Killzone: Shadowfall | Review

Posted on November 24, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Killzone Shadowfall, a launch title I could not have been more exited for. I was a huge fan of Killzone 2 and Killzone 3. Those games were a science fiction call of duty with a story that examined interesting themes like war and morality. It is a franchise that I believe is unfortunately overlooked by many gamers. Previous Killzone games offered a more rewarding game play experience both single and multiplayer then any other first person shooter title to date. However, a series cannot rest on the laurels of it’s past it must improve and innovate in order to stay

Rune Factory 4 | REVIEW

XSEED Games' popular Harvenst Moon spinoff series Rune Factory 4 is a wonderful blend of action RPG, dungeon adventuring and farming elements that is a blast to play.

Pokémon X and Y | Review

Posted on November 9, 2013 by Jason Nason

It’s been a while since I’ve played a Pokémon game and I haven’t really played one since the original Pokémon Red way back in the day. Back when I picked up that game the craze in North America hadn’t yet begun. The television show wasn’t airing on television and kids weren’t gaga over trading cards. Heck, no one knew what the game was. Not even the guys at the video game store where I got my copy. The main reason why I grabbed the game was based on the description from a friend, another founding member of Darkain Arts Gamers.

The Guided Fate Paradox | Review

Posted on November 9, 2013 by Les Major

Taking a look at Celestia as the main focus instead of the Netherworld makes The Guided Fate Paradox a fresh and interesting title by the development team behind Disgaea. Much like the games setting, the system involved is unique as well. Technically you can think of this as angels and demons being trained differently, though you’re really training a new “god” in Guided Fate. Basically it seems like Celestia is looking for a new “god” to take over, and unlucky teenager Renya Kagurazaka has won a magical lottery that has chosen him as the new candidate to become “god” of

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness | Review

Posted on November 8, 2013 by Les Major

Finally, celebrating ten years later, we have a sequel to the original Disgaea. This all new game focuses again on Laharl, Etna, and Flonne after the events of the original. If you enjoyed the first game, odds are you’ll enjoy this one as well. It’ll draw you in, get you addicted, and leave you wanting to do just a few more item world runs. The first thing I noticed about D2 is that the levels are well crafted. While this is nothing new for the series, they seem just as solid here. In some ways, the occasional one seems to

Grand Theft Auto V | Review

Posted on November 8, 2013 by Jason Nason

Ever since I began playing video games so many years ago there is one game that I always wanted to play. My idea for an ideal game was one where you could live out a life as a character in a city or town. You could go anywhere and do pretty much anything. You could have a job, go to the store, drive around, talk with and interact with people and so much more. The Grand Theft Auto series is that game. I never played much of the original two titles but it was the franchise’s third game, which brought

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate | Review

Posted on September 9, 2013 by Jason Fayta

Version tested: PlayStation 3 Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate (hereafter Ultimate) is an expanded edition of Dead or Alive 5, arriving just under a year from its predecessor’s release. New stages and characters, along with new modes and system tweaks, define the “ultimate” package, but the simultaneous release of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate: Core Fighters, a free-to-play version of Ultimate, may be the version that gets newcomers into the series.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory | Review

Posted on September 8, 2013 by Les Major

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is the third in the series but was story friendly enough for me to be able to dive in and enjoy the game, even with it being my first adventure in this universe. The game feels like a hybrid between a visual novel and a JRPG. Not in the sense that you’re trying to date anyone, but more so the fact that there is just so much character interaction involved in the game; you do feel like you’re watching a visual novel, rather than playing a typical JRPG.

If My Heart Had Wings | Review

Posted on August 27, 2013 by Les Major

Having only had experience with dating sim style games in the past and not really a full visual novel like If My Heart Had Wings was a treat I wasn’t expecting. Instead of a choose your own adventure style dating game, players are given more of an episodic anime like feel as they experience the story. Over the course of the many hours the game spans, there are very brief decisions to be made. Think of this more like an extended dialogue session in a Disgaea game or such. You’re watching still characters, with occasional changes to emphasize emotion, with

Shadowrun Returns | Review

Posted on August 11, 2013 by Eric Bastelak

Shadowrun Returns is dead set on reminding us just how awesome a cyberpunk dystopia can be. Shadowrun Returns is about refusing to dance the political dance, or enslave oneself to a corporation. A Shadowrunner is the closest thing to free as any man or woman can be. How does this make Shadowrun Returns such a great experience? Read on and find out.

Dragon’s Crown | Review

Posted on August 6, 2013 by Jason Fayta

Final Fight, Knights of the Round, The Punisher, The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, Golden Axe, Double Dragon, and of course, Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara . . . any of these titles bring back memories–preferably fond ones? The beat’em up, as it’s so aptly referred to, is a genre that had its heyday in the ’90s, when arcades were still a thing, TGIF was the best damn night in television, and Star Wars: Episode I had yet to ruin everything. It was a genre, along with fighters, that dominated my childhood, and while the past few years have been kind to fighting fans,

Project X Zone | Review

Posted on July 29, 2013 by Broken Joysticks

Namco Bandai × Capcom × Sega. No, you’re not reading this wrong, Banpresto and Monolith Soft have joined together to co-develop Project X Zone. This is not a fighting game (sorry versus fans). Project X Zone is a tactical role-playing game featuring characters across popular series such as Street Fighter, Megaman, Sakura Wars, Resonance of Fate, Xenosaga, and Tales of Vesperia, among others. For the very, very few of you who played Namco × Capcom (not to be confused with Street Fighter X Tekken), this game is no surprise. The story is what is expected of crossover titles: an artifact is stolen from original

State of Decay | Review

Posted on July 28, 2013 by Les Major

State of Decay is a unique zombie survival adventure that mixes elements of Dead Rising with RTS ideas in an open world with safe house improvements. All of this adds up to a very enjoyable experience that can be approached several different ways. Sometimes you’ll find yourself using stealth to sneak past undead hordes, using bushes, similar to that of Assassin’s Creed; there will be other times when you’ll want to tackle a mission head on, and get into a vehicle to mow down the “Zeds”. The story begins with two survivors up at a camping site in the northern section of
