DotA 2 Announced To Be Free-to-Play

The sequel to the mega-popular Warcraft 3 mod, Defence of the Ancients 2 (DotA2) has been announced to be free-to-play once the game releases. Valve CEO Gabe Newell also says it’s going to be free-to-play with a few twists to it. Facebook’s Purchase Policy Sparks Multimillion Dollar Lawsuit

Is Facebook doing enough to prevent underage users from purchasing digital goods using their parent’s credit cards? This question is at the center of a multimillion dollar lawsuit launched in California. The lawsuit alleges that giving minors the ability to purchase ‘Facebook Credits’ goes against California’s consumer protection legislation.

Angry Birds Space Flings Into UK Retail

Angry Birds space finally descended from orbit to land safely in retail shops in the United Kingdom this weekend. Publisher Focus Multimedia released Rovio Entertainment’s latest bird flinging simulator as a packaged product. For just 10 pounds you too can secure a boxed copy of Angry Birds Space and help destroy those nasty pigs. The mobile version of Angry Birds Space launched on iOS and Android for $0.99 and free respectively early last month. The game features over sixty levels with the promise of more to come and new mechanics like gravity wells and asteroids. Check out the full press

Reminder: Xbox Live Entertainment Apps Free This Weekend

A reminder to all of you Xbox Live Silver members out there that several of the “entertainment apps” on the Xbox 360 are free until Monday April 23. Now you too can watch Netflix, YouTube or Dailymotion without working over at least $4 a month to Microsoft. Or you know, you could always use the flash enabled browser on a PlayStation 3 and visit most of these sites free of charge. I hear they also have the internet on computers now! Nintendo Announces New Super Mario Bros 2, Coming This August

The third entry in the New Super Mario Bros series was announced this evening by Nintendo via streaming conference. Super Mario Bros 2 will be released this August in Japan according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Alongside the announcement and the reveal of the game’s logo, which you can check out above, a few screenshots are making the rounds/ Interestingly the game seems to be inspired by the classic Super Mario Bros 3 (1990, NES). New Halo 4 Artwork Showcases Single Player Campaign

A number of choice Halo 4 screenshots have found their way on to the internet thanks to All Games Beta. These new screenshots go beyond the Red Vs Blue multiplayer mode that was revealed earlier this week. Rumor: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 To Be Revealed Next Month?

Activision may be set to reveal the next installment in the Call of Duty Franchise early next month. Both Kotaku and IGN report that retailers have received promotional artwork suggesting that the next COD title will be revealed on Wednesday May 2nd 2012. All of the promotional material carry the tagline “05.02.12 Return for Debriefing”. The last few Call of Duty titles have had spring reveals in recent years. Star Wars the Old Republic Already In Decline

Star Wars: The Old Republic might already be on the downslide. A new analyst report from Cowen and Company has is suggesting that the ambitious new MMO has been facing a decline in subscriptions, with a peak of 1.7 million players in February down to a forecasted 1.25 million at the end of the fiscal year. Analyst Doug Creutz believes that EA’s heavy marketing could be a sign that a decline is a very real threat. Including offering free trial subscriptions and free-periods for already invested gamers, this has been causing quite a stir within the fan community.

Legends of Pegasus Gameplay Trailer Released

Kalypso has released a gameplay trailer for their upcoming 4X space game Legends of Pegasus. My inner Ming the Merciless loves this genre because its games allow you to do things like enslave the entire population of conquered planets or convert them into an edible paste. Risen 2: Dark Waters Delayed on Consoles

Deep Silver has just announced a new release date for their pirate RPG Risen 2. While the PC version is still on course for a digital release on April 27, console players will have to wait until July 31st (or April 3rd for those who foolishly decided to live outside of North America).
