.”

PlayStation 4 Reaches Retail On November 15th

Posted on August 20, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Get ready because the PlayStation 4 launches in less than 90 days! Sony revealed at their GamesCom 2013 press conference that their latest home console will launch in North America on November 15th in North America, while gamers in Europe will have to wait two weeks for their consoles on November 29th.

Sony’s suggested retail price is $399 USD/CDN or 399 Euros, but I suspect that that price will skyrocket once units hit Ebay. If you haven’t already pre-ordered your console then you might be out of luck, as EB Games/GameStop ceased taking pre-orders some time ago.

That means, if you are reading this from Canada or the United States, you need to save approximately $4.45 every day until the console is released, or you know just pay the whole thing off in one lump sum.

We’ll have more on the PlayStation 4 as the system’s launch approaches.

The Elder Scrolls Online Headed To Xbox One & PS4

Posted on June 12, 2013 by Joshua Rust

Proof that developers and publisher still believe that MMO’s can work on consoles. Defiance has started off on a pretty good note, it lacks a little depth after putting in about 100+ hours but it’s still proof that they can work on a console.

So, nothing makes me happier to confirm that Bethesda is bringing The Elder Scrolls Online to both the Xbox One & Playstation 4 – targeted at a 2014 release date. Straying from the traditional single player formula, TESO looks like it could be the next World Of Warcraft. Question remains, can they keep the integrity of what makes the TES games so great and transfer that into an MMO? I say yes.

Released at E3 was a gameplay trailer, which you can view after the jump!Read More

PlayStation 4 Console Design Revealed

Posted on June 10, 2013 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sony Executive Andrew House took the stage just moments ago to announce the console design for the PlayStation 4. Gamers have been waiting since February to see the design of the console, which may sit under their televisions in just a few short months.

Honestly, my first reaction, is that the console looks like a beefed up PlayStation 2. This isn’t a bad thing, Sony asking us to call back to a time when they dominated the console market isn’t a bad thing, perhaps the PS4 will catapult them back to the front of pack.

Check out an up close screen grab of the PS4 hardware after the jump. Read More

Techland has their hands occupied it seems. With this weeks release of Call Of Juarez: Gunslinger on XBLA, PSN, & PC and the newly announced Hellraid, who would’ve thought that they had another game in the works?
