Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games | Review

Posted on March 25, 2016 by Jason Nason

Did you ever have something in a game that really rubs you the wrong way and no matter what you do you can’t get passed it? It scan be a small thing, which isn’t even that big of a deal. But it just angers you every time you think of it?

I had that with Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for the Nintendo 3DS. It’s not a big thing and by no mean breaks the game. I’ll get to exactly what that is later on in the review. (If you follow me on Miiverse you’ll already know what it is.) It certainly doesn’t run the game, but it did lower my final score.

Aside from the above, I loved this game. The number of events included is extensive, the control options are varied, and the single player mode is actually quite fun.

Parascientific Escape: Cruise in the Distant Seas | Review

Posted on March 16, 2016 by Jason Nason

Parascientific Escape: Cruise in the Distant Seas is a visual novel with exploration and puzzle solving elements.

The game follows Hitomi Akeneno, a 16 year old high school student with a little secret – she has not one, but two psychic powers. After receiving an invitation, she boards a luxury cruise ship with her friend, Chisono Shio. As soon as she enters a suite room, a loud explosion sounds … and she finds herself stuck, unable to get out. Is this an accident? Or something far more sinister? The only way to find out is to escape, with the help of her powers.

This game reminds me a lot of the Ace Atorney games, with a lot of the conversation as well as textploration of environments.

Nintendo 3DS System Updated to Version 10.7.0-32U

Posted on March 14, 2016 by Jason Nason

It’s been just a few weeks since the last system update, but the Nintendo 3DS firmware has been updated again. This is a very minor update which updates the 3DS system from version 10.6.0-31U to version 10.7.0-32U.

There aren’t any big changes in this update, with the only text on the update the very same as last month’s update. The text from Nintendo as follows:

“Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”

The update is required in order to continue using Nintendo Badge Arcade and likely several other online games for the 3DS. Upon trying to load the free-to-start app on my 3DS I was prompted to update my system and could not launch the game.

Sadame | Review

Posted on March 8, 2016 by Jason Nason

When describing this game to a friend I told him that the game feels like playing Double Dragon, but set in Feudal Japan. While that’s not completely accurate, it does lend to the way that the game feels when you play it. Aside from the fact that the game isn’t a two-player co-op, the game does have a single player “multiplayer” aspect which has some fun to it.

In SADAME one hundred years have passed since the Onin War. Havoc struck the heart of the holy city of Kyoto and the world flooded with evil spirits from the mountains and rivers. This land of Kawanakajima, surrounded by two large rivers, was once known for its fertile soil and praised in many folk songs. But now this land is poisoned, and the people are barely holding on as they live each day in fear of demons and the undead. In the midst of all this, a single traveler comes to Kawanakajima.

Solitaire Meets Horse Racing in Pocket Card Jockey

Posted on March 7, 2016 by Jason Nason

I’m a sucker for neat little niche games, and have always enjoyed card games. So when Nintendo tossed out the news that Pocket Card Jockey was coming to North America, I had a huge smile on my face.

The game has been developed by Game Freak, a name you should know if you’ve played any Pokémon game ever. They’re only the developers of those games. Since developing the first Pokémon game they’ve been behind every game in the main series since then, including upcoming Sun and Moon.

Pocket Card Jockey was released in Japan as a mobile game which has since been retired. It was released for the Nintendo 3DS in the Japanese eShop on July 31st, 2013! We’re just getting it now and I’m actually pretty excited.
