The Expendables 2 Videogame Available Now On XBLA, PSN and PC

Posted on August 18, 2012 by Les Major

Expendables 2 just hit theatres and to coincide with that release the video game is on XBLA, PSN and PC now too! Available for 1200MSP on XBLA or $14.99 for the PSN or PC version, the game features four playable characters from the movies roster. Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), Yin Yang (Jet Li), Gunner Jensen (Dolph Lundgren) and Hale Caesar (Terry Crews) are available for four player co-op. Featuring twin stick combat and vehicular combat sequences too.

Our own Eric Bastelak wasn’t too impressed with the game unfortunately in his review however for hardcore fans of the franchise you may want to check it out just for the story. The video game ends off where The Expendables 2 movie begins. The video game focuses on an adventure to rescue an extremely valuable, kidnapped billionaire.

I’m loving the return of classic action movies and it’s great to see a series with so many big names brought together like this! I’ll definitely be checking out the movie soon, and I’m sure at some point I’ll be giving the demo to The Expendables 2 videogame a whirl too.

Zombies Are Invading Counter-Strike: Global Offensive!

Posted on August 17, 2012 by Seung Lee

Valve has teamed up with a mod team over at PlagueFest, a community site that works on mods for games like Counter-Strike: Source and ArmA II, to create a zombie mod for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This content will be available on only the PC version of the game (99% sure here), and you won’t have to wait to test it out, because it’ll release on the same day as Global Offensive.

This certainly isn’t the first time that we’ve seen zombies in a first-person shooter. Treyarch’s recent Call of Duty games and ArmA II are the most popular  in the market right now. Will Global Offensive be able to match these games? We’ll have to see.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive releases on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac on August 21. Check out the game’s official website here.

Celebrate The Olympics With NBA 2K13

Posted on August 15, 2012 by Seung Lee

It’s the 20th anniversary of the USA’s “Dream Team” for the Basketball event at the Olympics, and 2K Games is celebrating by including the 1992 and 2012 teams in NBA 2K13. Jay-Z, the executive producer behind 2K13, states that he made the decision to have these two crews in the game so that people could settle “one of the greatest sports debates of our time.”

I’ve never heard people hype up the 2012 team, and probably for good reason. You just can’t compete against people like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Scottie Pippen. Although, Pippen appears to be absent in the featured image above with the 1992 team.

NBA 2K13 will be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PSP, PC, and Wii on October 2, 2012. Check out the game’s official website here.

Skylanders: Giants Chills Out With This New Character

Posted on August 15, 2012 by Joshua Rust

Activision has a monster on their hands. Skylanders are becoming as collectible as Pokemon. The original title boasted a lofty 32 different characters – 4 from each of the 8 elements. That doesn’t even include all the variants that are out there of these collectible video game characters. Skylanders are popular and they are selling like hotcakes!

With the announcement of the new game, Skylanders Giants, we all knew that both there would be even more new characters to come. Today, Toys For Bob and Activision have announced a new character that will join the fray: Chill. So just who is this new character? Check out the profile below to learn a bit more about her!

Element:  WATER
Character Type: New Skylander
Bio:  Chill was the sworn guardian and personal protector of the Snow Queen.  As captain of the queen’s guard, her many heroic deeds had earned her the respect of the entire Ice Kingdom.  But when the Cyclops army began to expand their empire into the northern realms, the Snow Queen was taken prisoner during her watch, and Chill has never forgiven herself for letting it happen.  Ashamed and embarrassed, she left the Ice Kingdom behind and swore never to return until she could reclaim her honor.  Now as a member of the Skylanders, she remains courageous and strong, while always on the lookout for her lost queen.

Sleeping Dogs Won’t Be So Sleepy With Six Months Of DLC

Posted on August 13, 2012 by Seung Lee

It’s a recent business practice that I can’t stand: creating “new” content for purchase immediately after a game releases. Capcom has been guilty of doing this for a while (see Street Fighter x Tekken), and now Square-Enix is going to join in on the trend. Sleeping Dogs will have six months of planned DLC, which is already frustrating to hear.

I can appreciate wanting to extend the lifespan of your game, but not when the DLC in question seems to consist of nothing but clothing packs and weapon packs. You can expect a number of downloads for Sleeping Dogs, such as a Retro Triad Pack that features a “killer old school outfit with its own player buffs and funky kung-fu van.” Then, in September, there’ll be a high-speed Racing Pack and a SWAT Pack. So, the DLC seems to be somewhat cosmetic and unimpressive for those who simply want to play the game. I suppose if you really enjoy Sleeping Dogs, that you might want to check this DLC out, depending on how much it costs.

See Square-Enix’s press release on the matter by reading more.

Assassin’s Creed III For PC Will Be Stalking Templars Nov 20th

Posted on August 13, 2012 by Les Major

Ubisoft has confirmed there will be a PC release of Assassin’s Creed III in addition to it’s other versions. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are set for a Halloween release of October 31st with the Wii U version following up as a release title for Nintendo’s new console. The PC version will be released November 20th.

Set against the backdrop of the American Revolution in the late 18th  century, Assassin’s Creed III introduces a new hero, Ratohnhaké:ton,  of Native American and English heritage. Adopting the name Connor, he becomes the new voice for justice in the ancient war between the  Assassins and Templars. The game stars Connor as an Assassin in the war for  liberty against ruthless tyranny in the most stylized and fluid combat experiences in the franchise to date.

With an all new game engine and fresh animations not only does it sound like ACIII will be a smoother experience but the American Revolution backdrop looks fantastic with the more we see of the game. Including such amazing new features as naval warfare the sequel is living up to the expectations of improving the franchise with each new release.

Here’s Some New Details About Scourge: Outbreak

Posted on August 6, 2012 by Seung Lee

ScourgeOutbreak

If you don’t know what exactly Scourge: Outbreak is, I don’t blame you. I had no clue that it existed until I read an article about it. Scourge: Outbreak is a third-person shooter from a development team called Tragnarion Studios, and it’s being released on the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Mac. The release date for it hasn’t been announced yet, but lead game designer Omar Salleh has unveiled some new screenshots and details on co-op today. Salleh’s blog post at the European PlayStation blog site revealed that his team’s upcoming game should be out in the next few months. He also went on to talk about being excited to see how players will enjoy the co-op mode.

Medal Of Honor: Warfighter And Linkin Park Team Up

Posted on August 4, 2012 by Seung Lee

MoH

Okay, so maybe it’s not exactly Linkin Park, but Mike Shinoda, the man behind the popular band (and Fort Minor, a hip-hop side project), is composing the music for Electronic Arts’s upcoming game, Medal of Honor: Warfighter. This isn’t the first time that Shinoda has composed for others, however. He was behind The Raid: Redemption‘s soundtrack, which wasn’t too bad, if I do say so myself. EA’s main competitior, Activision, has called on Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails to compose Call of Duty: Black Ops II‘s theme song, and he wrote the tracks for the films, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network.

In addition, Danger Close, the developer of Warfighter, and Digital Domain, a special effects studio, collaborated on a music video for Linkin Park’s song, Castle of Glass, from its recent Living Things album. The video will be finished in October, and it’ll mix live action footage with gameplay from the new Medal of Honor.

Black Ops II

It’s that time of the year again. We’re talking about the thing that many people end up buying Call of Duty games for: multiplayer. The official Call of Duty Twitter account has tweeted that Treyarch’s new futuristic shooter, Black Ops II, will finally reveal some gameplay footage of its multiplayer, on August 7. Expect a ton of speculation on the upcoming teaser, and plenty of hate comments from hardcore Battlefield fans.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is set to release on November 13, 2012, for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. For more info, visit the Call of Duty Twitter account here, and see the game’s official website at http://www.callofduty.com/blackops2/.

The Book of Unwritten Tales: Review

Posted on July 31, 2012 by Matthew Regier

In the humble year of 2009 a little known German company, King Art, went forth on the great task of breathing fresh air into what has otherwise been a stale and stagnated genre of fantasy adventure. The journey was long, dark, and difficult. Undergoing deep research on  the tropes that brought stagnation into the genre itself. This time however, it the adventure genre is as refreshing as can possibly be. The Book of Unwritten Tales is a stimulating look at the fantasy adventure genre that gives the player a great story which is thick with parody that will give any fan of anything remotely fantasy sore sides from the quick witted and well placed humour within this fantastic title.

“The Book of Unwritten Tales” itself is a title that, despite it being a really great sounding name, will have you scratching your head. How could you possibly have a book of unwritten tales? This itself is part of the tone that the game offers; a high fantasy story that relishes in many of the tropes made by previous titles anywhere from movies, literature, and even other adventure games. Ranging from Star Wars to Kings Quest. Anything you can possibly imagine and there will be some sort of subtle allusion to it hidden somewhere amongst the 60 unique locations and 40 colourful non-playable characters within the deep, rich world that has been created to explore.

Resonance Review

Posted on July 26, 2012 by Seung Lee

Resonance

I’m indifferent, actually, towards point-and-click adventure games and visual novels. But, if it has a great story, likable characters, and lots of humor, I’ll at least try it. That being said, Resonance has to be one of the best point-and-click games I’ve ever played. It ranks up there with the Ace Attorney series (my favorite video game series), Monkey Island series, and Sam & Max series.

Resonance has you playing as four main characters: Tolstoy “Ed” Eddings, Anna Castellanos, Raymond Abbot, and Officer Winston Bennet. Ed is a mathematician who works for a physicist named Dr. Javier Morales. He struggles to make ends meet, and he seems to have the strength of an ant. Anna is a doctor and daughter of Morales, Ed’s boss. She has frequent dreams (more like nightmares) throughout the game where she’s a child running away from a monster. Raymond (Ray for short) is an established journalist who’s looking for a big scoop. Officer Bennet is a cop who’s not afraid to break some rules in order to find the truth.

Meet the Mechromancer In Borderlands 2

Posted on July 23, 2012 by Seung Lee

Mechromancer

The fine folks over at Gearbox Software have been diligently working on Borderlands 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year (for me anyway). Thanks to their hard work, Borderlands 2 has just gone into certification for release. Now, while the on-disc content may be finished, that doesn’t mean that the downloadable content isn’t. The Mechromancer class is just one of the many pieces of extra content that players can expect in the future.

I know what you might be thinking right now: “Why are the developers already thinking about DLC? Why can’t they just include this stuff on the disc?” Well, no need to fret, the Mechromancer will be available for download when it’s out, for the low, low cost of absolutely free. Those who pre-order Borderlands 2 will receive the class about 60-90 days after the initial release. When the Mechromancer will be available for those who don’t pre-order the game is still unknown. It’s refreshing to see a company actually be generous enough to give its customers extra content for free when it has no obligation to do so.
