I’ve decided to split this off from the regular weekly Nintendo Download to give a little more of a deep dive into each newly added item to the eShop sales list. So what’s been on sale previously will have the same list you remember, but new entries will also have more detail at the top of the page.

Today, Activision announced that two all-new standalone Nintendo SuperCharged Combo Packs for Skylanders Superchargers for the Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS.
Last year, Activision joined up with Nintendo to release exclusive Skylanders for their latest game Superchargers. The team up brought Donkey Kong and Bowser to Skylanders Superchargers as guest stars. These special characters were previously only available with the starter pack of the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS games so if you didn’t want to buy one of each you were out of luck.

I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. Today we’re taking a look at what it’s like to play Nintendo’s latest exploration JRPG!

Ninndo and Namco’s collaborative Pokemon themed fighting game, Pokken Tournament will be receiving its own official controller manufactured by long peripheral company Hori. The controller is based upon the arcade cabinet’s button layout and was previously announced for release in Japan.
If you want to get your hands on the official Pokken Tournament Controller you won’t have to look in any tall grass – they are available for pre order on Amazon for $25 USD. Currently they have a ship date of March 18th 2016, which has been confirmed as the Japanese release date for the game, no solid date for a North American release currently exists outside of a vague “Q2 2016” window.
Pokken Tournament was originally released in Japanese arcades in July of this year.
As we’re closing in on the end of one year and getting ready to start the next, a lot of people are reflecting on the year that’s past and others are looking at the year to come. I’m one of those looking to the future and I’ll tell you why: 2016 and the coming years after are going to be an extremely exciting time for games. While gaming has always been a longtime passion of mine, I do have to admit that it has felt like, in the last couple generations, innovation and creativity had been been steadily decreasing while market saturation has been steadily increasing. It wasn’t looking good as the market was looking stale and things weren’t change. Sure, there were gimmicks that came and went but nothing really stuck. There were few real surprises and the things that jumped aboard the hype train were mostly games we’d been anticipating and asking for, for years. There was a lot of vaporware, a lot of E3s that came and went that left us wanting more and spending more time laughing at the flaws than celebrating the wonders. In my honest opinion, the fifth generation was the last generation that truly brought us wonders we never thought we’d see possible and all the last couple generations did was expand on that. We never saw anything truly groundbreaking and that’s part of why 2016 is going to be an exciting year: we are going to see a lot of broken ground and whether or not it will be truly successful, we finally see companies going out and taking risks and those are the kinds of moves that change gaming for the better. Follow the jump for our preview of the year to come and what to watch for!
Mojang’s smash hit about your struggle to survive the night all while hissing snake creatures try to blow up your home, Minecraft, has already cracked the top ten all time downloads in the Japanese Wii U E Shop.
According to the all time download purchase rankings available on the Nintendo Japan website Microsoft’s latest acquisition already sits among such system sellers as Super Mario Maker, Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 and classics like Super Mario World. Perhaps Minecraft players can fashion themselves a ladder to get their favorite game even higher on the charts.
Here’s the full breakdown of the top ten best selling digital Wii U games of all time in Japan as of today:
Nintendo has unveiled the most popular games as measured via traffic on their Miiverse social media website / Wii U application. This year didn’t feature the two big marquee releases for Wii U – Star Fox: Zero and The Legend of Zelda Wii U, as both of those games got delayed into 2016. However, it was strong year nonetheless for both platforms with releases including the surprise hit Splatoon, the ever inventive Mario Maker, monsters causing mayhem in Monster Hunter 5 on Nintendo 3DS among other great titles.
So which games made the top 3 per platform? I won’t leave you in suspense… according to Nintendo the top 3 choices according to fans on Miiverse where:
Wii U
Splatoon
Super Mario Maker
Xenoblade Chrincles X
3DS
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D
The Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Did any of these top six games surprise you? For me, it’s not shocking to see Xenoblade in the top 3 for Wii U even though the game has only been out for under two weeks. Fans have been anticipating its release ever since it was revealed several E3s ago. I also really enjoyed the fresh kicks that Splatoon introduced over the summer – with its focus on team based objectives rather than traditional KDR it was a refreshing take on the established Team Death Match formula. Now that I think about it, my family ended up purchasing almost all of these games…

The Pokemon Company will be bringing the series’ popular gyms into the real world with the establishment of a real life Pokémon Gym in Osaka, Japan starting on November 19th. This education experience aimed at children will allow them to learn Pokémon training tips, collect in-game rewards for participating. Visitors to the Gym can even have a conversation with a Pokémon, although I am not quite sure how that would work!
There are some really cool images of the exhibit over at Inside Games, who first reported on the new exhibit. These images include a very large life-like Charizard. All of the text in the source article is in Japanese, so be prepared for that!
This Pokemon Gym is quite different from the ones in any of the main series titles, such as 2013’s Pokemon X & Y. There are no trainers to battle and as far as I can tell no badges to collect. Trainers looking for an experience closer to the journeys featured in the games might want to consider either Nintendo’s Pokemon Leagues or Official Tournaments. Leagues allow trainers to complete Gym Challenges by meeting up weekly with other trainers in their area. Official Tournaments are of course reserved for larger events like New York Comic Con.
