Nintendo 3DS System Updated to Version 11.6.0-39U

Posted on September 19, 2017 by Jason Nason

It’s been a few months since the last system update, with the last update in July, but the Nintendo 3DS firmware has been updated again. This is a very minor update which updates the 3DS system from version 11.5.0-38U to version 11.6.0-39U. There aren’t any big changes in this update, with the only text on the update the very same as the previous updates. The text from Nintendo as follows: “Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.” This update is required to access online services.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle | Review

Posted on September 19, 2017 by Meghan Kass

When Ubisoft and Nintendo decided they wanted to join forces to create a mashup of two great franchises, both had some great characters to chose from. The most obvious choice of franchise from Ubisoft would have to be the Rayman franchise and Nintendo could never go wrong using Mario to contribute to a game. One might think Ubisoft would use Rayman himself to team up with Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom crew and also his colorful friends such as Globox, Betilla the Fairy and maybe even an Annetta Fish, but then Ubisoft surprised everyone by using one of the most

Overwatch’s Junkertown Map Now Live Along With D.VA & Mercy Changes

Posted on September 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Today is a big day for Overwatch fans as the mid-September patch bringing additional damage to the Starcraft playing D.VA, a major rework for the German doctor Mercy and our first playable glimpse of post-apocalyptic Australia with the Junkertown map.  Junkertown  We previously covered this brand-new escort map which introduced us to one of the fandom’s favorite new (off-screen) characters – the Queen of Junkertown. Junkrat’s former home also played host to the last Overwatch animated short ‘the plan’ which hilariously featured Junkrat and Roadhog scheming to gain re-entry into this locked down settlement, only to fail spectacularly. You too can now escort an adorable Pachimari with a golden crown to the goal.  Here is Blizzard’s official description of the map: Junkertown is located in

Square surprises with Octopath Traveller for Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 17, 2017 by Jason Nason

So I was caught caught off guard with the announcement of a title that wasn’t on my radar but has quickly caught my attention. That game is a brand new RPG offering from the fine folks at Square Enix called Project Octopath Traveler (working title). The game is being developed by the producers of Bravely Default at Square Enix and is a new RPG brought to life through a mixture of CG, pixel art and visual wizardry. Project Octopath Traveler launches worldwide in 2018. But there is already a free demo for the game in Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.

Battleborn Reaches The End of Its Life

Posted on September 17, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Gearbox Software’s FPS / MOBA mash-up Battleborn will see its final update released later this fall and while the servers will remain online “for the foreseeable future” the game will not receive any new content or patches.  Pretty sad for a game that went Free to Play less than three months ago – but remember in Gearbox’s own words, Battleborn was never F2P but simply an “unlimited demo”.  You might remember the short-lived Overwatch Vs. Battleborn “rivalry” that sprung up in May 2016 after both games were slotted for release that same month. Both games had a few similarities – a roster of hero characters with unique abilities, FPS gameplay with different objective

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider Launch Trailer Released

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is out on Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This standalone sequel to last year’s Dishonored II also provides Billie Lurk with the starring role as the playable protagonist for this entry in the Dishonored franchise.  Billie does not have “the mark of the outsider”, instead she has her own unique set of abilities allowing her to plan a bank heist, enter underground fight clubs and ultimately take down the Outsider and bring a close to the plotline of Dishonored II.  Content Warning: Bethesda’s recently released launch trailer does mature content including graphic violence and at least one beheading.

New Layton game on the way in October

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Jason Nason

Despite the fact that I have yet to actually try any of the previous games in the series there was one game that I’m pretty interested in trying. The games is the latest in the Layton series from Level 5 and comes to the Nintendo 3DS in October. Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy arrives on October 6th and is the next game in the franchise. The puzzle solving / adventure title is a single player affair and features a brand new adventure in the Layton series, this time with a female protagonist.

Quake Champions Developers Discuss Network Improvements & Future Content

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Every week developers from id Software take to Twitch.TV to discuss upcoming content, balance passes and other changes coming to Quake Champions. They also dedicate a good amount of time to answering questions from the community – whether these questions have been gathered from the Bethesda forums, official GC discord or social media.  Last week’s stream, held on September 8th, featured a number of questions surrounding the possibility of new content – specifically themed seasonal events akin to those done for Overwatch and purchasable shaders. Other questions of interest included what the devs are working on to combat “rubber banding” (other player avatars moving erratically or not playing the correct animations) and Rockets which

Posted on September 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Do you have fond memories of playing the original 3 Mario Party games on the Nintendo 64? Never played one of the classic games from almost two decades ago? The Big N is curating the top 100 mini games from the series history and remaking them on the 3DS with the announcement of Mario Party: The Top 100, due out this November.  With support for download play, friends who don’t own a copy of the game can still get in on the action. Sine Mora EX Has A Date With The Nintendo Switch

Posted on September 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Sine Mora EX – the beautiful 2.5D shoot’em up co-developed by Grasshopper Manufacture and Digital Reality makes a pass at the Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe thanks to THQ Nordic. In this sometimes-brutal bullet hell title, players guide a three-dimensional ship along the X and Y axis while avoiding the sea of oncoming bullets. Complimenting the vibrant art style is a unique health mechanic where each stage has an allotted amount of time – taking damage speeds up the countdown while routing enemies adds time back to the countdown clock.  Several enhancements have been made when compared with the 2012 original for the Nintendo Switch release including support for 16:9 resolutions, full English voice over, an improved

100 Person Elimination Added To Fornite In Upcoming Battle Royale Update

Posted on September 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The battle royale formula should be pretty familiar to anyone who has watched/played popular games like Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, H1Z1 or even the most recent Grand Theft Auto V online expansion. 100 players parachute down onto a small section of the map and must scavenge for supplies and be the last person standing before a toxic cloud or plague wipes them from the face of this earth. It is a successful formula and can lead to moments of tensions almost unrivaled from other action sub-genres.  Epic Game’s currently buy-to-play survival/tower defense hybrid Fortnite joins in on battle royale fun with an upcoming addition – ‘Battle Royale PVP’.  Hoping to stand out from the rest of the pack with its

The Internet Celebrates The 18th Birthday of SEGA Dreamcast

Posted on September 10, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA Dreamcast
It is that time of year once again where we look back at SEGA’s last home console – the Dreamcast. Powered by a then beefy 200 MHZ Hitachi processor and boasting 16MB of RAM, the specs on the DC might seem absolutely laughable by today’s standards but SEGA’s first party developers transported us to fantastical worlds with just as much computing power as you might find on a 2007 smartphone. Considering that this anniversary is the console’s 18th birthday, several video game outlets, former executives (like former SEGA of America VP Peter Moore) and developers marked the occasion with a
