Report: Square Enix Recoups Final Fantasy XV Development Costs

Posted on February 7, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Seems that Noctis, Gladio, Prompto and Ignis succeeded in one particular mission the first day that Final Fantasy XV was available to the public – breaking even on its development costs. The game’s director Hajime Tabata stated to DualShockers during a recent visit to the company’s Japanese offices for their Business Development Division that the game was profitable right from the start. Final Fantasy XV was a monumental success in the West with Square announcing that sales of the game had exceeded 5 million units on launch day so it is no surprise that Tabata & Co broke even right out of the gate.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Gone Gold

Posted on February 7, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

It appears that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has gone gold according to a tweet by Monolith Soft developer which Google Translate reads as “A certain title launch party at a certain hotel in Kyoto”. Is this one game the next entry in the Legend of Zelda series? According to Neo Gaf user Steiner this is indeed the case. It would make sense for Breath of the Wild to go gold considering it will ship alongside the Nintendo Switch in less than a month on March 3rd. Here’s the original untranslated tweet: 京都の某ホテルで某タイトルの打ち上げ会♪いやー完成して良かったー\(^o^)/♪ pic.twitter.com/kLvKfTD7nK — 本根 康之 (@honnesan)

I Made A Game About 2000s Instant Messengers Thanks To LoveJam

Posted on February 6, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Developing video games isn’t something that I can confess to have a large amount of knowledge about but alas I’ve spent the past year or so learning the basics of Unity 3D and C#. This past weekend I took part in Love Jam, a 72 hour game jam that Simeoens, Mientje and Kenny Guillaume set up to not only celebrate the theme of love but also a friend’s upcoming marriage. Here is how the organizers described their event: “A friend of ours is getting married and asked us if we could make a game for the occasion.  Loving gamedev and game

The Intro To Torment: Tides of Numenera Has Me Hooked

Posted on February 6, 2017 by Les Major

Torment TON Title
In a pleasant surprise today, inXile provided me with an Early Access key to Torment: Tides of Numenera. I have to admit, it’s taking a LOT of willpower to not just get back into the game and ignore my regular duties. One kicker that is keeping me away is I don’t know if my early access save will carry over or not, so there is that at least. That and responsibility and all that good stuff of course. The best thing about Torment is how it feels like an early 2000’s RPG, and that truly is a plus. Built on

Posted on February 2, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Zenimax, the parent company of publisher Bethesda Softworks, announced recently that they have acquired Dallas-based developers Escalation Studios. If you haven’t heard of the folks at Escalation Studios before I wouldn’t blame you but they have worked on a number of smaller titles as well as collaborated with other studios on AAA titles. Most recently they worked alongside id software on the 2016 DOOM Reboot and prior to that their website states that they’ve collaborated on the Call of Duty franchise as well as past entries in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series. In the press release announcing the acquisition,

EA Disappointed With Titanfall 2 Sales But Remains Committed To The Series

Posted on February 2, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

During Electronic Art’s most recent earnings call executives from the company discussed the company’s view on Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2. It turns out that despite large amounts of critical acclaim, especially for its’ single player campaign, and high user satisfaction scores this FPS sequel failed to live up to EA’s expectations. Even in the face of disappointing sales numbers, EA has recommitted itself to the support not only the already released 2016 sequel but also the franchise as a whole. Titanfall 2 will continue to see new maps, modes and cosmetic DLC released throughout its life, it is not known
