Rock Band 4 Rings In The New Year With Six New Tracks

Posted on December 28, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Harmonix has revealed the last batch of downloadable content heading to your living room in 2015. If you’re staying in this New Year’s Eve perhaps you should pull out the drum kit or microphone before counting down because artists like Weezer, Ellie Goulding, Cold Play, Sam Hunt & more will have new tracks available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network.

To be honest the other two acts featured in the last content drop for 2015 are Justin Bieber and One Direction, however I can’t advise playing either of their songs at your New Year’s gathering unless you want all of your guests to leave before the clock strikes midnight.

Here’s the full rundown of new tracks coming tomorrow, Each will be prices at $1.99 USD:

Coldplay            “Adventure of a Lifetime”
Ellie Goulding            “On My Mind”
Justin Bieber            “What Do You Mean?”
One Direction            “Drag Me Down”
Sam Hunt            “Leave The Night On”
Weezer            “Thank God for Girls”

Here is the trailer:

Halo 5 Live Stream Event Reveals New DLC

Posted on November 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Halo 5 ‘s developers 343i promised myriad DLC for their newest entry in to the Halo 5 franchise, and it seems that the first wave of that promise has been delivered. 343 already announced in a blog post that they would be releasing the much improved forge mode in December, it now seems that we will get even more content in December. Design and Trend (a website that follows all things design and game) noticed the new DLC “hidden” in the forge mode video

THE SPANKR IS BACK BABBY

A still from the video reveals new armor and weapon skins

Thats the classic rocket launcher right there the SPANKR in all its glory. That single still appears at the tail end of an over two hour devlog about the game’s forge mode, by the end of which most people will no doubt have tuned out. The few frames seems to show the old rocket launcher (an addition many people would be happy to see) Also returning are the Mk4 armor (from halo 3)

Latest Rock Band 4 DLC Turns Back The Clock 15 Years

Posted on November 11, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Harmonix has revealed the brand new DLC that is now available on both the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Live Marketplace. These brand new tracks take us back to the early 2000s with the likes of GodSmack, Linkin Park (who at least are still producing new music, and in all honesty The Hunting Party felt like a return to form for them) and the now defunct AudioSlave.

All three of these bands pretty much defined my teenage years, I can remember listening to Linkin Park in the early years of high school. Honestly – the most interesting is probably AudioSlave due to the fact they somehow blended Chris Cornell’s belting voice with the funk infused sounds of the remnants of Rage Against The Machine.

God I feel so old now, and I’m only 29! .. Full list of songs below

New Songs Available In Rock Band 4:
Audioslave – Like A Stone
Godsmack – Awake
Linkin Park – Lying From You

Rocket league to get mutators with free DLC

Posted on October 29, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Our oppinions here at brokenjoysticks on Rocket League are well known, our review posted here was glowing to say the least. So any time we hear about DLC or new content for that game we get EXTREMELY excited. So what could make an already amazing game where you shoot around in cars that have rockets even more amazing? The answer lies in Mutators

[youtube id=”cEH2hUw-d_U”]

Mutators at first seem simple, you can change all sorts of things, the size of the ball, the gravity in the field, the shape of the ball (is it still a ball if its square? I DONT KNOW) etc. Some that we know about already include: Cube (turns ball in to a cube), Moonball (lowers gravity), and Time warp (presumably warps time?) The new modifiers will appear in custom games and in a rotating playlist called unsurprisingly Mutator Mashup. I personally cant wait to get my hands on these game modes, the basic mode of rocket league was always where I had the most fun, and this will add so much more. Plus its bound to make it easier right? no i guess probably not, but thats the fun isint it?

Also announced is a hockey mode for later on in December. The Mutator DLC is free and will be available in the coming weeks. An additional preview will be provided today via a live stream.

Some Halo 5 Pre-loads Downloaded the wrong file

Posted on October 22, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

It is not often that we find Microsoft apologizing for an issue with one of their flagship games, it comes as a supirse when Microsoft announced that a place holder file may be all people who downloaded Halo 5 guardiands got this week. If you use the instant on feature, and pre-ordered you may have ended up getting burned on this one. Though Microsoft says  only a “small number of players” are effected.

People who downloaded this stub file will need to delete it and reinstall the right one. You can check to see if you installed the stub file by following the instructions below:

  1. Go to My games & apps
  2. Sort your game collection by selecting Installed à Sort by size
  3. If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is greater than 40 GB, you’ve got the correct version
  4. If your Halo 5: Guardians game size is less than 40 GB, you’ve got an incorrect stub file.

if you got the incorrect file you will need to re-install.

Editorial: What’s in a game, how DLC stops me from buying what I love

Posted on October 14, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

After playing the Star Wars Battlefront beta I was 100% sold on purchasing the game. I planned to order the game through origin and pre-load to play day 1. Then came the announcement of a 50$ season pass DLC. I immediately found myself stuck in a major conundrum.  I am HUGE Star Wars fan girl, my love for the franchise extends far beyond the movies in to games, books, and even comics. So Battlefront should have been a guaranteed sale for me. However I found myself hesitating, the game itself is 60$, a fully priced AAA game from one of the largest dogs in AAA publishing.  EA has no shortage of money, and yet in what would seem to be a clear money grabbing move they have priced the first DLC pack for their new game at 50$ (it is a season pass and so contains 4 DLC map packs). My mind was changed faster than Han Solos blaster draw. There simply is no room in my already crowded budget to have to purchase a game like Battlefront twice.  Perhaps even more important than the money I can’t understand why a company would still think it’s a good idea to sell this much DLC for this price. It alienates your core multiplayer audience if they can’t afford it, and causes strife in the games community. Yet it seems EA simply keeps making the same set of mistake. Diving your player base and charging an already stretched player an additional sunk cost isn’t the way to win over your core audience.Read More

COD: Advanced Warfare Havoc DLC Slams Down on PS3 / PS4

Posted on March 1, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Gamers on either of Sony’s home consoles can now enjoy the Havoc DLC for Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare the publisher announced today. This first DLC expansion adds four new multiplayer maps, a brand new energy weapon called the “AE4 direct energy assault rifle” and the return of the popular zombie’s mini-game with the addition of the “EXO Zombies” mode.

EXO Zombies mode has its own story separate from the main campaign. It featured a celebrity voice cast including Bill Paxton, John Malkovich, Rose McGowan and Jon Bernthall.  So grab three of your friends and prepare to experience this awesome sounding multiplayer mode. The Call of Duty games always seem to have some interesting cameos with their DLC – Black Ops original Zombies mode featuring J.F.K is probably the most memorable for me.Read More

State Of Decay Breakdown | Review

Posted on November 27, 2013 by Les Major

The first DLC expansion to State of Decay is a treat for hardcore fans who want to play out their own survival story without being weighed down by any main story missions. While it may sound strange to purchase an add-on to essentially take things out of the game, this potentially did take a lot of work to accomplish and there is an interesting mildly arcade sort of focus to Breakdown.

Basically the expansion, accessed separately from the title screen, starts you off with Lily Ritter admitting defeat to your situation and looking for a new home base. You are given a choice of three randomly selected ones that have survivors already living in them at the start of this. These seem to be from a slightly smaller pool than the total ten or so, I think it picks three of about a potential five. From there, you basically survive until Breakdown’s main add-on begins, which is finding an RV or similar vehicle marked on the map, which allows you to escape your current area and move on to a refreshed map. It’s still the same valley, but with scavenge areas restocked.Read More
