Steam Controller Review

Posted on November 26, 2015 by Broken Joysticks

Review By: Robyn Robo Valve has been releasing new in-house and licensed hardware at a breakneck pace lately, and the Steam Controller is a core component backing up their bid for the living room. Unlike classic console manufacturers, however, Valve has had to bend over backward in accommodating games built for the desktop and, overall, has done well.

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void Review

Posted on November 16, 2015 by Chelsea Richards

StarCraft’s Legacy Left No Void. After seventeen and a half years, StarCraft has certainly been with some of us for a long time. A good chunk of us may have enjoyed passing around a single copy and “Spawning” others on a LAN to play multiplayer with in our early gaming years. Heck, even from a gameplay standpoint its expansion “Brood War” is a shining pinnacle of the genre as a whole, loved and embraced by many. Unlike certain other Blizzard Entertainment launches, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void’s launch went off without a hitch, at least in North America, after

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 review: Here we go again all over again.

Posted on November 13, 2015 by Erika

Black Ops III
Please note that this review covers the PS4 version, and some features are not available for the PS3/Xbox 360 versions Treyarch does an amazing job once more with another installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 3. The series has come a long way from the World War II era setting of World at War, to Cold War settings of Black Ops 1, and the more recent near future settings of Black Ops 2 and now 3.  Just like Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch tries to keep the Call of Duty fresh and engaging for it’s fans,

I’m Ten Hours Into Fallout 4 And I think I’m Starting To Glow

Posted on November 11, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

The desolate wastes have been calling out to me ever since the anticipated reveal of Fallout 4 this past E3. Like the game’s main character, I too hid underground although figuratively speaking. For the past few months I ignored any small gameplay snippets, cell-phone videos and plot details that leaked out of Bethesda ahead of the game’s release. With the large steel doors of Vault 111 finally open as of yesterday I’ve finally got the chance to spend nearly ten hours in the Boston wasteland. Here’s a brief journey of my character’s journey from the relative safety of Vault 111

PlayStation Plus Review: November 2015

Posted on November 11, 2015 by Kenny Keelan

This month provides a little bit of the good, the bad, and the downright ugly on the PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection front, this month, and I’m here to provide you a little insight on what you’re getting, this month, in case you didn’t rush out and get the games already or missed out on them.

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition Review

Posted on November 2, 2015 by Kenny Keelan

This review was written using a digital copy of the game for PlayStation 4. There was a long time where I was an avid Dungeons and Dragons player – up until around the time Edition 3.5 came about – and there was a string of video games and novels that I followed as a result: the Forgotten Realms. These were games and novels that tied directly into the lore and the world that Dungeons and Dragons were apparently supposed to take place in.  Black Isle Studios created some of the best Forgotten Realms games ever, starting with titles like Baldur’s Gate and Icewind

Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax | Review

Posted on October 29, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Version Tested: PlayStation Vita Anime and fighting games are two things that have come hand-in-hand at least early as the success of Street Fighter II back in the early 90s. Whether discussing games that utilize anime tropes and art-styles like Melty Blood or games that feature anime characters from a number of high profile series – like Dengek Bunko: Ultimate Fighting Climax, the synergy between the two is obvious.  SEGA USA brings us a brand new fighting game for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita that features a number of characters from some of the best anime from the past

Tales From the Bordelands is Surprisingly Engaging

Posted on October 28, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Review by Hoodie Joy “what do you expect out of an episodic story based game?” I found myself asking this often. Tales from the Borderlands is my first of this genre, and I took the opportunity to review it because it seemed like a good way to try out episodic games. I loved both Borderlands 1 and 2, but this game is not either of those. Tales from the Borderlands was a pleasant surprise. I went into the game expecting a comedic game with somewhat likeable characters, that were more funny, than interesting or lovable. This might sound like a

Guitar Hero Live is a strong showing from a new studio

Posted on October 27, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

The first thing we need to get out of the way is that this is not a Harmonix game.  New developers Free Style Games have stepped up to the plate, and delivered the newest installment. So this is still guitar hero, but it’s not a Harmonix guitar hero. That being said, it’s still a great rhythm game, it  has plenty of new touches and only a few negative points that I might expect out of the first game of a new franchise. Guitar hero basically invented the rhythm genre, so it should be no surprise that it can now re-invent

Hands on with Zen Pinball 2: Balls of Glory | Review

Posted on October 20, 2015 by Erika

First off, I want to say that I’m a huge pinball fan since I got an Atari 2600 with Virtual Pinball back in 1995. I’d spend hours playing on it trying for a high score, so when I’m able to go to an arcade, I always hit up the pinball sections to see how high of a score I can get. So imagine my surprise when I was given an opportunity to try a themed pinball set for Zen Pinball 2. After downloading the Fox Digital Entertainment Balls of Glory corroboration pack for Zen Pinball 2(ZP2), it came with four

PlayStation Plus Review: PS4 October 2015

Posted on October 19, 2015 by Kenny Keelan

In a slight change of pace, Sony decided to give us PlayStation Plus users a chance to delve into some great indie titles for the PlayStation 4: Broken Age and Super Meat Boy, both games I have never given myself the chance to play. I find that, usually, the PlayStation Plus titles were merely alright – while they’re great by indie standards and stand the test of time, for some of them, they didn’t always hit home with me – and this was a welcome change. Broken Age Put together by Tim Schafer and the fine folks at Double Fine Productions, Broken Age

Jotun is a fun, beautiful, romp for all 5 senses

Posted on October 19, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

Do you like Beautiful hand drawn art and simple but challenging combat with massive bosses? Then Jotun is the game for you. The game’s hand drawn art is so beautiful you’ll wonder if you’re playing a videogame or a story book.  Jotun is an exploration game created by William Dubé, originally launched on kickstarter, and now released on steam for $14.99. You play as Thora, a Viking warrior who died an inglorious death (falling off her ship and drowning) and must face the challenges of purgatory to escape and be allowed to enter Valhalla. Along the way she will have

I Shall Remain Review

Posted on October 17, 2015 by Fionna Schweit

review by special guest editor Focks (Editors note: this is a very long game, and due to print time constraints, only about 4 hours of game play were unlocked.) I Shall Remain is an indie, post-apocalyptic, ARPG zombie game, Published and developed by Scorpius Games. Set in the aftermath of WW2, the Nazis have released a deadly virus in the US. The game tells the story of two brothers and their relation to the world that emerged because of the virus. ISR has real time character progression and RPG systems, over 100 abilities, many weapons and weapon enhancers, plenty of infected,

Rock Band 4 Review – “Once More With Feeling”

Posted on October 13, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

There was a time when the Rock Band franchise was on top of the world and being played by millions of console owners worldwide. Like most celebrity stories an eventual decline in fame is to be expected after a string of successive hits. After nearly five years out of the limelight Harmonix returns with a brand new game for a new generation of consoles. For returning players – like myself – is it time to get the band back together? Or is Rock Band 4 a greatest hits album that you could easily skip over?

Hands-On With The Star Wars Battlefront Beta

Posted on October 10, 2015 by Rae Michelle Richards

Our staff played a combined 10 hours of the Star Wars Battlefront beta on Windows PC this weekend and are ready to share their field reports. It should be noted that these are early impressions based upon a beta build of an un-released game and as such the final game may address some of the issues we are about to discuss. Fionna Fox’s Impressions IT happened at 11:35 on the second day of the beta, with a slight almost cash register type of sound I bought the last item available for unlock in the beta. I had done it! I
