Paper Mario: Color Splash | REVIEW

Posted on October 12, 2016 by Les Major

Color Splash Intro
Paper Mario Color Splash is a comical and nostalgic entry in the franchise that almost takes on a 90’s PC adventure game vibe. With less emphasis on RPG elements in this release it may feel awkward at first, but it’s a worthwhile journey to take. Some of the set pieces along the way really make for great additions to the story. Other reviewers have touched upon some of the great moments like the Pirate Ship and Haunted Inn. Much of this content is decently lengthy and encourages exploration which really adds to that classic adventure game feel. I couldn’t decide

Ninja Usagimaru – The Mysterious Karakuri Castle | REVIEW

Posted on October 12, 2016 by Jason Nason

I like puzzle games, and there is something inherently satisfying when a puzzle game is also an action-platformer. Playing through many of the 3D Zelda games is a testament to just how popular this type of puzzle game can be. Ninja Usagimaru – The Mysterious Karakuri Castle is a side-scrolling puzzle platformer which combines the need to solve a physical puzzle in the level with also reaching the goal. While the game has all the markings of a fun game, the controls and responsiveness of the game are a little but clunky and it makes the experience of playing as

Splat the Difference | REVIEW

Posted on October 6, 2016 by Jason Nason

There are a lot of find the difference games out there, with tons of them for free games in the app stores. To be honest I haven’t played too many of them as they aren’t really my cup of tea. Sure they’re simple in practice, but I’ve often looked at a title shot and moved on. Heck, there are times when a game title and visuals looked rather interesting and it was the revelation that the whole game was spot the difference and I was too annoyed to even look any further. It’s refreshing that not only does Lightwood Games

Batman: The Telltale Series- Episode 2: Children of Arkham | REVIEW

Posted on October 2, 2016 by Meghan Kass

With a strong start to Telltale’s adaptation of DC’s Batman lore, can the next episode continue picking up momentum and make the next part of the story just as exciting as the first? I did not know what to expect going into this episode, considering I have found each Telltale game has it’s highs and lows during each series, but I had hoped for the best. What resulted after my time with the episode was a mix of feelings. The second episode picks up where the first left off. Without giving too much of the story away, Bruce is still

Destiny: Rise Of Iron | REVIEW

Posted on September 29, 2016 by Les Major

New Fallen Splicers
Considering it sounds like Bungie was hoping to have Destiny 2 out by now and Rise of Iron wasn’t originally in the cards, you’d be hard pressed to know it. In this expansion you venture into the plaguelands, a patrol area that overlaps some of the sections of classic Earth patrol with a new snowy theme. Along with the change in the weather comes signs of a vicious battle as well as strands of red vines called Siva, a nanite weapon that is growing out of control. By this point with Rise of Iron being the fourth Destiny expansion, you

Polara | REVIEW

Posted on September 24, 2016 by Jason Nason

I’ve played my share of runners with most of them being the endless variety. You run and run, avoiding enemies or other obstacles until you eventually fall. You try to beat out your top score or the scores others on a high score chart. But while Polara is a runner it’s not in the endless variety, which gives this game much more lasting power and makes it more satisfying to play. The year is 2140 and a civil war rages between the upper and lower classes, resulting in a militant defense initiative nation wide by the governing bodies. In an

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 | REVIEW

Posted on September 22, 2016 by Ellen McGrody

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 follows up on its predecessors with a strange proposition. Imagine you’ve grown accustomed to driving a car without brakes. You hit other cars, you die, so you learn how to avoid doing so. You follow the road, you swerve correctly, you do fine, right? Then, one day, your car suddenly has brakes. And, when you hit other cars, it takes a couple hits before you actually crash. This would be disorienting, right? Because you’d have to completely relearn how to drive that car. In Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, Pac-Man literally has a brake button.   Pac-Man Championship

Magic: the Gathering – Puzzle Quest | REVIEW

Posted on September 15, 2016 by Jason Nason

There are a lot of puzzle games, and even more of the matching gem style puzzle games. While Candy Crush seems to be the most well known game in the genre, I think the very first one that I ever played was Bejeweled. For the most part they’re pretty much the same thing. You match up gems of the same colour of three or more and they vanish. You then collect points and more gems fall to fill in the void. If the falling gems make more matches then you get a combo, more points, and so on. The goal

Retro-View: Okami HD (PS3)

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Review By Maria Maximoff Okami is without a doubt the best example of how a video game can be a work of art. From the moment you start your first playthrough you are introduced to a vibrant world inspired by Japanese culture. For anyone with a love for action adventure platformers this is the Capcom published classic is your dream come true, and it’s available in HD on PSN. I should start out by explaining my history with this game: Back in early 2006 I received my monthly edition of Official PlayStation Magazine in the mail, and to my delight

Adventure Labyrinth Story | REVIEW

Posted on September 13, 2016 by Jason Nason

Sometimes there are games, along with movies and other media, where if you haven’t experienced earlier titles in the series then you’re lost. You won’t know who the characters are, their motivations, or what exactly is going on. Luckily Adventure Labyrinth Story isn’t one of those games. While it may technically be the third game in a series, you won’t need to have beaten or even played the first two games. Adventure Labyrinth Story stands on its own and is definitely something to experience. Adventure Labyrinth Story takes place in the same locale as Adventure Bar Story and features many

Ambition of the Slimes | REVIEW

Posted on September 1, 2016 by Jason Nason

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews for games in the genre, you’ll know that I enjoy turn based strategy role-playing games. I’ve played and loved playing games like Final Fantasy Tactics (and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance) in the past, and more recently games like Fire Emblem Fates or Mercenaries Saga 2. So when I learned that Circle was making a spin off of Witch & Hero in this genre I jumped at the chance to check it out. Ambition of the Slimes is a great molding of the two. The game is very much a strategic role-playing game

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC 1-3 Review Recap

Posted on August 30, 2016 by Erika

Black Ops III
With Salvation and Call of Duty XP 2016 around the corner, I’ve finally had the chance to play the other DLC packs for Black Ops 3. After only having Eclipse for quite while, it’s a breath of fresh air into gameplay. In addition to that, it’s quite easier to get into active multiplayer lobbies. Due to how lobby playlists are setup for DLC users, if a player doesn’t have the multiplayer DLC, they wind up in their own playlist and wait for quite a while to get into a match. There have been times that I’ve waited over 10 minutes

Bound Review: A Game That Hits All The Right Beats

Posted on August 29, 2016 by Meghan Kass

In a summer that has allowed indie games and smaller titles to shine and show what they are capable of, Sony has added one more title to that list before the fall rush of major AAA titles begins. Bound, developed by Plastic, has taken the spotlight and used it to tell an emotional, heart wrenching story and manages to do so in quite a short amount of time. This is a game that will hypnotize you and definitely leave an impact on some long after it’s over. Bound’s strength is first and foremost in its story. In the game, you

Batman: a Telltale series episode 1- Realm of Shadows review

Posted on August 21, 2016 by Meghan Kass

Telltale is at it again with their newest episodic adaptation of Batman. Batman: The Telltale series episode 1- Realm of Shadows puts the decisions, detective work and adventures of the caped crusader and puts it in the hands of the player using their signature mix of point and click gameplay and quick time events. Being a long term fan of the development team and publisher, could I be impressed yet again by their newest series, or would this be a miss in a long line of home runs? Anyone who is familiar with a Telltale series, such as: Walking Dead,

LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens | Review

Posted on August 13, 2016 by Les Major

LEGO games have gone through many adventures. It’s a hit phenomenon that has even spun off a “toys to life” NFC game with LEGO Dimensions. The main franchise has kept a good track record of adding new content instead of just rehashing the tried and true gameplay. Sure, LEGO games feel familiar, but if you look back to the early days they really have come a long way. In LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the franchise adds some new and interesting goodies to once again expand upon that experience. Obviously the main reason to pick up this latest release
