Nintendo to Release Silver Mario amiibo

Posted on May 14, 2015 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced today the release of another new amiibo, which I will never get my hands on. A new Mario Silver Edition amiibo figure is slated for release on May 29th and while the figure is still a few weeks from hitting store shelves, the figure has already disappeared from some online retailers. The silver Mario figure has quickly sold out on Amazon.ca, but at this time Best Buy is still taking preorders. With quantities certainly limited that may not last very long.

A-Train 3D: City Simulator | REVIEW

Posted on May 14, 2015 by Jason Nason

Anyone that knows me knows that I’m a big transit guy. I love buses and trains alike, so the thought of a game where I can design my own train and bus network? That’s my kind of game. In fact when I saw the title of the game pop up I was taken aback as I’ve played this game before, at least one of it’s predecessors. I originally played A-Train WAY way back on the original PlayStation. Released by Maxis it was a fun game back in the day, but I remember being frustrated by the game. Perhaps it was

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Sure Looks Pretty

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

I’m going to let you in on a secret. I don’t play open world games for the amazing stories or any of that. Usually I’ll just plunk myself down and wander the landscape in free play. After all, many artists lovingly crafted a world to be explored, who am I to deny their vision? So I wander, taking in all that is around me. Oculus Rift is going to feel like Sword Art Online to me. Anyway! Back on topic. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate has a fantastic Victorian London landscape to explore. Just from the trailers released today it’s clear this

Caffeine Crowdfunder Could Do With Some Love

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

Speaking of crowdfunding, there’s a space adventure out there that could use some love. Even if you can only afford to donate the price of a good cup of java. Caffeine sees you wakening on a mining ship with no knowledge of who you are, or any memory at all. You’re a young boy, which explains the low view point. That’s it. The demo released so far shows various rooms around the ship and features some sticky notes and at least one audio log that I could find. It’s well done and with the Unreal 4 engine being used you

The Star Studded Cast Of The New King’s Quest

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

We knew King’s Quest was going to be a great adventure back into the world many of us old school PC gamers know and love, but todays development diary shows us an amazing cast of incredible actors lending their talents to the game! Right from the start, we’re introduced to the elder version of King Gram, voiced by… Christopher Lloyd! Doc Brown himself! The man I’d love to hire for my own productions if I had the choice! That’s just the start too! King’s Quest was exciting before, but now it feels like a new high budget animated release. In

Interview With Craig Howard On Geometry Wars 3

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

Geometry Wars 3 is great! Lucid Games not only made a fantastic next chapter but even added to it recently with a free upgrade that made the game more accessible and added 40 new adventure mode levels. FORTY NEW LEVELS! FOR FREE! The best part about that is, as basic as that may sound, each level in Geometry Wars 3 plays like it’s own gameplay mode. Giving you a stage, main theme, and unique general setup to each. That’s on top of all the levels already included in the game. Craig Howard of Lucid Games joined Darkain Arts Gamers for

Amiibo Tap Isn’t Just A Time Limited Demo Player

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

When I first heard about Amiibo Tap, I kind of glazed over it. Basically it sounded like I could play a time limited trial of a classic NES or SNES game. Of course we’ve been there and done that with other releases. We’re gaming press of course though, so we took a look to see what this new release was and were quite surprised! At first, the software sounds pretty bland. • Dozens of games and scenes to discover • Each amiibo figure unlocks a random game to sample included in this software’s selection of titles But then you get

I’m Not Alone In Wanting A New 2D Metroid-vania

Posted on May 12, 2015 by Les Major

Koji Igarashi won a victory for all gamers who have wanted more 2D Castlevania RPG styled action. In a stunning victory, his Kickstarter has almost generated a million dollars more than requested. It’s clear that gamers have been eager to play more of Iga’s creations. It’s wonderful that we’re getting a new Igavania as it’s being cutely called, but the way is certainly disheartening. Instead of the big exciting climax Castlevania was building to, we’ve had to go around copyright and support a new franchise in Bloodstained. Don’t get me wrong I’m sure Bloodstained will be fantastic and I’ll love

Live Stream: Watch Us Beat Up Chickens In Guacamelee

Posted on May 8, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

This month’s PlayStation Plus offerings included the highly acclaimed Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championshop Edition so for this week’s live-stream we decided to take this Mexican wrestling inspired brawler for a bit of a spin. Unlike last week’s live-stream this week features commentary by not only myself but occasional writer for Broken Joysticks Ben Longpre who last reviewed The Awakened Fate Paradox.  We talk about the game’s mechanics, what other games we are playing and reminisce about the launch of the PlayStation. Fair warning: I am pretty terrible at this game, so there is quite a bit of dying involved. I

Set Your Feels To Nostalgia Because Digimon Is Coming Back

Posted on May 6, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

If you grew up in the 90s then prepare to be overwhelmed with feelings of nostalgia because it has been announced that the Digimon franchise will be returning not as a 26 episode anime series but a six part movie series with the first film titled ‘Reunion’ due out on November 21st in Japan. For those not old enough to remember Digimon was a popular virtual pet / monster battle handheld popular in the late 90s that also had its own anime series. The anime was localized by Fox Kids and ran in North America from March 1999 until March 2003.

Impressions: Why I Stopped Playing Omega Quintet

Posted on May 6, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

I absolutely love a lot of Idea Factory International’s gaming properties and have been a fan of their work for the past 5 years ever since I imported a copy of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia for the PS3 back in 2009 due to the North American print of the game being quite limited. Unfortunately their latest title Omega Quintet left such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to put the game down and I haven’t picked it up since.

The Last of Us’ Left Behind Gets Stand Alone Release

Posted on May 1, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Left Behind the critically acclaimed prequel DLC for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us will be released as a stand-alone title on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on May 12th for $9.99 (USD).  This add-on chapter to Naughty Dog’s last gem of a game tells the story of Ellie and Riley as they sneak out of bordering school to explore an abandoned mall before Riley joins the Fireflies resistance movement. I reviewed the PS3 version of The Last of Us back in June of 2013 and absolutely loved how it explored the relationship between the two main protagonists – Ellie
