During the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas, Nintendo announced a dual pack of the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon games for the Nintendo 3DS. The Dual Pack will be available this fall in the Americas.

Nintendo released some new screens for their upcoming RPG Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is being developed by Monolith Software Inc.
In the game you’ll explore an endless ocean of clouds, where the last remnants of civilization live on the backs of colossal beasts called Titans. Experience the story of Rex and his new friend, Pyra, a mysterious being known as a Blade who grants him tremendous power. Together, search for Pyra’s long lost home Elysium, the ultimate paradise for all of humanity.
The game you’ll explore colossal beasts called Titans, the homes of different civilizations, each offering expansive regions to discover. Form powerful bonds with Blades, unique beings granting tremendous power to their users, called Drivers. The game features a deep battle system that builds on triumphs of the Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X games.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is scheduled to be released on the Nintendo Switch this holiday season.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle – A mysterious vortex has torn apart the Mushroom Kingdom, transporting the chaotic Rabbids into this once-peaceful land. To restore order, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Yoshi must team up with a whole new crew: four Rabbids heroes! Together, they will battle with weapons through four worlds filled with combat, puzzles and unpredictable enemies. The Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle game will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch console on Aug. 29.
Nintendo revealed today at Gamescom that their upcoming Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system will include a Rewind feature.
The feature will let players rewind their gameplay to retry tricky sections, pick up missed items or simply run through an area again to see if anything was missed.
The rewind time depends on the kind of game though. Players can go back a few minutes in role-playing games such as Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, while action titles such as Super Mario World offer around 40 seconds, ideal for re-trying short segments of gameplay.
The system also comes with optional frames that can be wrapped around the on-screen display for each game.
The system is also now available for pre-order from many retailers including EB Games. The system retails for $99.99 CAD. It will be available on September 29th.

Starting today customers in the United States and Canada are able to use their PayPal accounts to purchase digital games and content for the Nintendo Switch, both on the system and in the Game Store on the Nintendo website. This way to pay joins the current payment methods of credit cards or Nintendo eShop Cards.
When purchasing content, you’ll see a new PayPal payment option at checkout. The first time you select this option, you will be asked to link your PayPal account with your Nintendo Account via your PC or smart device. Once you complete this step, you’ll be able to use your PayPal account as a payment option for future purchases.
While you can’t use PayPal directly from the eShops on the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, linking your accounts will also allow you to use PayPal as a payment option on the Nintendo website when purchasing content for the Wii U and 3DS.
The country setting of a user’s Nintendo Account must match the country setting of their PayPal account and of course users must be 18 or older to link their PayPal account with a Nintendo Account.

Since the beginning of story telling, tales have been told about brave warriors combating and defeating the forces of evil. From Greek myths to comic book heroes, the concept of heroes banding together has been done in many different ways, inspiring the audience’s imagination and creating fantasies of themselves as one of those brave heroes. As video games grew and matured as a medium, people could now go from simply hearing, seeing or reading stories of brave heroes to playing the brave hero and feeling closer and closer to that feeling of saving the world from evil. Now, it is up to you to create and cast the warriors and even the great evil with your Miis with Nintendo’s newest game, Miitopia.
Miitopia is all about the fun of putting your friends or favorite characters from fiction into the roles of the damsels, kings and warriors and seeing them all interact. Are you mad at someone at work or school? Let them take the role of the Dark Lord and let out your aggression through your Mii. Want to see if your one true pairing from your favorite TV show will make it? This game allows you to play it out and see if a relationship build. This game’s main appeal is its whimsical, humorous atmosphere and customization. I spent hours amused doing quests for some of my favorite actors, characters and friends and seeing how my friend’s Miis interacted. It is charming, cute and endearing and a great use of the Mii system. I also enjoyed seeing how creative the Miis on the Mii network were. Some were sculpted beautifully and really represented their character well. It also makes interesting use of amiibos by allowing for different items to customize your Mii character with. If you have your Tomodachi save files, you can also transfer character data to this game.
The actual gameplay of Miitopia is simple enough. You obtain a quest, watch your character walk through different locations and if you encounter an enemy sent by the Dark Lord you must defeat them in a turn based style combat. Your goal is to rescue innocent people’s faces from the Dark Lord and return the world to how it was before the Dark Lord caused mischief. It is simple to learn and very light hearted. Your relationship with your fellow party members affects the battle in different ways as well. If you are fighting with a party member, they might inconvenience you out of spite and the better your relationship with your party, the more bonuses you get and the more help they offer. You build these relationships in battle, on the road through random events or at the inns you find where you can also eat and buy new gear.
This is also the issue with Miitopia. It is very repetitive and can get a little tiresome after the first few hours. The ability to learn other classes and abilities keeps the game from being so boring I wanted to stop, but there still is not much to the actual gameplay. Unless you like customization and the novelty of seeing an avatar of your friends or favorite characters in funny situations, this game probably will not have enough to keep you interested for long. The abilities aren’t any more unique from other RPGs and the story is not very nuanced or original either.
Overall, this is a whimsical game with a lot of fun to offer as far as customization and silly situations, but beyond that, there is not much more to it. Have some laughs, see if you can make your favorite characters fall in love and defeat the evil Dark Lord, if this sounds appealing then you will want to pick this game up, but maybe wait for a sale.
When I write these ‘Impressions’ posts about upcoming games they’re almost always based on a pre-release demo edition of a game. They’re meant to be somewhat of a preview of the game as usually demos give you a taste of the gameplay and mechanics so you’ll know what to expect going into a game. More than just watching some gameplay online it’s a way to get a hands on with the game.
Rarely am I as impressed with a game based on a demo as I am with Monster Hunter Stories. This game is beatutiful.

Severed – From the creators of the Guacamelee! Game and inspired by classic dungeon crawlers, Severed puts players in the role of a one-armed warrior named Sasha who wields a living sword on her journey through a nightmarish world in search of her family.
Splatfests were one of the many highlights from the first Splatoon and I was really happy to hear that they’d be making their return for the sequel. This past weekend Splatoon 2’s first [thing] vs. [another thing0] competition took place – asking players to chose sides based upon their favorite condiment, either Ketchup or Mayo.
Upon logging into the game your lobby is instantly transformed into neon infused night variant complete with a performance by brand new Squid idols – Marina and Pearl. The aesthetics aren’t the only thing that changes in the lobby as the background music gets bumped up a notch to celebrate the coming condiment combat.
My first couple of matches pitted me against Team Mayo (I chose Ketchup, naturally, as it goes on everything from fries to burgers) but then the matchmaker started to get a little wonky. Suddenly I found myself getting matched against a lot more Ketchup players than Mayo ones and for the majority of the remainder of the Splatfest this is how things stayed. I’m not sure if this is because of a population disparity – with more Inklings choosing to side for the internet favorite, Maria – or things simply being broken on Nintendo’s end.
The actual combat of the two days I spent playing Splatfest were pretty solid. Matchmaking issues and matchmaking disconnections aside I spent most of the time dying or covering enemy space in Turf War. Combat in Splatoon 2 is fast paced and since the rounds are only three minutes each time has to cover as much space with ink as possible. My weapons of choice? Ink Roller if I’m going for coverage or the brand new Splat Dualies if I want to play Splatoon 2 more like a modern shooter – complete with dodge. My absolute favorite part of combat during the Splatfest had to have been using the new Jetpack power-up. I don’t know what it is but there is something deeply satisfying about hovering in the air and dropping ink bombs on the opposing team.
Each side in the condiment conflict tried to win over undecided kids & skids with some really excellent drawings. Some featured Pearl and Marina representing their respective sides while others used characters from other games, like Sans from Undertale, to push their topping choice to victory. Perhaps the strangest batch of player made art are the occasional Fury rooting for either side – although that while thing is another story.
At the end of it all Mayo came out on top, even if during my several hours of play I saw more Ketchup players (and Ketchup vs. Ketchup match-ups) than members of Team Mayo. Here’s hoping Nintendo works on the backend stability and is able to reduce the same side match-ups and disconnections that can occur while the matchmaker is looking for available players.
The last Splatfest was two weeks ago on July 15th and the original game had a tendency to hold at least two Splatfests a month for the first year and a half of that title’s life. We’ve got a lot more team base rivalries to settle on the streets of Inkopolis – Perhaps Nintendo could rekindled the friendly rivalries between themselves and SEGA before Splatfests in the sequel go dry?
Fire Emblem Heroes has been updated to version 1.6.0 today and the update comes with some changes, improvements, and additions to Nintendo’s mobile game.

Starting with the Summoning Focus: Cecilia & Lilina’s Battle event beginning August 7th at 3:00 pm ET, all sumoning events will allow players to perform their first summon without having to use any Orbs.
I’ve never really played Pikmin before. While I’ve played the Pikmin level from Nintendoland and I have played the demo for Pikmin 3 on the Wii U, I haven’t sat down and started up a game of Pikmin from the beginning before. Luckily there is no prerequisite experience necessary for Hey! Pikmin, the spinoff title for the Nintendo 3DS. Like many Nintendo pieces the game is a stand alone tale and you don’t need to have played any games in the series before.
After crash landing on this new planet Olimar is tasked with the seemingly insurmountable task of collecting 30,000 units of Sparklium in order to fuel up his space ship and escape the planet. Luckily there are also Pikmin on this planet which he can use to help him reach his goal. Pikmin are tiny, curious, plant-like creatures. They come in different colors and types, each with different strengths and weaknesses, but they all seem eager to help Captain Olimar.
