September’s My Nintendo Rewards

Posted on September 4, 2016 by Jason Nason

You know, I’m just not sold on the benefits of My Nintendo. Sure there are some nice little things here and there, but on a whole I’m having a lot of trouble spending my coins. Not only on platinum and Miitomo coins, but also the gold coins. The rewards that you get for cashing in those coins really doesn’t seem worth it.

This is coming as someone who is a huge Nintendo fan. I’m all about Nintendo and if you’ve ever seen my posts here or anywhere else it’s quite apparent. But is there anything new and exciting from My Nintendo that peaks my interest? Sadly, no.

What do you want most from Nintendo’s rewards system? If you said new, unique, or cool stuff then we’re in agreement.

Seeing double: Pair of Yo-Kai Watch games coming in Sepember

Posted on September 3, 2016 by Jason Nason

The first Yo-Kai Watch game was fantastic. I got my hands on a copy right away and immediately fell in love with the game. It was quirky, fun, and unique, and filled with so much detail and depth that there was just so much to do. And beyond that the world that was designed had so much detail that the exploration of the city and countryside, which was so much a part of the game, was fun to do.

The sequels to that game, and yes I did use the plural of the word, are set to hit the Nintendo 3DS later this month. Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls arrive on September 30th.

In the new adventure you’ll travel to the past to witness the origin of the Yo-kai Watch and put an end to an age-old war between two Yo-kai factions! You will discover the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero, which gives players two new tactics that make for more strategic battles.

New title Tank Troopers coming to 3DS in Winter 2016

Posted on September 3, 2016 by Jason Nason

In a game that feels reminicent of the GameCube title Battalion Wars, Nintendo announced a new digital exclusive title called Tank Troopers on Thursday during their Nintendo Direct.

This newly announced game lets players customize their tank through special characteristics of tank-pilot Troopers, enabling abilities such as hitting enemies with a freeze attack, launching paint balls to block the opponents’ views or using electric shocks to stall rival tanks where they stand.

The game will offer a six-person multiplayer mode, along with Download Play as well.

New 30th Anniversary Legend of Zelda amiibo on the way

Posted on September 3, 2016 by Jason Nason

The Legend of Zelda is kind of a big deal. But if you’re here you already know that.

During the Nintendo Direct on Thursday Nintendo announced some news about The Legend of Zelda. Not only is the newest game, Breath of the Wild, set for release on the Wii U and NX in March, but The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, previously released on the Wii console, launches for the Virtual Console service today in Nintendo eShop for Wii U. Plus we were reminded that the original game that launched the Zelda franchise will be included when the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition launches on November 11th.

But for the 30th Anniversary of the franchise we’re also getting some celebratory new amiibo.

This holiday season Nintendo will release four special amiibo figures: 8-Bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link and a two-pack that includes both Toon Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. These amiibo will work the same as Super Smash Bros. series Link, Toon Link and Zelda amiibo, and will also have special functionality in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it launches next year.

The amiibo will be released on December 2nd.

Mario Party Star Rush changes up the party

Posted on September 3, 2016 by Jason Nason

Mario Party Star Rush is set to change the rules in the Mario Party series when it arrives on the Nintendo 3DS in November. Gone is the slow, turn-based gameplay and in is a fast paced, all out action fest.

You’ll have to think fast and have a blast with the variety of ways to party with Mario, Toad and the rest of the Mario gang. Mario Party Star Rush will feature seven modes, including Toad Scramble, a mode with open maps to push your strategy, fast-paced mini-game gantlet Coinathon. There is also Mario Shuffle, in which players maneuver three pieces to their opponent’s side of the board.

In Toad Scramble, everyone plays as a Toad, but Mushroom Kingdom allies are waiting around the board to team up and take down bosses in mini-games. The game is also compatible with the Super Mario series amiibo figures.

Yoshi’s Woolly World threads onto the 3DS in 2017

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

In one of two announcements of Wii U games making their way to 3DS, Yoshi’s Woolly World is coming to the portable platform with a new experience.

Called Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World, this version of the gorgeous Wii U game contains some new features, plus every stage available in the original.

The new and exclusive new stages focus on Poochy. Players must time Poochy’s jump to collect beads, and Poochy Pups as they head for the goal. Poochy Pups are curious little helpers who jump on suspicious spots to indicate where players should look for secrets and collectibles.

Nintendo and Japanese stop-motion animation studio Dwarf are collaborating on 30 animated shorts featuring Yoshi and Poochy that will be included in the Nintendo 3DS version of the game.

A new yarn amiibo figure of Poochy will launch at the same time as the game when it is released on February 3rd, 2017.

Super Mario Maker coming to 3DS

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

In one of two Wii U to 3DS conversions announced today, Nintendo is making a bite sized version of Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS!

Now Nintendo 3DS owners will have access to a near-unlimited wealth of Super Mario courses to play! Players can also create courses with nearly all the tools available in the original Wii U version, along with interactive lessons.

In a feature unique to the Nintendo 3DS version, friends who each have their own game and system can collaborate on level designs by sharing them with one another locally before they’re complete. While courses can’t be shared online, players can connect to the internet to download and play select courses from the Wii U version.

Additionally, the game includes 100 Nintendo-designed courses with new challenges, like collecting every coin or defeating all enemies.

Mario Sports Superstars coming to 3DS in Spring 2017

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced a new Mario Sports title headed to the 3DS next year in Mario Sports Superstars. I’ll be honest. I’m cautiously optimistic on this one.

The last true entry to have Mario and company in the sports world was Mario Tennis for the Wii U, but my last experience in a multi-sports title on Nintendo’s portable was the recently released Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Sure the game was a lot of fun, but some of the limitations in character selection left a sour taste in my mouth.

I’m hoping those past missteps aren’t repeated here.

Pikmin game for 3DS coming in 2017

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

Pikmin was one of those odd little games when it was first released for the GameCube but has gained something of a cult following. To be honest I’ve never played a full run through of any games in the series, though I’ve watched plenty of playthrough.

And I did get to see and play the Pikmin attraction in NintendoLand.

The series has been a mainstay on their home consoles, now Nintendo has announced that the franchise is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in 2017. The game, which has yet to be given a permanent name, is a new side-scrolling adventure game unlike Pikmin games of the past.

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Jason Nason

Before the launch of Splatoon, Nintendo launched a short demo called Testfire. The demo allowed gamers to give the essential Splatoon multiplayer a go prior to the release of the game. The timed demo worked only for a short period. Testfire, the Splatoon demo, is back.

From August 25th thru August 28th between the hours of 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM ET each day, anyone with a Nintendo Wii U console can download the free demo for the Splatoon in Nintendo eShop. This Summer Splatdown event, as it’s being called, gives anyone who hasn’t played the game yet a chance to play Splatoon and experience its inktastic multiplayer gameplay.

All you have to do is download the demo and launch the Splatoon Testfire demo during the designated hours to fight it out in Turf War battles. The fun fun multiplayer mode pits you and three other players against an opposing team of four to cover the most territory possible with colorful ink. It’s one of the core modes of Splatoon and is the perfect introduction to what the game has to offer.
