Tomodachi Life | Review

Posted on June 13, 2014 by Jason Nason

Tomodochi Life is a quirky relationship simulation game featuring Miis. You can create just about anyone you want as a Mii, or import friends and celebrities, and then watch as their lives unfold. It’s a simple concept, but has a lot of fun and funny results.

The game is not a traditional role-paying game where you don’t control the characters first hand. You can help influence their decisions, give them gifts and feed them, but you aren’t in control of them. If you’ve ever played The Sims then you’ll know sort of what to expect, though this game isn’t nearly as intricate or complex.

The first thing that you do in the game is create your first Mii character. If you already have one saved on your 3DS you can quickly import him or her. After a quick run at filling out your characters full name, birthdate and personality type, you can set your character’s voice and move into the Mii Apartments on the island. This will be the first building. Half of the fun in the game is seeing how the Miis interact, so you should add another one or ten. The more people there are the more there is for them to do.

Nintendo’s New Way to Play: amiibo

Posted on June 13, 2014 by Jason Nason

Nintendo unveiled new NFC figures today at their E3 event, which are a little like the Skylanders and Disney Infinity series of figurines. You can import the characters into your game and build their stats. This isn’t really anything new for sure, but the fact that Nintendo plans to make the figures compatible with multiple titles that are in development is.

The figures are being called amiibo. aMiibo, get it?

The interactive figures will have the ability to communicate with multiple specially designed games by just touching them to the Wii U GamePad controller. Nintendo plans to release first series of amiibo this year alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Not A New Doki Doki Panic, But We’re Getting Closer

Posted on June 10, 2014 by Les Major

I would LOVE a new Super Mario Bros. 2 USA version (Doki Doki Panic) game. The content in NES Remix 2 that allowed you to pick up blocks as Toad in both Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Kirby’s Adventure brought back so many good memories. Shy Guy and Birdo are both still around even! Now, in the latest title Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Wii-U that spins off from Super Mario 3D World, you can even pluck turnips to throw at enemies? I’m in love! Mario Maker Brings My Childhood Dreams To Life

Posted on June 10, 2014 by Les Major

Odds are, at some point we’ve ALL wanted to do this. In 2015, you’ll be able to create your own Super Mario Bros. levels on the Wii U console. I remember (back in my day *waves cane like Cranky Kong*) putting in Game Genie codes just to see what kind of scrambled up, randomized Mario levels I could discover. Now Nintendo is giving me the power to do that on my own? YES PLEASE! Read on for the trailer! Just look at what you can do!Read More

Why Nintendo is Winning the Video Game War

Posted on June 1, 2014 by Jason Nason

Sure, Nintendo may be clearly losing the battle in this video game generation, but they have already won the war. Nintendo is victorious and they will be for a generation to come.

Why?

Because when your grow up and want to look back at the nostalgia of playing the games of your youth, you will have no trouble firing up a Nintendo console. But try to turn on an Xbox of PlayStation and you may just be out of luck.

Recently I updated my Xbox 360. I turned it on and was greeted with an “update or else” message, stating that if I didn’t update my system I couldn’t connect to Xbox Live or use any online features. So I allowed the system to update and upon reboot it stopped funtioning. I was greeted with an error seek service message in about every known language and the familiar green glow of the power button instead showed red. Furious red.

Nintendo Patent Infringement Case Dismissed

Posted on May 20, 2014 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced on Monday that the company has won a patent infringement case in a U.S. District Court in Texas. The case was brought in February 2009 by Wall Wireless, LLC, which claimed that the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems infringed a patent. Wall Wireless is a company whose primary business is enforcing patents. The court dismissed the case on May 19th, 2014, after the United States Patent and Trademark Office canceled all the patent claims Wall Wireless was relying on in its case.

This dismissal follows a decision by the Japanese Patent Office, which also found that Nintendo’s products do not infringe Wall’s Japanese patents.

“We are very pleased to see the U.S. case dismissed, and also to have the Japanese Patent Office confirm that Nintendo does not infringe Wall’s Japanese patents,” said Richard Medway, Nintendo of America’s vice president and deputy general counsel. “Nintendo vigorously defends patent lawsuits and other proceedings when we believe we have not infringed another party’s patents. It does not matter where such cases are filed or if it takes more than five years to vindicate our position. Nintendo continues to develop unique and innovative products while respecting the intellectual property rights of others.”
