Galactic Civilizations 2 gets surprise massive patch

Posted on December 31, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

It seems this is a month of reviving older games with massive patches. First we had a massive patch to Dwarf Fortress, and now fan favorite massive space RTS Glactive Civilizations 2 (2006, Stardock software) is getting what can only be called a full re-work patch. 2.20 is what the patch official name is.  the patch notes are after the jump but they take up a full three pages of text in the post on the developers website.  Perhaps this is the start of something new? An age of patching fan favorite but out of date games with still active

Underrail: A First Look

Posted on December 31, 2015 by Broken Joysticks

Where do I start with Underrail? No, really, where do i start? not just the review,  but in the game itself? At first the game seems very streamlined, but I found myself lost even in the initial quest, even if it was largely due to my own mistakes. I first went into the railway system, finding death at every turn, wasting a full five hours before encountering the correct path back, where I started at the elevator, heading back in, to find the Cave system I was intended to explore.

This year was great, but when can I play all of these games?

Posted on December 31, 2015 by Chelsea Richards

Let’s be real, 2015 was a fantastic year for gaming. Of course, there were some misses like the monetization for Battlefront and EVOLVE, and… whatever the hell happened to the PC release of Arkham Knight. But, stepping away from those, it’s after Christmas, so let’s look at our definite hits that we have, and enjoy 2015’s gifts to us. We were rewarded with not-one-but-two solid MMO expansions, through Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, and Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, both building significantly on the groundwork by their previous launches and content updates. Keeping in the multiplayer line, we were graced

Splatoon’s Free Content To Dry Up Next Month

Posted on December 30, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nintendo’s take on the competitive shooter, Splatoon, has managed to stay fresh for the past seven months thanks to a steady stream of free content – including new maps, outfits and weapons – since it launched this past May. It seems that the developers have finally decided to put an end to delivering new content to players and will instead focus on regular events like Splatfests and balance updates. Speaking on the subject, the game’s producer Hisahi Nogami said: “There are already 14 stages and over 70 kinds of weapons. So if they add even more, it would be hard

Is Fire Fall finally at its end? Red5 and their game are in trouble we try to find out why

Posted on December 30, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

The headline that greeted me was “Firefall studio Red 5 couldn’t make payroll on Christmas Day” I suddenly felt nostalgic. Red5 I said? Firefall? The game with thumpers and chosen and the melding had been a home to me and a few of my closest friends for a period of an about a year between its mid and late stage Beta testing. An MMO fps, with an open world, Fire fall promised a lot and delivered on very little. So I thought to myself what killed Red5? And their brainchild and babby Fire Fall? Was it the lack of content?

Transistor crosses 1 Million sales

Posted on December 30, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Tiny developer Super Giant Games  is no stranger to sucess. Their previous isometric styled RPG story game, Bastion was also a huge success, so it should come as very little surprise that their second time Transistor is also a success. According to the developer the game has sold more than one million copies as of December of this year. This is no doubt helped along by the fact that the game is now multiplatform, having jumped the gap and been added to the Ps4 earlier in the year. “We feel incredibly fortunate to be able to stick together as a team and
