New Kingdom Hearts III Trailer Still Lacks Release Date

Posted on June 11, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix released a brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III almost a full four years after it was originally revealed at E3 2013. My original headline about the game’s announcement so many years ago told readers that “no you’re not dreaming, Kingdom Hearts 3 has been announced” and now this latest trailer opens with “Don’t assume your dreams are just fantasy” – for the entire series fan base and enthusiast press playing KH III has been relegated to the realm of dream or fantasy since the title has yet to appear at a major industry convention or conference in anything but pre-rendered trailer footage.

As for the details about what’s going on in this trailer… well, I haven’t the slightest gosh darn clue. My wife and I are slowly playing through the series and I’ve still got three games left (Dream Drop Distance, Birth By Sleep, 2.8 Prologue) before I am completely caught up. So far the series plot (to me) is slightly disjointed but still enjoyable, if not a little off the wall.

If you want to see pretty visuals of Sora pulling off cool combo moves, Pete and Maleficent rendered in crisp PS4 HD and for the first time four party members active at once – watch the trailer below.

While there’s no release date the end of this trailer, Square Enix does promise the reveal of a brand new world and another new trailer at D23 this coming July.

Come on Square – can we have a release date now? Don’t let our dreams be dreams and give us a release date.. JUST DO IT

Guardian, It Is Time To Get Excited About Destiny 2

Posted on May 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Destiny 2 had its big reveal at a media event in Los Angeles yesterday with a live streamed keynote presentation that included brand new details for the game, our first look at the game’s single player mission and a few small teases at what to expect from what will surely be one of this Falls’ most anticipated first person shooters. Media who attended the event were also able to capture raw gameplay footage from the PC build of the game, which will be released after an unspecified embargo date.

Watch The First In-Game Campaign Missions:

Known In-Game Locations:

  • European Dead Zone which is the new settlement of the Guardians after the first campaign mission ‘Welcome Home’.
  • One of the moons of Saturn, Titan will be featured in the campaign. After the collapse of earth’s colonies, this once bustling metropolis now exists among the sea of methane.
  • The robotic Vex from the first title return, now occupying Planetoid Nessus where players will encounter Cayde-6.
  • Sacred to the Warlocks is a moon of Jupiter which was one of the last places the technologically advanced traveler visited before the great collapse. Players will encounter Ikora within this location in the campaign.
  • Each of the four planets that are included in Destiny 2 won’t just be destinations to do patrols or other open world missions. All four of them will include towns, quests, NPCS and pieces of lore that will give guardians even more reasons to explore.

Weapons

  • Two new weapon types: Grenade Launchers and Chainguns.
  • Kinetic, Energy and Power weapon slots replace the first title’s Primary, Secondary and Heavy weapon system.
  • There will be overlap between these different weapon types, for example, Some weapons are both Kinetic and Power weapons all in one package.

The Weapons Menu will be instantly recognizable to existing Destiny players. Here are a few examples from GameSpots coverage of the game:

Things Destiny 1 Players Should Know

  • Your gear, weapons, items and currency will not carry over to Destiny 2.
  • Race, Class and Appearance choices will carry over from the 2014 original.
  • Destiny 1 veterans will receive other in-game rewards and acknowledgment for the time spent in Bungie’s world over the years.

Modes:

  • Player Vs Player (PVP) combat returns in Destiny 2 however the team sizes have been scaled down to 4 Vs 4. The original Destiny featured modes that were 3 VS 3, 6 player free for alls, 6 Vs 6 and other team compositions depending on the mode selected.
  • PVP Crucible mode will feature improvements to the HUD so that you can easily tell your teammates positions, objective position, objective status and team health.
  • One Raid has been confirmed for Destiny 2 but little is known about it at this time. Expect it to be similar to the other raids that we have had in previous iterations.
  • Single player returns with a stronger narrative focus.
  • Strikes and the more challenging Nightfalls will return for all of us who enjoy repeating the same missions over and over for experience.
  • Matchmaking is coming for Raids (in addition to the previously available matchmaking services for Strikes & Crucible) in the form of ‘Guided Games’. This new feature will work in conjunction with the new Clans system which will allow a single player to find a pre-formed party who might need an extra player or two to round out their roster.

PS4 Pro Enhanced

Exclusive Content

  • There will be an open beta for Destiny 2 that will be available to all, just like the first game. There will also be a period of exclusivity for pre-order customers who put down $5 at Gamestop or other retailers.
  • Destiny 2 will support 4K resolution but as of right now it is currently exclusive to the PC.
  • An ‘Expansion Pass’ will allow Guardians to access the first two expansions for Destiny 2 Year One. A bundle with the Destiny 2 base game and the ‘Expansion Pass’ is priced at $89.99 USD.
  • The PC version of Destiny 2 will be exclusive to the Battle.net launcher – sorry no Steam integration or Windows Store version for Destiny’s debut on PC.
  • PlayStation 4 players once again receive exclusive content for one full year over other platforms. Details on what exactly this exclusivity entails will be announced at a later time.
  • PS4 Pro features & Xbox Scorpio features are expected to be revealed at E3.

Destiny 2 will be released worldwide for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox Scoprio on September 8th 2017.

We will have more Destiny 2 coverage as information, media and impressions become available. When the embargo time drops and raw gameplay footage begins to hit YouTube and other providers we will be sure to bring you a rundown.

Posted on April 18, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Take to the stars with the ability to command your own personal Starship in Starpoint Gimini Warlords which entered beta on Steam Early access recently. In this brand new entry in the Starpoint series has been in development by Little Green Men Games on Early Access for just over a year now, and with a number of enhancements coming with the recently released beta the game is shaping up to be a space commander’s dream.

Starpoint Gemini Warlords allows players to take command of either a single ship or eventually an entire fleet all at once.  The game provides commanders a number of different options to live out their lives among the stars, below is just a small taste of what its sandbox-like world has to offer:

Fight!Players take direct control of their ship and are able to manually aim and fire their weapons. Commanders can also assign their weapons to NPC crew members while they focus on the execution of unique skills.

Upgrade!  – Player begin their career in space in a small vessel but can eventually train their way up to a carrier class ship complete with its own fighter wings.

Form Up! –  Once you’ve worked your way up the ship chain you can form fleets of ships complete with NPC wingmen.

Here are just a couple of the community requested enhancements that have made their way into the recently released Starpoint Gemini Warlords beta:

  • If players have the reputation with factions they can now engage in some side quests for rare loot.
  • As per the community’s request the target lock system has been redesigned, with visual feedback appearing on the player’s HUD to reflect the status of the current target.
  • Exploration has been enhanced to provide players with a more goal orientated approach, which they should find more rewarding.
  • Skills have been overhauled to allow players to view all 12 currently implemented skills, but they may only chose 4 active at a time. These can be reassigned with a stats re-roll.
  • Completely new soundtrack.

Starpoint Gemini Warlords is now in Beta and will be released on May 23rd. At that time the price of the game will increase to $34.99 USD from the current price of $29.99 USD.

Unreal Tournament’s January 2017 Patch Is Here

Posted on January 25, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Unreal Tournament franchise might not have the staying power it once had – dominating the team based arena combat genre alongside Quake Tournament III in the early 00s but a dedication group of fans & a small time of developers at Epic Games have been hard at work on the next entry in the franchise for several years. The latest patch for the currently in development free to play online shooter brings a collection of community created maps, some huge weapon changes and a brand new prototype weapons.

Here is a summary of some of the biggest changes coming to the new Unreal Tournament. Full patch notes and a detailed developer blog is also available.

Community Maps

The following fully meshed community made maps are available via the Unreal Shop for free. These maps have seen some tweaks and changes since their initial launch:

  • DM-Salt
  • DM-Bartrankus
  • DM-Unsaved
  • DM-Backspace
  • CTF-Polaris

Audio Changes

New footstep sounds as well as a whole bunch of new weapon sound effects have been added.

Weapon Changes

  • The flak canon is currently a work in progress and still requires tweaking in terms of its firepower according to the developer video. It has had its base damage increased and the speed of bouncing projectiles also increased however these projectiles will not apply knock back to opponents.
  • Rocket launcher’s rocket spread has been increased by 33%. The time needed for a player to lcok onto a target with the lock on mode has been increased the icon was changed from yellow to red. Using the locked on seeking rocket is only effective for 20 meters in front of the player now.
  • Link guns’ pull mechanism no longer requires a complicated two button press – instead it is now linked to the alt fire button to alleviate confusion. The default ammo count for the Link gun and the amount of ammo picked up from boxes for this gun have been increased.
  • Field of view on the Sniper Rifle’s scope has been modified, it is also not possible to get a head shot off on a player while they are sliding now.

New Weapon Prototype – The Lightening Gun

This long-range scoped sniper rifle returns from Unreal Tournamnet 2003 – here is how the official dev blog that explains the basic of this new weapon.  a lot of the prototype weapons including the Lightening Gun & grenade launcher

“The Lightning Rifle prototype is a long range hitscan weapon with clearly defined advantages and disadvantages; a sniper weapon feared when used at long range but limited at closer range. It has two very different fire modes depending on whether the weapon is zoomed in.”

Super Mario Run Marketing Machine Kicks Into Gear

Posted on December 9, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The portly plumber will make his debut on a non-Nintendo mobile platform with the release of Super Mario Run on Apple’s iOS platform next Thursday, December 15th. With the game less than a week away Nintendo’s marketing machine is now in high gear – here are the latest developments.

Super Mario Run looks and feels like other entries in the New Super Mario Bros series on WiiU / Wii and 3DS with bright and colorful graphics, as well as the staple Goombas and Koopas we’ve come to expect. Unlike other Mario titles, however, Super Mario Run is designed to be played with just one hand. The plumber will run on his own towards the goal with the player allowing him to jump in varying degrees using a touch of their finger.

Super Mario Run on the iPhone 6 Plus

Players will be able to take on three different modes in the initial launch version of Super Mario Run. There’s the traditional World Tour mode which will guide Nintendo’s mascot through a series of themed worlds like Ghost Houses, lush forests and even Bowser’s castle. There’s also an online vs. Mode which allows players to challenge friend’s ghost data to win the admiration of a crowd of Toads! Finally there is Kingdom mode which allows Mario to build up the mushroom kingdom using coins he has collected and unlock new playable characters.

Want to see each of these three modes in action? Check out the debut trailer below:

If you want to play Super Mario Run ahead of the game’s December 15th release, a special demo version is now playable at all Apple Stores across North America.

Also, if you missed the special appearance of Shigeru Miyamoto and Reggie on the Jimmie Fallon show, it is definitely worth the watch. Not only does Jimmy fan boy out over the appearance of Miyamoto in the front of the audience but he’s also the first person in the world to publicly play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch!

Fans Sift Through Every Inch of New LOZ: Breath of The Wild Footage

Posted on December 2, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo released a pair of brand new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild videos this evening and they’ve already sent fans on a wild adventure – surely folks will be combing through these two videos for days or weeks to come. Showcasing just a little under 10 minutes of in-game action this new trailer & game-play walk-through hint at or directly confirm a number of new tid bits.

Before we get to the new videos here are both embedded for your viewing pleasure:

Spoiler warnings for the above videos from here on out!

Link will be able to make use of a Lightening Rod. Notice that in this build its base attack value is quite low, half of its description is cut off and it’s only on-screen for a fraction of a second.

zelda_tease1

The Spiked Moblin Club, one of the weapons dropped by a larger enemy in the brand new trailer. Its base attack value is actually lower than the sword Link is using in this demonstration.

zelda_tease2

What treasures await us at the end of this gauntlet? Sadly Bill Trinnen won’t tell viewers – some secrets are best left for the players.

zelda_tease3

A dog jaunts alongside link during a portion of the latest trailer. Could this mean that Link will have other animal companions beside Epona?

zelda_tease4

Who are these mysterious bird people that are briefly teased? Could they be the Rito from Wind Waker? Some fans have even speculated that these bird creatures are actually related to the shieka somehow.

zelda_tease5

The final shots of the “Life In The Ruins” trailer gives us a glimpse of two seemingly different female characters. Could this be Nintendo’s way of hinting that we might finally get a female playable Link this time around? Could Princess Zelda be playable for a section of the game?

zelda_tease6

What do you think of the tidbits and juicy hints that Nintendo has layed out for us in this latest The Legend of Zelda: Breathe of the Wild footage? I played the game at E3 this past June and was absolutely blown away by it. This (new?) female character and possible canine companion have me even more intrigued. Share your thoughts with me in the comments section at the bottom of this article!

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U in 2017.

Tales of Berseria Announced For PS4 and PC North American Release

Posted on December 21, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

In news that is sure to delight fans of the long running Tales of series, such as myself, Bandai Namco has confirmed via a brand new trailer that the latest entry Tales of Berseria will be releasing sometime in the west for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

In their announcement blog post the publisher briefly described the game like this:

The next game in the long running “Tales of” series is Tales of Berseria, a tale of emotion versus reason! Coming on PlayStation 4 and PC Digital including Steam, the story will focus on Velvet, the first female solo main character. You will embark on a journey and assume the role of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience three years prior to the events within TALES OF BERSERIA imbued her left hand with a special ability.

Berseria like other modern entries, like this year’s Tales of Zestiria, will bring some changes to the established combat formula. Here’s what the development team is trying with Berseria:

  1. The player’s default control is free run
  2. The player can rotate the camera freely
  3. The player can assign multiple artes to any of the four buttons: ○, ×, △ and □, allowing different artes to be linked together in attack combinations.

Are you excited for the newly announced western release of Tales of Berseria? The game was originally announced this past April for a 2016 release in Japan but it looks like it’ll be more of a worldwide affair!
