Resident Evil 7 Lost Tapes DLC Now Available On Steam & Xbox One

Posted on February 22, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Resident Evil 7

Capcom has released the latest the two Banned Footage DLC packs for Resident Evil 7 on both Xbox One and Windows via Steam the publisher has announced. All of this DLC was previously released on PlayStation 4 first. Both packs are also included with the Resident Evil 7 Season’s Pass. Banned Footage volume 1 is priced at $9.99 USD while volume 2 is priced a bit higher at $14.99 USD according to Capcom’s press release.

Each volume includes the following add-on content:

Banned Footage Volume 1

  • Nightmare
  • Bedroom
  • Ethan must die.

Banned Footage Volume 2

  • Daughters
  • 21 & Over
  • Jack’s 55th Birthday

Resident Evil 7’s director, Koshi Nakanishi, explained how these add-on tapes allowed the team to experiment narratively and show players some of the motivation behind the actions of the Baker clan. Here is the full quote:

“We had more freedom in the DLC to let the team try different things. Each of the experiences lets us explore one concept in depth in a way, so for Nightmare it was pure combat. In Bedroom, I wanted to show Marguerite in detail and give players a chance to finally try the food she got so upset you didn’t eat in the dinner scene. You can literally eat it until it kills you.”

Since the game was released back in July, Nintendo and Capcom have been releasing a series of free DLC packs for Monster Hunter Generations, but alas all good things must come to an end. January brings the start of another year but the end of the free DLC packs.

The final DLC pack comes packed with some of the deadliest quests in the game, featuring multiple Hyper Monsters back-to-back or even at the same time!

All you need to do is connect your Nintendo 3DS to the Internet and go to the in-game DLC menu to secure 15 new Quests, 15 new Guild Card titles and a fancy new Guild Card background. And don’t forget you can still download all the content from all previously released DLC packs, including quests that unlock the Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda gear sets and a number of useful Item Packs.

Dead Rising 4 Changes Are Awesome For Casual Fans

Posted on December 7, 2016 by Les Major

Dead Rising 4 Promo

I’ve seen a lot of complaints online addressing the changes made to Dead Rising 4 and in some ways I get how hardcore fans must feel. I admit, Dead Rising 3 for me was an accomplishment. When I took down a psychopath, I felt powerful! Like somehow I’d beaten the odds and finished off a boss that I had no right clearing with my skills.

The fourth entry in the series is very much different, but I like it for being it’s own thing. I still remember fighting my way through those impossible odds and beating a difficult boss in the first Dead Rising. Then I ran out of time and had to start all over again, thankfully carrying my leveling up over to my next play through. Still, I’m pretty sure the bosses came back again. That impossible mountain that I’d climbed had returned. I don’t think you had to beat them during a playthrough, but it was just one of those things.

Much of that has changed. There is no time limit anymore. For many, that created quite an outcry. On the other hand, you have this large sandbox town with side quests to explore and collectables to discover. So Dead Rising 4 could be just the game you’re looking for. The problem many gamers have is that it’s different. It’s something they were used to and it’s been removed. Quite honestly, I’ve seen a similar response from some of my friends who are playing Pokémon Sun or Moon. Gyms have been swapped out in that series for trials now. It’s on the surface not that much of a difference, but even a smaller change that didn’t really alter gameplay that much frustrated some fans.

In Dead Rising 4, the changes are more significant. But it all depends on your perspective if they’re better or worse. It would take a lot of programming and possibly some balancing, but it’s a shame both styles of gameplay couldn’t have been included. There is something to be said about the more relaxed and explorative style of this latest release. Having it as a casual mode potentially would have been a way to please everyone.

For me and my friends, it’s actually a welcome change. Instead of having to backtrack through content over and over, you have a steady sense of progress in Dead Rising 4. I’m not about to run out of time and have to go back to the beginning. Instead I’m mowing down crowds of literally hundreds of zombies on screen at once and getting to take my time doing it. If I want to stay in one area and level up, that’s totally an option. I don’t need to worry about muscling my way through the story again.

On top of all that you have more inventory space and bosses do seem significantly easier. It’s either that or I’ve just been armed to the teeth when I’ve met up with some of them. If anything out of it all, maybe the bosses could be a bit tougher. I just finished the second case in the game and the boss I was fighting seemed to have many healing items scattered about. Don’t get me wrong, if I wasn’t paying attention and backing off from the fight I’m sure I could have gotten Frank totaled.

Is the game difficult? No, no really, at least not so far. Is the game fun? Well, yeah! I wish there were even more areas to go inside of out in the town, but there are interiors to explore. I haven’t even touched on multiplayer yet. So it may not be your usual Dead Rising, but it may be something different that you’ll really enjoy!

I feel like I’ve been saying that a lot this season. Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare had the same sort of reception to some. Yes a lot of fans were angered by having to buy the remaster of Modern Warfare along with the new game. Others didn’t care for the sci-fi setting. Really I said the same thing for Infinite Warfare that I’m saying here, if it wasn’t a part of a series we wouldn’t be having this conversation. On their own rights, Dead Rising 4 and Infinite Warfare are awesome games that I love! I just feel bad for the fans that are dedicated to the franchises that were expecting something different. I’ve been there before too. I’d dreamed of NEW Super Mario Bros 2 being based on Super Mario Bros 2 USA which it wasn’t. I watched the Secret of Mana series change and evolve over time into something I didn’t really recognize anymore. I do understand where everyone is coming from.

If you want a zombie game with a holiday theme, tons of weapons you’re used to from the Dead Rising series, and a sandbox town to explore during an outbreak, you’ve got a great title here. I still remember on my gameplay stream having a friend in the chat comment about the Black Friday sale being out of control. Well, yeah, it even is Black Friday when the outbreak happened. So there are still banners for the sales hanging up in the mall.

I’m not hyping the game under any obligation. We do receive free review copies occasionally from publishers and Dead Rising 4 is one of those titles. That does not require us to give a positive review for a game. I honestly enjoy Dead Rising 4 and I hope you’ll give it a chance. Do your research and see what you think of the game. Maybe you’re not hardcore into the series and the concept of no time limit is a godsend to you! Well, have at it! This game is for you then!

Stay tuned for our full review of Dead Rising 4 in the coming days. I can tell you right now though that this is an enjoyable addition to the series.

A Pair of Marvel Vs Capcom Games Coming To PlayStation 4

Posted on December 3, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom announced at the PlayStation Experience today that a pair of Marvel Vs Capcom titles will be making their way to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. First up is Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite, a new title slated for release in 2017. Capcom’s classic Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 will be getting a PS4 upgrade / re-release digitally on the PlayStation Store, available today.

Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite appears to take hints from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – featuring Avengers characters proximately in the brief 1:30 teaser trailer that Capcom unveiled during the Sony keynote.  The first new character that we get a look at in the footage is Captain Marvel, who is slated to get her own MCU film due out in 2019 staring Brie Larson.  Representing the Capcom side in this debut trailer are both Megaman and Ryu, from the Street Fighter series.

On the gameplay side of things Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite will feature 2 Vs 2 battles, as opposed to the traditional 3 on brawls that the series has been known for. Infinity Stones are in-game items that grant a player a temporary boost in a number of different areas – power, space, time, reality, soul and mind – allowing them to hopefully turn the tide of battle. It was also promised that MVC: Infinite would feature “accessible single-player content” including a full cinematic story mode, training, arcade and mission modes.

If you’re looking for a current-gen MVC fix and can’t wait for 2017, Capcom and Marvel have also teamed up to re-release the now half-decade old Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 on PS4. It will be available sometime later today when the store is updated, as of press time no official price or listing is available.

As Polygon originally reported, the YouTube trailer for the UMVC3 re-release confirms that Windows PC and Xbox One versions of the game will be made available in 2017 as well.

““Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is being re-released for current generation systems; with the PlayStation 4 digital download version available today and the Xbox One and Windows PC versions coming in March 2017!”]”

Ultimate Marvel Vs Cpacom 3 was originally released in 2011 for PS3, PS Vita and Xbox 360 and features 36 different characters from both company’s stable of heroes.

More information about Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite is available on the official PlayStation Blog.

Marvel Vs Capcom 4 Rumors Heat Up Ahead of PlayStation Experience

Posted on November 27, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Are you ready to be TAKEN FOR A RIDE? Rumours are circulating on the popular video game forum NeoGaf that Capcom and Sony may have entered into an exclusivity for another fighting game. The heroes & villains of Marvel Entertainment might be preparing to face off against Capcom’s large roster of characters in Marvel Vs Capcom 4– if this rumour is true.

A set of three images appeared thanks to a user named Ryce who claims that they are part of a reveal at the PlayStation Experience set to take place in California next weekend from Dec 3rd through 4th.

Here are the teaser images that Ryce posted:

26_marvel01 26_marvel02 26_marvel03

These screen-grabs are supposedly from either a teaser trailer or a set of teaser images created to promote the upcoming fighter. Does the artwork on display remind you of anything? Almost all of it is taken from previous promotional art or trailers for both Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 or the 2001 classic Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Aside from the re-use of iconic artwork the only new element in these screen-grabs is the “4” – signifying the fourth major title in the franchise.

Long time Fighting Game Community member and content creator Maximillian Dood, who has had official partnerships with Capcom, created a rather lengthy video giving his opinion on the whole thing. Max doesn’t feel that the “4” images (reprocessed above) are not legitimate and that the proportions of the image are out of wack.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and digital copies of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 / Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 were pulled from the PlayStation Network nearly two years ago, in mid December 2013. Users who already purchased MVC2 are still able to download copies onto their systems but prior to it’s 2009 re-release on PSN it was locked to the Xbox (original) and PlayStation 2 / Dreamcast.

What do you think about the possibility of MVC4 coming to PS4?

October’s PlayStation Plus Games Look Amazing: Resident Evil, Transformers & More

Posted on September 29, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

After introducing a price hike that rose the price of PlayStation Plus as much as 30% in Canada, Sony had to something to show PlayStation owners that the extra $10 – $20 a year is justified. Sony’s surprise for subscribers? Two AAA titles for PlayStation 4, a pair of interesting looking visual novels and some sports action for PlayStation 3 players.

Transformers: Devastation | Current Price: $59.99 CDN

Platinum Game’s take on the Transformers universe was well received when it was released last Fall across multiple platforms. PS4 owners can try out this fusion of transforming giant robots and fast paced action until the end of October!

Resident Evil HD | Current Price: $19.99 CDN

Capcom’s 2002 reimagining of the original Resident Evil is widely regarded as one of the best survival horror tiles the genre has ever seen. Featuring graphics that still stand-up today, re-done backgrounds and a much needed bump in resolution Resident Evil HD is probably the best way to experience this classic. We have seen it on sale recently, as part of the $15 Capcom humble bundle but that shouldn’t deter folks from grabbing it on PS4 if they missed last month’s bundle.

Other titles available throughout October for PS Plus members:

  • Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth – (PS Vita)
  • Actual Sunlight (PS Vita)
  • Mad Riders (PS3)
  • From Dust PS3)

All in all this looks like an absolutely solid month of offerings from PlayStation Plus. I thought last month’s selection of Journey and Lords of the Fallen was going to be hard to beat but Sony has one upped themselves. If you own a Vita don’t discount the two visual novels – from what I’ve read around the PS Vita community they come highly recommended but I can’t personally vouch for them.

All titles listed in this article will be available until the end of the month.

Resident Evil 7’s Demo Update Poses More Questions Than It Answers

Posted on September 18, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 got an updated demo that is available for everyone – not just PlayStation Plus subscribers like the surprise reveal E3 2016 demo. Despite being hotly anticipated Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour Twilight Version leaves players with more questions than answers. Potentially infuriating players it actually fails to answer questions posed by the first demo entirely.

Here are some of the questions that the community wants answered that the two playable demos have yet to reveal:

finger

#1 – What is the finger for?

Over the course of the demo players can find both a detached finger and hand. What the hell do they do? Absolutely nothing, despite being the stuff of speculation for months since fans played Beginning Hour.  Some fans have spent upwards of 20+ hours combing through both demos and came up with nothing – is it part of the dummy found in part of the house? Can you re-attach the finger to the hands? We simply don’t know yet.

download

#2 – Where Are The Weapons and Enemies?

Resident Evil 7: Beginning Hour is heavy on exploration and setting the scene for the full versions release. Players can explore the creepy home and soak in the atmosphere but there aren’t any weapons in the demo. Ammo exists in Twilight Version but without a gun to combine it with we’re left with nothing – in fact Capcom has only shown a few seconds of footage showing the player reloading a pistol (pictured above.) How will RE7’s gunplay feel compared to the third-person entries? It is anyone’s guess right now.

resident-evil-7

#3 – Could We See Another Update?

This game has been a mystery during its entire short public existence. Prior to the E3 reveal during Sony’s press conference Capcom was happy to show off the game for Sony’s upcoming PlayStation VR as “The Kitchen” without so much as acknowledging the game’s connection to Resident Evil. When it was revealed at E3 the fanbase was driven rabid, combing the demo for every possible clue and scrap of information. PlayStation VR is set to be released on October 13th and comes packed with a demo for Resident Evil 7– could Twilight Version get an update on that day? Perhaps on Halloween just in time to scare us?

Retro-View: Okami HD (PS3)

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Review By Maria Maximoff

Okami is without a doubt the best example of how a video game can be a work of art. From the moment you start your first playthrough you are introduced to a vibrant world inspired by Japanese culture. For anyone with a love for action adventure platformers this is the Capcom published classic is your dream come true, and it’s available in HD on PSN.

I should start out by explaining my history with this game:

Back in early 2006 I received my monthly edition of Official PlayStation Magazine in the mail, and to my delight it contained a demo disc. Am I showing my age yet? I loved demo discs. It was the easiest way for me to play games I otherwise would have never gotten the chance to. Okami was published by Capcom in 2006 and originally developed by the now defunct Clover Studio. I played the Okami demo for the rest of that year. When Christmas came around and I was asked what single game I would like I said “drum roll please” Bully for PS2. I had a short attention span. I have never regretted my choice, but I always wondered how great it would be to play the rest of the game. Thank the old gods for the trend of HD re-releases.

okami2

Okami’s narrative is strongly rooted in Shinto Mythology. Nearly every character is based on a figure from shintoism. The sheer amount of Japanese folklore packed into Okami would take countless articles to cover. From sun goddesses to wood spirits to eight headed demons, playing Okami will introduce you to the world of Japanese mythology in the most engaging way possible.

The basic plot of Okami is familiar enough – An ancient evil has returned to the land and it is up to the titular character to traverse a vast cell shaded world filled with memorable characters. You take on the role of the sun goddess Amaterasu who has been reincarnated as the heroic wolf Shiranui. 100 years have passed since Shiranui and the warrior Nagi defeated the monster Orochi to save Kamiki Village. You are joined by a Navi like comedic companion named Issun. Throughout the story you meet a wood spirit named Sakuya, a would be swordsman with a wooden sword named Nami, and Waka a mysterious character who can see into the future. All the characters are both endearing and compelling and ad to the overall narative of the game as well as adding in perfectly placed bits of humor. The stakes feel high as you are tasked with bringing life and color back to the world and to defeat evil. By the end of the game I found myself rooting for these characters to succeed and to grow, a feat many modern games fall short of.

okami3

One of the biggest draws of Okami is how it’s art design as the main focus of its game-play. Although like most action platformers you can use basic striking attacks you will spend most of your time using Okami’s unqiue celestial brush. The brush is used in almost every element of the gameplay – In some instances you will need to use the brush to complete objectives such as bringing trees back to life, fixing a water wheel, cutting barriers down that block your path and so on. In one charming instance you use the ink from the brush to obscure the sight of a farmer so you can dig up daikon radishes. As the game progresses you will encounter different spirits that will award you with different brush strokes that can be used in a variety of different ways. The amount of ink you get at the start of the game is very generous and your ink pots regenerate quite quickly. This will work to you benefit as the game’s difficulty curve can become daunting at times. I died a lot in the later portions of the games. Although the game will at points give you an directional arrow that leads you to an important objective, for the majority of the game you are left to figure out what you are supposed to be doing on your own. Nothing impossible, but trial and error is a must in this game. The open ended nature of the quests you are given allows for a tremendous amount of freedom.

The gameplay has not changed at all from the original PS2 version released a decade ago for this modern re-master, and the HD overhaul makes every color pop out at you. The HD version of without a doubt the definitive version. A PC release on Steam would be a welcome however as there are times when the precision needed to perform certain brush strokes would have been made easier with a mouse and keyboard. Overall the artistic aspects of the gameplay along with the cell shaded graphics inspired by Japanese watercolor paintings and woodcarvings are a joy to behold.

My time spent playing Okami was worth waiting ten years to play. The art style was candy for my eyes and the gameplay kept me on my toes and constantly thinking “What do I do now?”. It’s a shame that the game did not command high sales at the time of its release. Unfortunately Okami came out at a transitional time in gaming when First Person Shooters where in and platformers were on the way out.Without a doubt if Okami had been released in today’s market it would have been a smash hit for the now defunct developer. If you have a love for action platformers and an interest in Japanese mythology this is most definitely the game for you. Even if you don’t have an interest in the mythology then the game is still loads of fun to play and well worth the price of admission.

Okami HD was part of last month’s Humble Capcom PlayStation Bundle

IMPRESSIONS: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice

Posted on September 9, 2016 by Jason Nason

I’ve always like Ace Attorney series, though I haven’t had the chance to play much of the series. It’s one of those fondnesses that happens from afar. I’ve played some here and there, but have always enjoyed what I’ve played.

The latest game in the series Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice arrived for the Nintendo 3DS yesterday, exclusively in the eShop. While I haven’t had a chance to play the full game yet, I did play through the demo.

It’s time to embark on a legal adventure in the new came with co-stars Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice.

The Awesome Booths From PAX West

Posted on September 9, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom brought a lot of their offerings from E3 to PAX for the public to enjoy. Surprisingly Dead Rising 4 only had 2 demo stations at their official booth although more where playable at the Microsoft booth.

1

Indie title Warcube was part of the PAX Rising selection at PAX West.

2

Our own Renee Gittin’s “Potions: A Curious Tale” was playable on the show-floor :D!

3

Cards Against Humanity had a very creative store front at the entrance to this year’s con.

4

It included a hallway that lead to a store where you could buy the subversive card game. Perhaps it was a picture taking opportunity for some.

5

Star Trek: Bridge Commander was one of the surprise hits of this past weekend’s convention. Sadly it filled up so quickly that it was by appointment only.

6

ARK: Survival Evolved’s T-REX is no stranger to the convention scene, we saw it last @ PAX East.

8

Indie title Fox Hole: Persistent Warfare was playable on the show floor.

10

RIPTIDE: Renegade GP devs showing off the latest build of their game.

12

Gunvolt 2 was fully playable on this large television thanks to a special developer only 3DS unit.

13

Friends of the site, the crew behind Star Mazer DSP had a booth at the show on the sixth floor indie scene.

14

The Behemoth had an entire arcade of playable titles from both past and present at PAX West for attendees to try.

15

Capcom’s Street Fighter V is no stranger to the convention scene, the game had several demo stations lining Capcom’s booth.

16

Futuristic racer DISTANCE had this trippy but small booth as part of the PAX Rising selection at PAX West.

17

Harmonix’s green room for the 4 person bands @ PAX West was absolutely rockin’!

18

Dawn of War III was finally playable @ PAX West, unlike it’s Demo Theater showing at E3.

19

WETA Workshop’s booth was full of creative wonders.

20

The Rooster Teeth booth had a lot to offer fans of RWBY, Red Vs Blue and the site’s other properties.

21

World of Warcraft: Legion Dominated Blizzard’s booth, allowing fans to try out the recently released limited time “Broken Shores” in-game event.

22

Fans try out the R.W.B.Y game, recently released on Steam, at the Rooster Teeth booth.
