Shantae Half Genie Hero Coming To Vita, PS4 and Wii U Next Week

Posted on December 11, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

WayForward’s long running Shantae series gets a brand new entry with Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and Nintendo Wii U on December 20th in both digital and physical flavors.

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is WayForward’s fourth entry featuring their purple haired protagonist. For the first time in the series history Half-Genie Hero features HD graphics while maintaining the color art-style that helped previous games stand out. If you’ve come to love Shantae’s particular flavor of transformation enhanced action combat this latest title looks like it will be worth the wait.

Gameplay wise Half-Genie Hero retains the transformation enhanced combat seen in other titles with eight different forms available at our heroine’s disposal. Her basic attack, the hair-whip, is also still in-tact but this time with an HD coat of paint. WayForward gives the completionist in all of us a reason to explore levels that have already been completed – thanks to the 8 different forms that Shantae can use, levels hold a number of unlockable items, secrets and easter-eggs that can’t be found on the first play through. Levels finish off with large boss encounters that will hopefully test the reflexes and pattern recognition ability of players of all skill levels.

Want to see the game in action? Check out four PlayStation 4 launch screenshots below, an image of the physical Wii U version and launch trailer for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero.

Animal Crossing amiibo just $5 at Walmart in Canada

Posted on December 10, 2016 by Jason Nason

Okay so the Animal Crossing amiibo haven’t been a huge success when it comes to the rest of Nintendo’s figures. Part of that is likely due to the lackluster reception of last year’s Animal Crossing amiibo Festival and the resulting over-saturation and under-selling of the figures.

But if you haven’t completed your collection of amiibo of the Animal Crossing nature, and you live in Canada, now is your time.

Walmart Canada is now selling Animal Crossing amiibo for just $5.00! There are only a small selection of the amiibo available on the Walmart website, but if you’ve been to a brick-and-mortar store recently then you know there are lots of finds to be had. It’s unclear if the Village amiibo is included in this sale as, while it is an Animal Crossing character, it’s from the Super Smash Bros. line. It’s also assumed that the three packs of amiibo (

Below is a checklist of the available Animal Crossing amiibo so help you complete your collection. The sale runs through January 4th, 2017.

Miitomo updated to version 2.1

Posted on December 10, 2016 by Jason Nason

On Thursday morning Nintendo rolled out a minor update to Miitomo, with the update going live at 6:00 AM Eastern time. The update brings the application to version 2.1 and introduces a few new features to the game.

With version 2.1 you can now share what your Sidekick Mii characters think. It’s not just your main Mii who can answer questions anymore and your Sidekick Mii characters can too. To be honest I never really got around to creating a sidekick me, but maybe I should get around to that now. I’ll have to be sure to give them plenty of personality.

Super Mario Run Marketing Machine Kicks Into Gear

Posted on December 9, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The portly plumber will make his debut on a non-Nintendo mobile platform with the release of Super Mario Run on Apple’s iOS platform next Thursday, December 15th. With the game less than a week away Nintendo’s marketing machine is now in high gear – here are the latest developments.

Super Mario Run looks and feels like other entries in the New Super Mario Bros series on WiiU / Wii and 3DS with bright and colorful graphics, as well as the staple Goombas and Koopas we’ve come to expect. Unlike other Mario titles, however, Super Mario Run is designed to be played with just one hand. The plumber will run on his own towards the goal with the player allowing him to jump in varying degrees using a touch of their finger.

Players will be able to take on three different modes in the initial launch version of Super Mario Run. There’s the traditional World Tour mode which will guide Nintendo’s mascot through a series of themed worlds like Ghost Houses, lush forests and even Bowser’s castle. There’s also an online vs. Mode which allows players to challenge friend’s ghost data to win the admiration of a crowd of Toads! Finally there is Kingdom mode which allows Mario to build up the mushroom kingdom using coins he has collected and unlock new playable characters.

Want to see each of these three modes in action? Check out the debut trailer below:

If you want to play Super Mario Run ahead of the game’s December 15th release, a special demo version is now playable at all Apple Stores across North America.

Also, if you missed the special appearance of Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie on the Jimmie Fallon show, it is definitely worth the watch. Not only does Jimmy fan boy out over the appearance of Miyamoto in the front of the audience but he’s also the first person in the world to publicly play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch!

More Pokémon coming soon to Pokémon GO

Posted on December 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

There are about to be more catchable Pokémon in Niantic and Nintendo’s mobile game Pokémon GO soon.

The official Pokémon Twitter channel sent out a brief tweet today announcing that “More Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO!” The tweet went on to tease the date of December 12th for more information.

There is some speculation of what the new Pokémon will be, with the assumption that it will be the second generation Pokémon coming to the game. While that is the most likely assumption, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the new Pokémon from Nintendo’s newest 3DS games Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon might not be in the mix.

It would certainly be a miss not to use this release to cross promote between the two Pokémon games.

Brand New Zelda Amiibo Will Drop Fish From The Sky In Breath of the Wild

Posted on December 3, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s brand new The Legend of Zelda 30th anniversary amiibos will allow Link to procure items from the sky in next year’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If you ever thought that what The Legend of Zelda series needed was a delivery of fish from the sky, boy are you in luck. This is the sort of random and WTF kind of fun nonsense that I wish Nintendo indulged in just a little bit more.

Today saw the launch of four brand new amiibo on store shelves – 8 Bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link and Toon Link + Toon Zelda as a two pack.

Here are the unlockables that will drop from the skies of Hyrule once you’ve used any of the four new amibo with Breath of the Wild:

  • “Ocarina  of Time Link will reward you with a random amount of meat.
  • 8-bit  Link will reward you with a random number of barrels. You might find rupees inside too!
  • Toon  Link will reward you with a random amount of fish.
  • Wind Waker Zelda will reward you with a random selection of plants.”

No description of fish, rupees and barrels falling from the skies would be complete without some animated gifs of the new amiibo in action. Thankfully Nintendo’s official Twitter account is here to oblige:

Posted on November 30, 2016 by Jason Nason

Niantic announced today that they have rolled out their revamped nearby Pokémon feature for Pokémon GO to the rest of the continental United States and large parts of Europe today. The roll out includes the rest of Canada as well.

The new nearby Pokémon feature now includes the nearest PokéStop to the Pokémon, and zooms in to show more detail when tapped. You can also tap on the tracks on this screen and the game shifts to an overhead map briefly to show you approximately where you can find the Pokémon. The map then reverts to the normal view, however a marker is now visible on the map.

Retail release Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo pushed back

Posted on November 30, 2016 by Jason Nason

For those who didn’t pick up Animal Crossing: New Leaf before and are waiting for the updated retail release Welcome amiibo to hit stores, you may have to wait just a bit longer.

Originally scheduled to be released on Friday, December 2nd, Nintendo.com now lists the release date just shy of a week later on December 8th. The move could possibly be to spread out Nintendo’s releases, with Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS also releasing on Friday.

For those who aren’t picky about getting a physical copy of the game, the game can still be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop, and the free update which adds all of the new updates (version 1.4) has been live in the eShop since last month. As well, the Player’s Choice edition of the original release should still be in stores and can also be updated via the eShop.
