After getting messaged by a friend on steam on how to clear out card info, I wondered to myself, “what the heck is going on?” I looked over onto SteamDB’s Twitter to see that “Valve is having caching issues allowing users to view things such as account information of other users. Don’t use Store for now.” To my dismay, and possibly the ire of thousands of PC gamers, people are unable to make Steam purchases as all the store pages are just currently cashed versions. People on twitter are reporting that they are seeing other people’s cached pages due to this issue and is a possible security risk for users. It’s been suggested to avoid the store completely for now.
Here’s hoping Valve can fix this before too long
Update:
Valve has taken the Steam Store offline and users are unable to purchase anything.
The website SteamDB has suggested via Twitter that the issue with random accounts and storefronts showing up may be related to problems with Valve’s caching servers.
Here are some of the details Steam DB shared:
The following post appeared on the Steam Forums by a moderator acknowledging that Valve is aware of the issue:
Earlier this year at E3 Microsoft announced that both Killer Instinct and Gears of War: Ultimate would be making the jump from the Xbox One to Windows PC. Since then PC gamers have been waiting to find out when they can dig into these currently Xbox One exclusive titles.
One fan in particular, @brycethatoneguy on twitter, took to the social media platform to ask Xbox Boss Phil Spencer exactly when we can expect these games on Windows 10. Spencer’s response? They haven’t announced dates but both games are expected “won’t be too far into 2016”.
Here’s the full tweet from Phil Spencer, which you can use to trace back to the full conversation:
Are you excited for either Gears of War: Ultimate or Killer Instinct on Windows 10? There have been 3 DLC “seasons” of Killer Instinct that have brought a total of 22 combatants into the arena – 9 from Season 1, 9 from Season 2 and currently 4 from Season 3. Gears of War: Ultimate is of course a remastered version of the Xbox 360 2006 original with enhanced graphics and new content.
Warner Bros Interactive has issued a brand new patch for the Windows PC for Batman: Arkham Knight. This new patch restores the advanced rain & weather effects that were present in the PlayStation 4 version of the game but struggled to run on some PC configurations. Another important update is the improvement of target prioritization – I can’t tell you how many times I had Batman just rolling around, having difficulty deciding his next target.
Arkham Knight had a very rocky launch on PC this past June which included the suspension of sales of the game for several months while RockSteady and Warner Bros Interactive worked out all of the Kinks. Although the game does not have SLI / Cross-Fire support there have been a number of improvements made in the past few months (We also found that AMD Crimson drivers also helped performance somewhat.)
We reviewed the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight this past August and found the game to be quite enjoyable.
Here are the full patch notes via Steam’s announcements section:
Fixed some issues with stars being awarded or lost incorrectly in specific AR Challenges
Improved target prioritization during combat
Restored heavier rain during the opening section of the game
Fixed missing rain effects on a few remaining player character skins
Miscellaneous gameplay fixes and stability improvements
Fixes to some keyboard and mouse prompts after being rebound
Made frame times more consistent for 60hz monitors running at 30fps with VSync enabled
Previously equipped gadgets can be selected with keyboard and mouse again after restarting an AR Challenge
Fixed the default key binding for Harley’s Snare gadget
Batgirl’s Remote Hacking Device can now be properly selected with keyboard & mouse in AR Challenges
Minor performance optimizations for certain combinations of hardware
Fixed keyboard & mouse controls that did not function in DLC AR Challenges when no previous save data existed
Quick Photo Mode can now be triggered with keyboard and mouse controls when using the Batmobile
Special Combo Takedowns can now be performed with Quickfire Gadget binds if they were rebound
Fixed graphical corruption that may occur after Alt-Tabbing
Improvements and corrections to some localized text
Added new Classic Harley Quinn skin for use in AR Challenges & the Harley Quinn Story Pack
Added Arkham Knight as a playable character for AR Challenges & the Red Hood Story Pack
Fans of Capcom’s upcoming fifth installment of the Street Fighter franchise will have an additional choice when it comes to platforms to play on. No, this newly approaching challenger isn’t Microsoft’s Xbox One but rather Valve’s own Steam OS.
You might have missed this news since it was buried in the official announcements section of the Steam community for Street Fighter V. Not only will the game becoming to the fledgling OS but it will also support the Steam Controller as well. Users who have pre-ordered the game on Steam can try out the next beta from December 18th through the 20th.
Here’s the full announcement:
Hey everyone. I’m excited to announce that Street Fighter V will be officially supporting Steam OS! We are working closely with Valve on this endeavor, and will have more details to announce in the near future, so stay tuned for updates.
Street Fighter V will also support the Steam controller, and you’ll be able to try that out right away during the upcoming beta test that takes place from December 18~20.
Do you remember Turok: The Dinosaur Hunter for the Nintendo 64? If you’re younger than 25 I’d not considering the original version was released nearly 20 years ago in 1996! Despite its age there is a high of enough demand that a Windows PC port is launching on Steam nearly two decades after the game hit store shelves.
Developer Night Dive Studio is handling the translation to modern operating systems. Turok: Remastered won’t just include cleaned up textures and various Steam features but also the removal of the once infamous “pea soup” fog that plagued the original games. Due to the hardware limitations of the Nintendo 64 the original games had quite the poor draw distance.
Turok: Remastered includes content from the 1996 original as well as the sequel 1998’s Turok: Seeds of Evil. It is also available for purchase via GOG and the Humble Store.
If you’re in the mood to shoot some undead monsters in the face, then this weekend’s Steam Deal might just the thing for you.
Killing Floor 2 is free to play until Sunday afternoon. This means anyone who meets the minimum requirements and doesn’t mind a 10GB download then you can get in on the co-operative Zed killing action with the wave of new players this free weekend will bring.
If you’re more of a solo FPS players than Bethesda’s discount on the entire DOOM franchise might be of more interest. Almost every entry in the series – except for the upcoming 2016 reboot- has been discounted. Honestly the price difference between DOOM 3 standard and DOOM 3 BFG, which includes the Lost Mission Expansion, is less than $1 USD. If you’re going to go for anything DOOM related, that’d be my pick.
Here’s a full breakdown of all this weekend’s Steam Deals:
Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide for the PC from developer Fatshark is the newest entry in to the ever growing lore chest that is Games Workshop games. This one takes us for the first time in modern gaming in to the Warhammer Fantasy realm. Its a realm of Dwarves, Wizards, Elves, Humans and Greenskins, rather than Eldar, Orks, Humans, and Chaos. That doesn’t mean there isint any crazy stuff going on, indeed this is a world in as the title suggests “the end times”. Rat like Skaven have overrun the city you play in and its up to you and team of three other heroes to drive them up and prevent the end times.
It has to be said, this game is very much Warhammer Left 4 Dead. The mechanics aren’t the same, this is a First person weapon combat games (swords and sorcery) left 4 dead is a shooter. The game itself suffer from no issue I was able to find in my playtime, and perhaps most importantly it has a ton of depth that i Left 4 dead lacks. The game has a semblance of a crafting system, a fairly deep engaging loot system that involves rolling dice. The loot system feels exciting even if it is mostly just random chance. There are items to collect for each class and three trinket unlock slots for as you level up. The forge system requires raw materials that can be collected and broken down from various weapons and other things in game. All right back to those Skaven, remember them? Rat like humanoid creatures that want to mess up your day? You the player must select from one of the 5 unique classes (waywatcher, witchhunter, dwarf, wizard, soldier) and take to one of the games 13 levels to beat back the (literal) vermintide. There is no central plot in the game, rather the developers have opted to use a hub and spoke configuration, where there is a central inn where crafting is done, missions are selected and parties are created, the party then deploys to the selected mission. Although to start off there are only a handful of missions to play, as you level up more unlock, and each has 5 difficulty levels to play if you really start to feel bored. Each level feels unique, with beautiful set pieces pulled right from Warhammer Fantasy battles. The massive Gothic town you battle in and around has a living breathing feel to it, with metal, wood, and stone that befit the motif of a fantasy battles city. I really cant say enough about how well atmosphere is done in this game, its always sort of dim, the lighting makes if feel perfectly at home in the fantasy world, and the Gothic touches really take it over the top.
Previously released on the Playstation 4 in September, indie game Zombie Vikings from Swedish developer Zoink Games is being released on Monday, December 7th for Steam. You read that headline right, good ole Dwarf Fortress is getting an update. After starting a Patreon and raising over 4,000$ a month, developer Bay 12 games has delivered on their promise. The first of what I assume will be many releases is now live, and it features a few new things as well as all the classic Dwarf Fortress goodness, and of course its still free.
The launch announcement does not mince words, it states: “The flow of fortress life is quite a bit different now—specific breaks and parties have been replaced by taverns and performances and needs and inebriation. You can designate a tavern, temple or library from a meeting area zone, bedroom or dining room using the new Assign Location option. The location list (‘l’) will let you know what sort of furniture and items you need, and you can set tavern keepers, scribes and other occupations there as well. You’ll need to set up a drink stockpile and a chest for goblets in taverns for drink service to work properly, but dwarves can still drink without a tavern as before. You can assign multiple rooms/zones to a single location.”
There’s a whole bunch more content in this update as well, new materials, new crafting, and some new intresting social stuff revolving around the tavern. Dwarves can now get drunk, pass out, and even die from drinking. So basically they added frat houses, ok maybe thats too mean, but this is certinly an interesting thing to add to a crafting a building game. Is a drunk dwarf still able to build? Harvest resources? I have no idea! Going to have to head over to http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ to find out, good luck if you never played before because this game is deeeeep.
New features on a game that was released almost 10 years ago is something we don’t often see, and unless I am much mistaken this method of using Patreons month to month support model to fund a game that has been “infinidev” for almost 10 years is a first. I cant say I dislike it, but based simply on how much they are getting, if they dont keep pooping out content I fear the masses may get restless and the end result not be too pretty.
Ubisoft has given the GO command on both the Rainbow Six Siege open beta and the game’s launch trailer. Titled ‘the breach’ this brand new one minute trailer – narrated by a British special forces member – outlining some of the emotions members of the Rainbow team might feel when participating in one of the game’s multiplayer-centric matches.
Rainbow Siege’s open multiplayer beta went live this weekend – featuring 14 different operators and three different maps – on all major platforms (Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Windows PC). The open beta was delayed by two hours on Friday and is scheduled to close tomorrow night before the final game becomes available via retail and digital distribution on December 1st.
For more Rainbow Siege coverage check out our full coverage of the game’s closed beta from earlier this fall.
Microsoft has already made it extremely clear that in Windows 10 you can play your Xbox games. It now seems Sony will follow suit with the PS4. I myself have experienced the majesty of game streaming while sitting at my on computer. Sony, while late to the party, it seems is finally joining in. Shuhei Yoshida said today on twitter
“Some people asked if we plan to provide Remote Play function to PC, and yes, we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac. :D”. This is particularly awkward after at least on competitor announced last week they would be releasing a third party tool which would be doing the same thing.
If its like the Xbox version of streaming we can expect to see it working with low-latency, and not very much by way of extra features. The majority of my time with Xbox streaming has been spent on the high intensity multiplayer of Halo 5, and I can say I really was surprised, there is no latency, the games perform well, and I can frag just as well as I could sitting in front of the console. Full disclosure this is with a Netgear nighthawk and both the streaming console and PC hardwired. Hopefully Sonys addition of console to PC streaming will re-invograte my play on my PS4 which is currently just gathering dust.
It’s starting to happen and I can slowly feel it: even though I know there’s better games out there, much less in my PlayStation 4 collection, alone, I find myself coming back to Fallout 4 every single time. There are days where, in spite of the fact that there is an autosave and dedicated saving features, I simply refuse to turn the game off. These are all signs that this game has its hooks in me, hardcore: kind of like McDonald’s, you know there’s better food out there and you’d enjoy it much, much more, you find yourself hankering for their food every so often in spite of that. This game’s like a drug. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing, or not, because I’m still scared of doing certain things due to glitches that haven’t been addressed, but I keep going anyway.
“This Gun is the Best Gun Ever.”
So, I have to admit that building settlements and modifying weapons and armor are probably two of the best parts of this game, mostly because the materials, weapons, and armor you find out on your own are… how to put this… crap. However, though, in being rather obsessive about collecting legendary weapons and armor, I’ve been able to find and modify my daily drivers: a legendary shotgun whose bullets explode on impact, doing 15 points of AOE damage, modified to the point where it’s doing 139 base damage, has a fire rate of 181, a range of 53, and accuracy of 42, meaning this bad boy can tear up a close range battle in no time, flat; a legendary sniper rifle that boosts base damage by 25%, with a base damage of 102, a fire rate of 3, a range of 197, and an accuracy of 98, meaning unprotected and unwary enemies may be dead before they even see me; and, finally, almost a full set – I’m only missing the right arm piece – of Heavy Combat Armor modified to be deep pocketed and have the BOS paint for added radiation protection. I’ve gotten rather crazy about my modifications and, as perks allow, things will only get better. I mean, I can even use this shotgun in long range situations as each bearing in the shotgun shell explodes on impact, meaning that even if you miss by a fairly large margin, you would still do some nice damage, especially if there’s explosive barrels in the vicinity. I am blowing through the game now and taking names now that I’ve modded that shotgun.
Blizzard has flagged for a huge number of accounts for this weekend’s Overwatch Beta Test Weekend. Luckily, I have had access to the beta for the past few weeks and I wanted to share what you can look forward to.
Back To Dinosaur Island, a short little program meant to show off the CryEngine with the use of VR devices, can be downloaded on steam for free.Read More
So, here we are: I’ve had this game for a full week and even the acquisition of NHL 16 hasn’t slowed progress any… that’s saying a lot because I’m a humongous hockey fan. It’s been a long time and the path through the Commonwealth has been fraught with small victories and huge losses and while Fallout 4‘s improvements made themselves apparent right away, a lot of the franchise staples have made themselves apparent as I, finally, start to embrace the main quest line that the game has set out in front of me.
