Nintendo’s Latest Mobile Game Is Full of Charm & Silly Moments

Posted on May 28, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The big N has been pretty consistent with their mobile offerings despite the fact that the majority of them have been developed by third parties. Magikarp Jump is the company’s latest attempt to bring the world of Pocket Monsters to our smart devices and unlike last year’s very faithful translation, Pokemon Go, Magikarp jump knows that it stars a flailing joke of a Pokemon and takes that to its logical conclusion. I was kind of blindsided by the release of Magikarp Jump just a little under a week ago, I hadn’t played Select Button’s (the developer of Magikarp Jump) other

No shortage of colourful characters at Anime North

Posted on May 28, 2017 by Jason Nason

Anime North has come and gone for another year. The streets and hotels around the International Plaza hotel and the Toronto Congress Centre have gone from plain and ordinary to colourful and full of character and back again. For anyone not aware of the annual celebration of anime and pop culture the sidewalks lining Dixon Street near the airport looks like something out of a movie. Mixed in with the scores of people walking up and down the sidewalks in and around the TCC are people dressed up in wild and amazing costumes. The cosplayers are out in full force.

Jeff Kaplan Aware of Overwatch Community’s Concerns About Anniversary Loot Boxes

Posted on May 26, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Overwatch’s 1st-year-anniversary event is well underway with the first week of the three-week celebration almost complete. Now, game director Jeff Kaplan has acknowledged that the development team is aware of players complaints surrounding the drop rate of the coveted event only skins. Unlike previous events where the limited time skins came in a variety of rarities ranging from the rare blow to the high-quality blue drops to the epic quality orange legendries. The anniversary skins not only don’t encompass the entire 24 hero line-up but because they’re only available as legendaries a number of loot boxes needed to open to

Posted on May 25, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Platinum Games’ hypermobile third person shooter  Vanquish is no longer contained to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 with the release of a Windows PC port on Steam today.  Directed by Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame, the original version of Vanquish was released in October of 2010 and was received favorably at the time drawing comparisons to 2D bullet hell shooters. Set in the near future players take the role of DARPA agent Sam Gideon who pilots a highly advanced Augmented Reaction Suit (ARS) which allows him to enter a bullet time like state when low on health. Overwatch’s Anniversary Event Is Upon Us

Posted on May 23, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The teased Overwatch anniversary event has descended onto Blizzard’s servers as promised. This update brings a whole selection of new skins (although sadly not every hero receives one), brand new emotes for all heroes including some hilarious dance emotes and a whole pile of common items that will remain in loot boxes after the anniversary event concludes. Also added were three brand new “arena maps” that will provide some much-needed variety to the elimination modes. Here is a small sampling of some of my favorite new skins: The following heroes received new time limited skins for the anniversary event: Pharah

Fractured Space Gets Improved Matchmaking

Posted on May 20, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Fractured Space
Edge Case Games’ space faring MOBA hasn’t exactly caught on the way other games within the genre have but that hasn’t deterred a small but dedicated fanbase from enjoying the game. One of the more common complaints about Fractured Space has been the long queue times which can range anywhere from 5 – 10 minutes depending on the number of concurrent player, their skill ranking and the time of day. To ease the pain of long wait times Edge Case is implementing a change to the matchmaker – if they’re aren’t enough players in the pool to fill an entire AI Vs

Today the adorable Cat Peach & Cat Mario held a indie developer focused “Nyandies Special” over on the Nintendo Japan YouTube channel.  Even if you don’t speak Japanese (as I do not) you might still recognize that the announcement of Owlboy for Switch is a world reveal.  Other big games featured in this presentation include the already available Fast RMX, Mr.Shifty and Shovel Knight as well as the yet to be released Steam World Dig. I find the Cat Peach &  Cat Mario puppets to be absolutely adorable and endearing and I wish Nintendo of America used them. Why NOJ
