Neptunia VIIR Is Going To Nep You All Up On PS4 / PS4 Pro Today

Posted on May 8, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Idea Factory International and Compile Heart revisit Neptunia’s first 8th generation adventure, 2016’s Hyperdiemnsion Neptunia VII, with an enhanced remake, Hyperdimension Neptunia VIIR on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. An enhanced remake of the 2016, VIIR features a brand new battle system that returns some of the staples introduced way back in Hyper Dimenson Neptunia MK II, as well as sporting a brand new VR enhanced extra mode.

Small VR inspired vignettes that take place in “the player’s room” have well.. you, the player, interact with various Neptunia characters in small scripted sequences that take place outside of the main narrative. Without getting way too meta, players can customize their room with different accessories and cosmetic items to try and win the favor of their series favorites.

In terms of the story Neptunia VIIR retells the same narrative as the 2016 release, so if you’d like a quite distilled version of that tale, I’d highly recommend my review of the 2016 original on the PlayStation 4.

As the game’s title implies, Neptunia VIIR also brings support for the PlayStation VR headset during the “player room” sections. IFI International provided me with a review code ahead of the game’s release and my full impressions of this enhanced remake sometime next week.

Until then here is a bullet point list of new features provided by IFI PR and the latest batch of screenshots.

Report: Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1 Coming To PS4

Posted on February 6, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

A preview of the upcoming issue of Dengeki Magazine spotted by the folks at Siliconera reveaks that Compile Heart’s remake of the 2009 Hyperdimension Neptunia will be coming to the PS4 with enhanced features under the moniker of “Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth Plus”.

No word yet on exactly what these enhancements will be – most notably the game might get some graphical upgrades, such as available on the PC version. This is especially truely when compared to the original PS Vita release of Re:Birth which ran at 540p – the PlayStation 4 could probably run Re:Birth 1 at 1080p without breaking a sweat.

I reviewed Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth 1 way back in September 2014. Here’s a snippit of that review:

“If you’ve beaten all three of the console releases Rebirth1 is still strongly recommended due to the changed story, guild system and remaster options that extend the amount of gameplay. Don’t expect to beat Neptunia on your ride to work, this is definitely a game that requires a substantial time investment.”

What Is The Upcoming Steam JRPG Trillion Anyway?

Posted on August 15, 2016 by Les Major

Trillion is an Idea Factory title in which you power up to take on Trillion, the god of destruction! Sounds nice, happy and to the point doesn’t it? Trillion seemingly gets his name from the 1,000,000,000,000 hit points he has. Hopefully he’s max level so he doesn’t need to change his name. It must have been weird for Trillion growing up. “Who are you?” “I’m Twenty-Four!” “Oh, that’s a shame because my sword has a DPS of twenty five!” We don’t need to worry about that though since Trillion has all those juicy hit points at level 1. Ahem, joking aside, what IS this game? Let’s find out!

First off it should be noted that unlike some Vita ports, which is what Trillion is, the game contains both English and Japanese voiced dialogue. So any of you out there who enjoy dubbed audio in your JRPG’s, you should still have that here. I can’t imagine that not surviving the port to Steam.

Trillion at level 1

Unlike the cute Moe girls you’re used to from Idea Factory, Trillion takes on quite a Disgaea vibe which is something that stood out to me from the start. Instead of being like Hyperdimension Neptunia however, there seems to be a more tile based combat system in Trillion. When you move the enemies get to move. I’ve only looked at YouTube videos so far, but we do hope to get some hands on experience closer to the Steam release. As you can see in the image below, this specific combat focuses on Mokujin, a Trillion training dummy. He’s able to summon monsters and do some pretty devastating area of attack moves that show up both on your map in the upper left and on the actual level display as well. So you do have some warning of these big moves as well as time to avoid them. You can fight Mokujin every cycle, which works out to a week. In your main menu you’ll see the next coming of Trillion which the game counts down to in weeks.

Trillion battle setup

That isn’t the only way to power up. A mode called Valley of Swords gives players a rogue-like dungeon to explore and fight enemies in. If anything it reminds me quite a bit of NIS’ game The Guided Fate Ultimatum. With Trillion baring down on the world however, you’re probably not going to be able to stop him the first time. Cool thing is, after your game over new game plus carries over your character progression. So it is really a neat concept. Grind away, fight back against Trillion, rinse, repeat.

We’ll be taking a further look into Trillion soon, but for now take a look at the trailer below.

Also, some of the screens in this article are from BlueMaxima’s Vita Channel. If you’d like to look deeper into Trillion right now, feel free to watch his video here:

Broken Deals: A Bunch of Idea Factory International Games Are On Sale!

Posted on November 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Idea Factory International’s titles like the Hyperdimension Neptunia series as well as the various Visual Novel and Japanese roleplaying games that they tend to localize for the west.

We’ve covered some of these games extensively and now Retroism has the all three Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth (remake) titles on sale for a ridiculously low price for the next 24 hrs.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 1:

Base game for $5.99 USD
Rebirth 1 DLC Pack for $1.18 USD

Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2:

Base game for $5.99 USD
Rebirth 2 DLC Pack for $0.99

Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 3:

Base game for $11.99 USD
Rebirth 3 DLC for $0.39 USD

Amnesia Memories:
Base game – $2.99

All of these games are redeemable on Steam and playable on Windows. If you are into visual novels or self-referential JRPG titles I highly recommend you give these games a try! At 6 bucks they are well worth the asking price – especially that price on Amnesia, considering the game was released just a couple of months ago.

Broken Deals is a regular series of posts where Broken Joysticks editors feature deals from around the web for our readers. This post was in no way sponsored by the game’s developer, the site selling the software or the game’s publisher.

Impressions: Why I Stopped Playing Omega Quintet

Posted on May 6, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

I absolutely love a lot of Idea Factory International’s gaming properties and have been a fan of their work for the past 5 years ever since I imported a copy of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia for the PS3 back in 2009 due to the North American print of the game being quite limited. Unfortunately their latest title Omega Quintet left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to put the game down and I haven’t picked it up since.Read More

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory | Review

Posted on September 8, 2013 by Les Major

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is the third in the series but was story friendly enough for me to be able to dive in and enjoy the game, even with it being my first adventure in this universe. The game feels like a hybrid between a visual novel and a JRPG. Not in the sense that you’re trying to date anyone, but more so the fact that there is just so much character interaction involved in the game; you do feel like you’re watching a visual novel, rather than playing a typical JRPG.Read More
