Street Fighter V | Review

Posted on February 16, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Street Fighter V
Review by special guest editor: Robyn Robo Almost exactly 7 years since Street Fighter IV came out for PS3, Xbox and Windows, Street Fighter V has released. With support for only two platforms at launch, PS4 and Windows, this is a more limited release. SteamOS support is coming “this spring” apparently. Sorry Xbox gamers, I don’t see anything planned yet for you. Unlike the version heck of the last release with Super, Ultra and Arcade Editions, this is going to be a unified online platform with players on any system able to match anyone. Considering the time between releases, and with

AMD Reveals Which CPUs They Recommend For Use With Oculus Rift

Posted on February 15, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Owners of AMD hardware have been kept in the dark in terms of detailed specs for the upcoming Oculus Rift headset. Officially Oculus recommends that potential owners have a “Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater” but that does very little except give the reader the exact processor that they might need if they were gaming on an intel based rig. Thankfully AMD has stepped in with their own list of recommended processors for a smooth virtual reality experience. In general AMD is recommending that VR pioneers have at least a quad-core CPU running at 3.9GHZ minimum that is based upon the

Beta Report: Hitman on PlayStation 4

Posted on February 14, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix’s closed beta for their upcoming next generation Hitman title went live over the weekend and I got the chance to play around with the game on PlayStation 4 over the last couple of nights. Fans are calling 2016’s version of Agent 47 a return to form combined with some worries that IO Interactive’s choice of episodic content for their latest game may leave them with little content to play between optional updates.  If the closed beta is any indication than even the $15 intro pack will provide hours of shenanigans. At its core, Hitman is an assassination simulator

Doom’s Single-Player Campaign Is 13 Hours Long

Posted on February 14, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Doom
The developers of the Doom reboot have confirmed on twitter the campaign will be a hefty thirteen hours long. If you were worried about the game being a five hour romp largely focused on the multiplayer, as many shooters are these days, you can rest easy. Personally, I much prefer quality to quantity. I don’t really think it’s much of a positive if a game is thirteen hours long if I’m gonna be bored while playing it. Having said that, I expect that playtime is an important way to measure value for a lot of people, and having a long

Crash Bandicoot Reboot Possibly Leaked by NECA Toys Director

Posted on February 14, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Crash Bandicoot Reboot
Randy Falk, director of NECA Toys,  may have inadvertently let slip details about a revival of the Crash Bandicoot franchise. This is not too long after Sony teased a return of the old franchise on their Middle Eastern account.  Speaking to youtuber PixelDan, Falk said: “We’ve got back in with Sony. And looking at some of their other titles…I see they’re bringing Crash Bandicoot back, so there’s some great stuff there.” Sony has been doing very well this console cycle, with the PS4 easily occupying the spot of best-selling console of the generation.  Perhaps it’s this position that makes them

Nintendo Canada hosts Pre-Launch event in Advance of Fire Emblem Fates Release Next Week

Posted on February 13, 2016 by Jason Nason

Nintendo of Canada held a special pre-release event in Toronto on Friday evening, allowing the general public to get their hands on the game for the first time. The event was split between Birthright and Conquest, with the separate sides draped and lit in the colours of the respective themes. The game was playable for a short time on either side, with both games available to play. Overall the games look and play just like predecessor Fire Emblem Awakening, though there are some minor upgrades to the battles. These are mostly cosmetic, however they look great. Rather than just fading

Rumor: New Round of Nintendo Selects To Hit Canada On March 11th

Posted on February 13, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Canadian retailers might be receiving a new round of permanent discounted Nintendo titles thanks to the ‘Nintendo Selects’ label. Originally posted on the twitter account for retailer Video Games Plus before being permanently deleted. The below image has been making the rounds and if it’s accurate than games once considered rare, one off prints, like Super Mario All Stars for Wii & Pikmin 3 for Wii-U could be getting a new lease on life. All titles are listed at an MSRP of $29.99 CDN but considering they span three different platforms and two generations this pricing shouldn’t be taken at

Chaos rises in the new Trailer for Battle Fleet Gothic

Posted on February 13, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Warhammer 40,000 games are some of my favorite games I have ever played. The groundbreaking RTS Dawn of War from Relic Entertainment is still one of my most played steam games. So when I heard there was going to be a space game set in the 40K universe, it was an instant buy. Now just a few short months away from the release of Battlefleet Gothic: Armada we finally get our first look at the one of the other playable factions in the game: the Chaos. Chaos is perhaps the most dynamic faction in the game, with their ships warping

New Dead Island game confirmed by Australian Government

Posted on February 13, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Australia’s ratings board is pretty well known for spoiling major game reveals. So when PCgamer reports that they have broken the seals on a new Dead Island game, I am inclined to believe them. The classification site recently listed a new game called Dead Island Retro Revenge, which it slapped with an “M” rating for bloody violence and online interactivity. So Dead Island was pretty violent and bloody so no surprise there, and online suggests it will hopefully be in the same vein as the Dead Island games before with co-operative open world zombie killing action. unfortunately Australia’s game rating site doesn’t give
