Nintendo Switch OS V4.0 Adds Video Capture For Select Titles

Posted on October 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The latest firmware update for Nintendo Switch is here, bringing our home menus to version 4.0 but also adding a feature that has been missing since launch: the ability to capture video clips. Switch now supports 30-second video clip capture via the capture button on the right JoyCon for select titles, unfortunately not all games are supported right now.

Here is Nintendo’s official description of the new video capture feature:

“To capture video in compatible games, hold down the capture button during gameplay. This will create a video clip of the last 30 seconds. You can then view the saved videos in your album, trim the beginning and end of each clip, and post videos to your Facebook page and Twitter feed.

Currently, you can use this feature in the following games:

  • The Legend of Zelda™: Breath of the Wild (version 1.3.0 and later)
  • Mario Kart™ 8 Deluxe (version 1.3.0 and later)
  • ARMS™ (version 3.1.0 and later)
  • Splatoon™ 2 (version 1.1.1 and later)”

Preloading select games from the Nintendo E-Shop is also supported with Nintendo Switch OS V4.0. Owners with a preference for digital titles might look forward to a speedy unlock of Super Mario Odyssey when that releases later this month. Speaking of Odyssey, Nintendo added new Player Portrait options based on both Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey with this latest update.

Hand of Fate 2 Coming To PS4 and Xbox One On November 7th

Posted on October 5, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Defiant Development has penciled in a release date of November 7th for their action RPG sequel Hand of Fate 2 PS4, Xbox One and PC. Today’s release date announcement came with three brand new screenshots, confirmation of Xbox One X 4K support and the reveal of the game’s final non-playable companion.

Ariadne of Stiegal is the 4th and final companion to be revealed for Hand of Fate 2. She is a melee tank character who has exclusive perks for the “meta board game”, unique dialogue options and her own storyline to explore.

Players of Hand of Fate 2 will have to best challenges constructed from a deck of cards wielded by the returning antagonist “The Dealer”. Combining collectible card game elements, action RPG combat and storylines with optional dialogue paths, Hand of Fate 2 takes elements across a number of genres and fuses them together into a single unique package.

Director of Defiant Development, Morgan Jaffit, had this to say about Hand of Fate 2’s Fall release:

“The team has been keeping our heads down working on the game, and now that we’re nearly done, I can safely say this marks a new chapter in the level of quality we can achieve. I’m incredibly proud of this group and can’t wait to show their work to the world.”

One To Watch: Gear.Club Unlimited On Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 27, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Previously mobile only racing title Gear.Club will be hitting the breaks on mobile exclusivity with the release of Gear.Club Unlimited on the Nintendo Switch this December. This past week the developers at Eden Games revealed the full lineup of 30 real-world cars that will be featured in this updated port.

Featuring cars from famous manufacturers like BMW, Ford, Mercedes, and Nissan – Gear.Club is unique in terms of its realism on Nintendo’s latest console. It might not feature the 100s of makes & models like the Sony’s Gran Turismo franchise but when the closest competition on the Switch involves go karts firing turtle shells, 30 different real-world vehicles is plenty.

I’ve been playing the iOS version of Gear.Club out of curiosity in anticipation of the December switch release. In terms of the moment to moment racing action Gear.Club doesn’t disappoint – handling corners and narrowly passing the competition to clinch the top spot in a race is rather exciting. Due to the nature of the F2P model the phone version of Gear.Club does indeed involve waiting for timers and Gold Stars that racers must grind to progress. I’m holding out hope that the up-front cost of Gear.Club on Switch will mean that the micro-transactions and cash shop will be stripped away in favor of a more traditional console content unlock model.

Nintendo Switch has quickly proven itself to be a welcoming home for indie & smaller titles alike. Here’s hoping that racing fans rev up their excitement for Gear.Club Unlimited as its Winter release date approaches in a few months’ time.

Here are the latest screenshots & the full car lineup from the devs:

Square surprises with Octopath Traveller for Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 17, 2017 by Jason Nason

So I was caught caught off guard with the announcement of a title that wasn’t on my radar but has quickly caught my attention. That game is a brand new RPG offering from the fine folks at Square Enix called Project Octopath Traveler (working title).

The game is being developed by the producers of Bravely Default at Square Enix and is a new RPG brought to life through a mixture of CG, pixel art and visual wizardry. Project Octopath Traveler launches worldwide in 2018. But there is already a free demo for the game in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

Man I need to get my hands on a Nintendo Switch, pronto!

In the game you’ll embark on a vast new role-playing adventure as one of eight travelers, all with their own origins, paths, and goals.

The producers of the Bravely series at Square Enix have brought a new world to life through a mix of CG, pixel art, and “HD-2D” visuals. Embark on a vast new role-playing adventure as one of eight travelers, all with their own origins, paths, and goals. Where to begin? Who to team up with? Where to go next? Only you can decide.

Each traveler can use a distinct Path Action, a specialized way of achieving objectives and interacting with people you encounter. The warrior can “challenge” people to a duel, whereas the dancer can “allure” others to follow her, even into battle! Enjoy the freedom to choose your own path while experiencing the story through the role you play. Combat revolves around the Boost system, a fusion of traditional turn-based battling and modern enhancements. Each turn, build up BP that can be spent to dramatically increase your strength or provide aid. Identifying when to Boost may just be the key to victory.

In the already released demo you choose the path of the dancer, Primrose, or of the warrior, Olberic, and set off on an adventure all your own in this free demo from Square Enix. After you’re done playing, take a survey to let the development team know your thoughts.

The roles you play, the places you go, and the people you join are up to you.

Project Octopath Traveler launches worldwide on the Nintendo Switch in 2018.

Sine Mora EX Has A Date With The Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sine Mora EX – the beautiful 2.5D shoot’em up co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Digital Reality makes a pass at the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe thanks to THQ Nordic. In this sometimes-brutal bullet hell title, players guide a three-dimensional ship along the X and Y axis while avoiding the sea of oncoming bullets. Complimenting the vibrant art style is a unique health mechanic where each stage has an allotted amount of time – taking damage speeds up the countdown while routing enemies adds time back to the countdown clock.

Several enhancements have been made when compared with the 2012 original for the Nintendo Switch release including support for 16:9 resolutions, full English voice over, an improved rendering engine and 3 brand new versus modes – race, tanks, and dodgeball. Also new to Sine Mora EX is the ability for two players to take on the story mode at the same time!

Sine Mora EX will fly by the Nintendo Switch on September 26th in North America and October 10th in Europe. It was originally released in 2012 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with an iOS & Android port following in 2013. The Switch release of EX will be joined by a release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well.
