Hearts of Iron 3: Their Finest Hour Contest

Monty, Broken Joysticks’ official wargaming bulldog, has just secured some copies of the latest HOI 3 expansion, Their Finest Hour, to giveaway to our readers. I understand that his meticulous planning allowed him to succeed in an amphibious landing near Stockholm where, after a visit to the Vasa, he liberated some Steam codes from Paradox Interactive.

We have 7 steam codes for Their Finest Hour and 5 steam codes for The Hearts of Iron 3 Collection (which includes the base game and expansions needed to play the game). Monty also scored two copies of Crusader Kings 2. This sounds like a good excuse for a contest.

One of the new features in their Finest Hour (or at least new to HOI3) is the ability for your commanders to gain traits through combat. In order to enter our contest tell us (in the comments) what trait you deserve and why. For instance you could claim the right to be a Ranger because you are really into Lord of the Rings cosplay. Panzer Corps’ First Standalone Expansion Inbound

Slitherine and Matrix Games have announced the first standalone expansion for their turn-based wargame Panzer Corps, entitled Panzer Corps: Afrika Corps. As the name suggests, this expansion will put you in control of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s Deutsches Afrikakorps as you attempt to push Britain out of the Middle East. Particularly successful players will even have an opportunity to advance into British India. Grognards will get a chance to outshine the Desert Fox once the expansion is released on the 31st of this month.

In addition to this new expansion, the original Panzer Crops is now on sale for 33% off. The sale lasts until the 15th, so people interested in conquering hexes for the Reich may want to look into the sale. New Panzer Corps DLC Released

Slitherine and Matrix Games have just announced the release of the Panzer Corps Grand Campaign ’45 East DLC. This is the seventh DLC for Panzer Corps, the turn based strategy game by The Lordz Games Studio.

As the name suggests, this DLC campaign focuses on the final months of the war from the German perspective. Things aren’t looking too good for the Wehrmacht as most of the maps take place in (then) German territories like Königsberg, Breslau, and Berlin.

If you are unfamiliar with Panzer Corps, it is an excellent Panzer General clone. The vanilla campaign is fairly epic, but the DLC campaigns upped the ante with gigantic maps and more varied objectives than “kill everybody and take their hexes.” If this sounds interesting to you, then try out the demo here. Hitler’s Dog to play a major role in Iron Front

Deep Silver has just announced a novel multiplayer mode for X1 Software/AWAR’s upcoming WW2 tactical shooter Iron Front: Liberation 1944. The new mode, named “Assassinate the Blondie,” tasks two Soviet players with the job of killing Blondi, Hitler’s ever loyal German Shepherd. Two German players will naturally have to protect their Führer’s beloved pet. Doubtlessly, Blondi’s premature death would demoralize Hitler, and the repercussions would negatively affect the German war effort.

It is unclear right now what Blondi will be doing. Will one of Hitler’s confidants be walking Blondi? Will Blondi be unleashed and aimlessly wandering about the map? Will someone be able to play as Blondi? As a fan of the Escort/Assassination mode from Team Fortress Classic, I’m hoping that the later is the case.
