Nexon Closing Ghost In The Shell: First Assault On December 6th

Posted on September 29, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Nexon has announced that it will be shutter (“sunsetting”) the F2P first-person shooter Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex First Assault in four regions in early December. Players who purchased in-game currency will receive a refund of 100% if it was purchased before Feb of 2017, all other in-game purchases will be refunded at a rate of 50% but this does not apply to the initial purchase of the game client if bought through one of the several Early Access bundles sold before the F2p launch.  I enjoyed the 4 or so hours I spent with the early access version of Ghost In The Shell back in 2015.

Clockwork City DLC Now Available On Elder Scrolls Online Public Test Realm

Posted on September 19, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

A world of interlocking gears, steam power, golden metal, and robots might sound like a steampunk paradise envisioned by the wildest visionaries of the Victorian age of sci-fi but I’m actually describing the broad aesthetics of The Elder Scrolls Online‘s next major expansion known as The Clockwork City. Owners of The Elder Scrolls Online willing to install the near 80GB Public Test Region’s in-development client can accept the quest to explore the weirdly wonderful world of the Clockwork God,  Sotha Sil.  Here is Bethesda’s brief description of this new DLC zone and how players can accept the introductory quest: Clockwork City. Venture to the bizarre realm of Sotha Sil, the Clockwork God

100 Person Elimination Added To Fornite In Upcoming Battle Royale Update

Posted on September 12, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The battle royale formula should be pretty familiar to anyone who has watched/played popular games like Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds, H1Z1 or even the most recent Grand Theft Auto V online expansion. 100 players parachute down onto a small section of the map and must scavenge for supplies and be the last person standing before a toxic cloud or plague wipes them from the face of this earth. It is a successful formula and can lead to moments of tensions almost unrivaled from other action sub-genres.  Epic Game’s currently buy-to-play survival/tower defense hybrid Fortnite joins in on battle royale fun with an upcoming addition – ‘Battle Royale PVP’.  Hoping to stand out from the rest of the pack with its

The Internet Celebrates The 18th Birthday of SEGA Dreamcast

Posted on September 10, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA Dreamcast
It is that time of year once again where we look back at SEGA’s last home console – the Dreamcast. Powered by a then beefy 200 MHZ Hitachi processor and boasting 16MB of RAM, the specs on the DC might seem absolutely laughable by today’s standards but SEGA’s first party developers transported us to fantastical worlds with just as much computing power as you might find on a 2007 smartphone. Considering that this anniversary is the console’s 18th birthday, several video game outlets, former executives (like former SEGA of America VP Peter Moore) and developers marked the occasion with a

Final Fantasy Mobius X Final Fantasy XIII Cross Over Event Announced

Posted on September 5, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Square Enix is bringing the world of Gran Pulse to their collectible card game Final Fantasy Mobius with a brand new cross over event.  Packed with cameos from Lightning, Snow, and Hope from XIII as job cards and entirely new story content in the form of the “Lightning Resurrection Region” – there appears to be a bit of heft to this crossover. From now until September 14th Lightning will be available as an in-game job card when she will be replaced by both Snow and Hope on the 15th. Here are the details from the Mobius Final Fantasy website about

Overwatch’s Summer Games Are Now Live – Here Are The New Skins For 2017

Posted on August 8, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The summer games have arrived once again in the futuristic world of Overwatch. This year’s iteration of Overwatch’s first ever seasonal event sees some changes to the Lucio Ball mode, the addition of competitive Lucio Ball for those brave enough and of course both the unlockable skins from last year and a few brand new ones for those lucky few who happen to get them as drops (or have 3000 credits laying around). Returning Skins Last year heroes like Torbjorn, Mercy, Genji and Zarya got a single skin that represented their country to celebrate the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tracer received

Developer nDreams Brings Bloody Zombies to Xbox One, PS4, Oculus and HTC Vive This September

Posted on August 4, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

I probably lost you at the headline… Zombies and Virtual Reality? Is there a combination of things that been overdone in the past few years than immersive goggles and the undead? Well nDreams’ Bloody Zombies isn’t your typical wave based Zombie FPS title that has risen to flood the steam store as of late. It is more of a VR enhanced title with a cartoony art style and from the promotional trailers and materials looks like it will be one to keep an out on. Bloody Zombies is a cel-shaded 2.5D brawler with colorful cartoony graphics reminiscent of Cel Damage

An Extended Look At The Cancelled Doom 4

Posted on August 2, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last year’s Doom reboot was both a critical and commercial success that build upon the gruesome nature of the franchise’s past while introducing new mechanics like weapons with secondary modes and dismemberment. Before the “back to basics” reboot of “Doom” there was a numbered sequel in development at id that would see multiple iterations and reboots in the midst of a buyout by Zenimax (owners of Bethesda). Detailed in an excellent piece by Kotaku’s Jason Schreir in 2013: The project then known as “Doom 4” entered development sometime in 2007 and continued until ZeniMax acquired id Software in 2011. At

Steam’s Latest Free To Play Darling, Black Squad, Has Attracted Thousands of Concurrent Players

Posted on July 29, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The world of free to play games can be daunting with the amount of sheer choice available and if you’re not careful you might end up choosing a game that is more advertisement for the in-game cash shop than a proper video game. Thousands of Steam users – almost 8,000 concurrently at the moment of the writing of this article – have decided to download and try out this previously under the radar free to play shooter. On a weekend where Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is free to play for everyone, what could this imported and 3-year-old FPS from

Player Made FFXIV Music Video Is a Work of Art

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Final Fantasy XIV YouTuber denmomcstronghuge has been publishing videos set in Eorzea for awhile now but his latest work – “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” – is both a stunning tribute to the many different zones featured in the game’s latest expansion and a marvel of editing mastery. It is easy to see why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” will be appealing to both longtime players, newcomers and even those unfamiliar with the MMORPG. The video featuring some catchy Japanese Electronica and breathtaking time lapse panoramas as we follow a female Aura through some of Stormblood’s new zones. This is only the tip of the iceberg as to why “Find Your Dance, Eorzea” is such an achievement. Denmo’s seamless editing makes it appear

Virtua Tennis Is The Next Dreamcast Game To Be Added to SEGA Forever

Posted on July 13, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA proves that it’s still thinking when it comes to adding Dreamcast games to their new SEGA Forever service with their latest announcement. Okay, Okay – silly references to long dead advertising slogans aside – players on Android and iOS will soon be able to hit the tennis court for free with the addition of Virtua Tennis Challenge to existing line-up. Virtua Tennis Challenge is heavily based on the home console release of Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast from 2000 but has been modified to work within the restrictions of mobile devices. Featuring 18 different stadiums and a number of different

A 5 Year Old Freemium Sims Game Is My Mobile Guilty Pleasure

Posted on July 11, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

The Sims has been a staple for simulation fans for the better part of two decades now, the original (released in 2000) is almost old enough to drink in the United States.  While I’ve been a fan since the first iteration, I can’t profess to have partaken in any of the mobile entries in the franchise with the sole exception being The Sims 3 on the Nintendo 3DS, which I found to be so sub-par it wasn’t worth playing. Perhaps that is why it is so perplexing to me that my mobile vice at the moment is a five-year-old Sims

The Next ‘Tales of’ Title Will Be An F2P iOS Game

Posted on July 6, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Tales of the Rays, the next entry in the storied action RPG franchise will launch on iOS devices & Google Android later this summer Bandai Namco announced today. Like last year’s Tales of Link, Rays will be a free to play title with multiple currencies but it is not yet known how these currencies will be used and if the content will be gated behind a paywall. With the monetization details out of the way – what does Tales of the Rays have to offer that would put it on par with the regular console releases? Thanks to the increasing

Final Fantasy XIV Stomblood Impressions #2 – Vising The Great City

Posted on July 3, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

It has been a week since the launch of Stormblood, the latest expansion for Final Fantasy XIV and I thought it would be a perfect time to share some updated impressions now that I am several hours further into the expansion’s narrative. Unlike my last impressions entry, this one is not free of spoilers, be forewarned that ahead of this paragraph are bullet points that may contain story, quest and NPC related spoilers. If At First You Don’t Succeed, Try and Try Again Throughout the first four levels of the campaign (60 – 63) the Warrior of Light & Co.
