The Grumpy Reaper | Review

Posted on March 11, 2016 by Jason Nason

Grumpy Reaper? Grumpy Gamer. The Grumpy Reaper is kind of a hard game to peg. On the surface it looks like it could be a pretty fun game, however once I started to play it there were things that nagged at me. In the game you take on the role of Grumpy, a gardener I think. Most of the story introduction is done though slides, and they were somewhat tough to follow. I got the gist of the plot of the game through the online description, though to be honest the story doesn’t really matter that much. Here is the

Blood Alloy: Reborn A good start but needs work

Posted on March 11, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Review by: Brandon Hall Blood Alloy: Reborn is a new early access game from Suppressive Fire Games. Its currently released in early access an introduction to the gameplay mechanics of a bigger game. Its tiny price tag of $13 is may put some people off, but it’s really just the start of a game. An early tutorial goes over just the basics of maneuvering and sliding, and leaves much open for interpretation. It also seems to be missing a story element altogether. The art style is great for any pixel art aficionado and the music is very well composed. But

16 years later, Diablo 2 gets a patch, still no cow level.

Posted on March 11, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

No you did not die. You read that correctly. 16-year-old Diablo 2 is being patched by its developer Blizzard. 5 years after its last patch, and over 3 years after its sequel, Diablo 2 is set to get a new patch 1.14.  Old games sometimes get patches from their developers, but like the recent Nethack update, this one is quite a surprise. Straight from Blizzard “This update focuses on system glitches introduced by modern operating systems, in related news, you can finally retire those old Mac PowerPCs. Included with the update is a shiny new installer for OSX.” additionally the post

Broken Bootlegs- Somari

Posted on March 10, 2016 by Erika

Somari title screen
Broken Bootlegs is a weekly series covering unlicensed games (also known as bootleg games) for mainly 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. This week’s edition covers possibly one of the most well-known bootlegs out there: Somari! As briefly mentioned in the first entry of this series, Somari is not only is a bootleg of one game, Sonic the Hedgehog, but also redone to star Mario! Developed by Hummer Team, known as Someri or Somari Team for this release, is standard fare of their in-house conversions of 16-bit games to the Famicom. Things are similar enough, while having that A+ bootleg quality one

Deponia Doomsday Review: “We call this place ‘The Waste of Time’”

Posted on March 10, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Review by Guest Editor: Luce Having never played a Deponia game before, I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into. 10 hours of time looping nonsense later, rather unfortunately, I still wish I didn’t. Deponia Doomsday follows the entirely unlikable lead character Rufus, as he self-narrates his way through time and space. Along the way he runs into a fairly large cast of characters, that range from the rather funny Nilbot (Chillbot, Killbot, Illbot), to the frankly offensive Manly-man-turned-manly-forced-transwoman Lotto (later Lotti). Confused by that description? Don’t worry, I’ll come back to it.

Stardew Valley has sold 425,000 copies

Posted on March 10, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

I wonder if Eric Barone ever thought that a game about farming would be his crowning achievement? Stardew valley started out as a way for Barone to learn to program, and in an interview with PCGamer, Barone has now confirmed that the game has sold over 425,000 copies as of yesterday. To put that in perspective, that is just 12 days after its launch.  You cant go anywhere on the gaming related internet with out seeing this game. My discord is full of pictures of people’s farms, its on Twitches list of top games for the last week straight, and videos of

New Pokemon Title Announced For Mobile Phones

Posted on March 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Pokemon Company and mobile developer HEROZ Inc (developer of smartphone Chess titles) have joined forces to announce a brand new title for smartphones in Japan.  No official title, press-release or gameplay synopsis has been released thus far. As far as we can tell the brief teaser video, which is entirely in Japanese, appears to be teasing a new virtual strategy board game for mobile phones. Honestly, the whole thing elicited a reaction of “what the hell did I just watch?” from BrokenJoysticks staff upon stumbling on the below video. The title of the video roughly translates (according to Microsoft

Posted on March 9, 2016 by Jason Nason

Renegade Kid released information via Nintendo Life on Friday that their upcoming title Mutant Mudds Super Challenge will be released in North America, Europe, and Australia on March 17th. We didn’t get a chance to play the original Mutant Mudds on the Nintendo 3DS, however we did play and review Mutant Mudds Deluxe for the PC and the game was great fun. We also downloaded the Nindie preview of MMSC for the Wii U and played thru the demo of the original 3DS title at length.

Riot Games acquires Radiant Entertainment

Posted on March 9, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Riot games (maker of League of Legends) is not a company you often see in the news. They tend to spend most of their time on League, because its one of the most popular games in the world. So I was surprised to see the news that they had acquired Radiant Entertainment. In a statement Radiant said “We are delighted to announce that Radiant Entertainment has been acquired by Riot Games. At Riot, our developers will continue their mission of building incredible games that speak to us personally as players. You’re probably wondering what this means for our games.” As for those

Darkest Dungeon update brings new class

Posted on March 9, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Darkest Dungon is a site favorite. Many of us have sunk over 100 hours in the game since its first release to early access, and it just keeps getting better. The developers have delivered yes another piece of free DLC in an update on Steam today. The new class, the Antiquarian,  sacrifices almost all of her fighting strength for the opportunity to haul more treasure back to your estate. Sounds a bit like a waste, but I remember plenty of missions where I would want more loot, or better loot from the end boss.

The Division Has The Potential To Get Quite Repetitive

Posted on March 9, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Division
Yesterday saw the launch of one of the most anticipated new gaming IPs in some time, Tom Clancy’s The Division. Like many other eager players I set aside time in my schedule to try out the full version of the game after putting several hours into the two betas that Ubisoft held earlier in the year and I was psyched to see what the full version had to offer. I woke up yesterday morning at 4 AM and after a few false starts I’ve logged just over 4 hours in the game as of the writing of this post.
