Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time | Review

Posted on February 25, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Version tested: PlayStation 3 The Sly Cooper series was one of the more iconic franchises for the PlayStation 2. These interesting games (Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves) were centered around stealth mechanics and had you play as a good-hearted thief named Sly who lived in a world full of anthropomorphic animals. The series was fun and had a lot going for it. However, unlike other popular PlayStation 2 franchises, such as Ratchet & Clank, Sly and his merry band of thieves have been notably absent from this generation of

Dead Space 3 | Review

Posted on February 22, 2013 by Les Major

Version tested: PC Dead Space is a great game series. Roaming the USG Ishimura in the first game, then exploring Titan Station in the sequel was an absolute survival horror treat. There is that magic about Dead Space, and it’s the kind of game you can play with your friends around as you wander the halls watching out for Necromorphs and items to pick up. However, many fans, including myself, were scared the most to see the bright snowy landscape of Dead Space 3. Thankfully, these fears were unfounded.

Far Cry 3 | Review

Posted on January 29, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Version tested: PlayStation 3 Now for a game that’s been called Skyrim with guns, what can I really say about Far Cry 3? How about this game is one of the best examples of character development in a game to date! Far Cry as a franchise has always been somewhat lacking, with great ideas and horrendous execution. Far Cry 3 clearly sought to change all of that. So follow me dear readers and embrace the path of the warrior.

Scribblenauts Unlimited | Review

Posted on January 28, 2013 by Les Major

Version tested: Wii U Scribblenauts surprised gamers with the ability to write virtually anything that comes to mind in Max’s notebook and have it pop into the game to help solve puzzles. That concept has grown beyond just being confined to one level now and the game worlds introduced in Scribblenauts Unlimited are a welcome addition. This is especially true since the game is available for Wii U and PC, as well as DS this time around.

New Super Mario Bros. U | Review

Posted on January 15, 2013 by Les Major

There’s something about New Super Mario Bros. U that feels like a step onto new ground. First off, the map screen is a welcome change featuring winding pathways similar to Super Mario World. I know it’s just a simple cosmetic change, but with such little story in the side-scrolling games compared to the likes of Super Mario Galaxy, the world map gives more of an adventuring feel. I realize this is an odd point to start with, but I’m a huge fan of this and it’s a feature I’ve missed. New Super Mario Bros. Wii did a good job bringing it back,

18th Gate | Review

Posted on January 15, 2013 by Jason Nason

What’s the first thing you do when you buy any new game? You look at the instruction manual from cover to cover before even turning on the game? Weird! Me too! Okay, not really. The reality is that most of us don’t even crack the cover of the instructions unless we want to look at the pictures or if the game has a complicated and sometimes confusing controls *Ahem, sports games.* Let’s face it. Most games are either really intuitive or guide you through the basic steps to playing the game without spoiling anything. Most games. Not this one.

Persona 4: Golden | Review

Posted on December 18, 2012 by Kirk Williford

Golden. That’s perhaps the easiest and most accurate way to describe Atlus’ remake of one of the best RPGs on the PS2. Persona 4: Golden isn’t your average HD remake, though – not only does it have enough additional story-based content packed into it to make the game feel brand new, but updated visuals, new music, online connectivity and special features like the ability to watch recorded live concerts featuring in game music make this one of the best HD remakes on the market – and it’s only available on the Playstation Vita.

Zone of the Enders HD | Review

Posted on December 11, 2012 by Jason Bassett

Version Tested: Xbox 360 (Also available on PlayStation 3).  In March of 2001, Konami unleashed a new type of game on the world with Zone of the Enders. It was a completely different take on the Mech action genre and hailed as one of the very best the industry had seen. Zone of the Enders was developed by an in-house team at Konami, led by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima. In this version of the game, Zone of the Enders HD features both entries of the original Playstation 2 hits: Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: 2nd

Ragnarok Odyssey | Review

Posted on December 9, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Everyone has their own vices when it comes to video games. Whether it is killing civilians in Grand Theft Auto or enjoying social media games, there’s a guilty pleasure you don’t really talk much about. My guilty pleasure has been mob grinding dungeon crawlers filled with lots of loot and potential upgrades for my character. Sure, it is a JRPG sub-genre that doesn’t get a lot of attention, but that is why I was so excited to hear that Xseed was bringing Ragnarok Odyssey to the West. Unfortunately, I haven’t been this disappointed with a game in quite sometime.

Wonderbook: Book of Spells | Review

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Hoo boy I was not looking forward to this one. Harry Potter is a huge phenomenon all over the world and that is so for many reasons. Today we’re not here to discuss the excellent novels or the pretty good movies, we’re here to talk about the terrible, terrible licence games. None of the harry potter games have ever risen above decent in terms of quality in my opinion and unfortunately, Wonderbook: Book of Spells might just be one of the worst entries in the whole franchise. This game is clunky, ill-designed, and most of all boring. As such something

LittleBigPlanet Karting | Review

Posted on December 3, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

My Sackboy has been getting around lately. Platforming in his own games, duking it out with other Sony stars and  racing. LittleBigPlanet Karting, while usually developed by Media Molecule, was designed by United Front Games, makers of ModNation Racers and Sleeping Dogs. The game was released exclusively on PlayStation 3 with no word if the game will receive a future port on the Vita. Is sackboy a decent racer as he is a platformer? Find out

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed | Review

Posted on November 30, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

Cue old school Genesis SEGA jingle–that aura of nostalgia is in the air. Why you ask? Because the sequel to Sega’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing has arrived with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Released on November 18th, the game was released on multiple platforms including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U. There will be a handheld port for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita as well as PC releasing on December 11th. This review is based on the Xbox 360 version and the only differences between the console versions are exclusive characters where the Wii U version has a

Street Fighter X Tekken | Review

Posted on November 27, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Capcom’s fighting games have revitalized gamers’ interest in this once-dormant genre. Can they continue their success with a mash-up of two of the greatest fighting franchises in Street Fighter X Tekken? I got my mitts on the Vita version of the game and after spending several hours playing through the online, offline and extra modes I am ready to report on why you should or shouldn’t pick up Capcom’s latest.

Skylanders: Giants | Review

Posted on November 23, 2012 by Broken Joysticks

So how do I describe Skylanders: Giants? On the surface this would appear to be something far out of my experience, as I am not really the intended audience for this kind of game. But if My Little Pony can find an audience outside of its intended market then maybe I can find some enjoyment from  an overly colour saturated kid’s product.
