Remembering The Work of Iconic Horror Director George Romero

Posted on July 21, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

About a week ago the horror community lost the master behind the modern zombie genre itself – George Romero. Romero’s genius reanimated itself first in the black & white classic Night of the Living Dead in 1968, which had set some of the conventions still in use to this day – Zombies needing to feed off of the flesh of the living, a bullet to the head being the only surefire way to dispatch them and something that would become a staple of Romero’s work, Zombies as a political metaphor for consumerism. It is always a sad thing to see one of the creative minds that

Astervoid 2000 | Review

Posted on July 18, 2017 by Broken Joysticks

Guest Review By: Azzuen O’Connor Astervoid 2000 is a totally awesome and difficult throwback to the old days of arcade cabinet multiplayer space shoot em ups. It wouldn’t be unfair if your mind went straight to Bizarre Creations (RIP) 2005 smash hit, Geometry Wars or the 1980s Asteroid games that inspired it after seeing Astervoid 2000 in action. Right off the bat, I want to say this game has a really awesome soundtrack that sticks to the genre’s roots of being sort of remixed electronic soundtracks reminiscent of the golden days of video arcades during the 80s and 90s. The soundtrack

ARMS | REVIEW

Posted on July 17, 2017 by Les Major

Out of the games shown prior to the launch of Nintendo’s new Switch console, Arms stood out as one that really surprised me. The controls were a lot more stable than things like the old Wii Sports boxing that came with their first motion controller system. Not only that but the JoyCons give a different feel to fighting with the Wiimote and nunchuck. Instead, you have a joystick at the ready for menu options, and can press one of the top bumpers to accept your options. That and holding a JoyCon in each fist to punch feels natural. The bumpers

Arc System Works Announces New Crossover Fighting Game: Blazblue Cross Tag Battle

Posted on July 17, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The developers responsible for the Guilty Gear and Blazblue series of fighting games has announced their latest project – a colorful crossover between Person 4 Ultimax, Blazblue, Under-Night: In-Birth….. and RWBY! So this tag-team fighting title is not only a “best of” when it comes to characters from some of the more recent non-Capcom Japanese fighters out there, but characters from Rooster Teeth’s popular web series will also jump into the fray as well. A list of confirmed character so far is scant at best – Hyde Kido from Under-Night (which was developed by Melty Blood devs Ecole Software), Yu

Kingdom Hearts III Visits The World of Toy Story, Release Window Announced

Posted on July 15, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

At the D23 Expo Square Enix dropped a brand new 5-minute trailer for the conclusion of Sora’s adventures, Kingdom Hearts III. For the first time in franchise history players will guide Sora & friends through a world based off of a Pixar property – fittingly enough it is based upon the first film to put Pixar on the map, 1995’s Toy Story. Watching Buzz and Woody interact with Sora, Donald and Goofy is a treat in itself but this new footage has so much more to offer us. Sora using a hand drill to launch spikes out of the ground?

YouTube service for Nintendo Wii has ended

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Jason Nason

As of June 28th, 2017 the YouTube app for the Nintendo Wii no longer functions. The termination of the app isn’t entirely unsurprising considering that the Wii is now two generations old, however with the massive saturation of the console in the marketplace it is somewhat disappointing. The end for support of the app comes as part of a larger initiative by YouTube to phase out its availability on older devices. The move is also likely partially determined based on usage of the Wii app, which has likely declined with the introduction of the Wii U and Nintendo Switch, as

Player Made FFXIV Music Video Is a Work of Art

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Final Fantasy XIV YouTuber denmomcstronghuge has been publishing videos set in Eorzea for awhile now but his latest work – “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” – is both a stunning tribute to the many different zones featured in the game’s latest expansion and a marvel of editing mastery. It is easy to see why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” will be appealing to both longtime players, newcomers and even those unfamiliar with the MMORPG. The video featuring some catchy Japanese Electronica and breathtaking time lapse panoramas as we follow a female Aura through some of Stormblood’s new zones. This is only the tip of the iceberg as to why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” is such an achievement. Denmo’s seamless editing makes it appear

SEGA proves that it’s still thinking when it comes to adding Dreamcast games to their new SEGA Forever service with their latest announcement. Okay, Okay – silly references to long dead advertising slogans aside – players on Android and iOS will soon be able to hit the tennis court for free with the addition of Virtua Tennis Challenge to existing line-up. Virtua Tennis Challenge is heavily based on the home console release of Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast from 2000 but has been modified to work within the restrictions of mobile devices. A 5 Year Old Freemium Sims Game Is My Mobile Guilty Pleasure

Posted on July 11, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Sims has been a staple for simulation fans for the better part of two decades now, the original (released in 2000) is almost old enough to drink in the United States.  While I’ve been a fan since the first iteration, I can’t profess to have partaken in any of the mobile entries in the franchise with the sole exception being The Sims 3 on the Nintendo 3DS, which I found to be so sub-par it wasn’t worth playing. Perhaps that is why it is so perplexing to me that my mobile vice at the moment is a five-year-old Sims
