Posted on July 30, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

SEGA’s Japanese themed real time strategy title, Total War: Shogun 2, just got a booster shot with the release of nine brand new units. These aren’t any regular units either, they are legendary heroes of battle who have been hardened by countless battles and reveled in the defeats of many of their enemies. These new units include the club wielding Tadakatsu’s Tetsubo Warriors, the spears of Shizugatake and Hanzo’s Shadows, an elite group of Ninja. All nine of these units are playable in the Single and Multiplayer portions of Total War: Shogun 2. We’ve embedded the official trailer from SEGA

Indie Gala Seven Begins

Posted on July 30, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Indie Gala has just launched its seventh “pay what you want” game bundle. If you purchase a copy of this bundle, you can choose how to split up your money between the developers, two charities, and Indie Gala. The charities you may donate to in this bundle are the Italian Red Cross (to help in efforts in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy that suffered from a series of earthquakes in May) and AbleGamers, which works to help make video games more accessible for disabled people. They’ve got a couple of great games in this bundle (each of which will

Ubisoft Announces GamesCom Lineup

Posted on July 25, 2012 by Rae Michelle Richards

Ubisoft has a pretty big stable of highly anticipated games coming to Germany’s Gamescom next month. I’m pretty sure everyone expected Assassin’s Creed III and Assassin’s Creed Liberation to be there in full form but how about a chance to check out ZombieU, their much talked about survival horror game from this June’s E3? On top of the playable demos for the above games Ubisoft will also be hosting a press conference on August 15th at 3PM where they promise to announce at least one new free to play game. Check out the full list of games set to be

See Insomniac Games’ Outernauts On Facebook

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Seung Lee

Outernauts
Starting today, Outernauts is playable on the biggest social networking site right now, Facebook. What is Outernauts? It’s a new game from the folks that brought you classics such as Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Spyro the Dragon. As for how it plays, Outernauts is much like the popular Pokémon franchise. According to the press release from EA, players will “explore planets, harvest loot, and fight asynchronously alongside or against friends to master a wild, untamed universe.” Don’t think that Outernauts is just a simple flash game to waste an hour or two on though. Ted Price, President and Founder

Left 4 Dead 2 Patched and Cold Stream Release Date Set

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

While PC gamers have been able to play Left 4 Dead 2’s Cold Stream DLC content for a year now, a release date has finally been set for the Xbox 360. Cold Stream, which includes the new Cold Stream campaign as well as the entire original Left 4 Dead campaigns that haven’t already been released as DLC, will be available for the 360 on July 24th. Meanwhile, the PC version of the DLC has just received a substantial patch that makes all of the games mutations (like my beloved Taaannnk!! mutation) accessible from the main menu. Additionally, there are a

Arma 2: Combined Operations Patch Released

Posted on July 24, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

After Day Z came out, Arma 2: Combined Operations has sold, and this is just a rough estimate, about a bazillion copies. In fact, it always seemed to be in the top 5 best sellers of the latest Steam summer sale even when it wasn’t heavily discounted. Now that so many more people are playing Arma2: Combined Operations, Bohemia Interactive has released a patch (version 1.62) for the title. The press release promises lots of “fixes to multiplayer, which- aside for the large scale military battles, will also make zombie hunts much less prone to crashes and should improve server

Meet the Mechromancer In Borderlands 2

Posted on July 23, 2012 by Seung Lee

Mechromancer
The fine folks over at Gearbox Software have been diligently working on Borderlands 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year (for me anyway). Thanks to their hard work, Borderlands 2 has just gone into certification for release. Now, while the on-disc content may be finished, that doesn’t mean that the downloadable content isn’t. The Mechromancer class is just one of the many pieces of extra content that players can expect in the future. I know what you might be thinking right now: “Why are the developers already thinking about DLC? Why can’t they just include this stuff on

Steam Summer Sale Deals for July 19th

Posted on July 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Well, yesterday’s plot didn’t work out so well, and the Steam Sale marches on. I’ve been thinking about ways to stop this ravager of wallets. Perhaps I’ll start a Kickstarter project to bring an end to these deals. The basic concept is that I will build some sort of giant magnet as well as a “mancannon.” We’ll suck out Valve employees with the magnet and shoot them into the Puget Sound with the mancannon, forcing Gabe Newell to end this madness. I’m estimating that this will cost several million dollars and can only hope that EA’s Senior Vice President of

Registrations have begun for Quakecon 2012. As always the annual bring your own computer LAN party will be free to attend, though there are a few paid options, including a swag pack (featuring both an official QuakeCon 2012 and a Dishonored t-shirt). In addition to the LAN party, the event will feature the annual keynote address by John Carmack, opportunities to play both Dishonored and Doom 3: BFG edition. Additionally, there will be panels featuring people like Marty Stratton from id Software, Ted Price of Insomniac Games, and Chet Faliszek and Tom Leonard from Valve Software.  This year’s event, hosted

Carrier Command: Gaea Mission Teaser Trailer Released

Posted on July 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Bohemia Interactive just released a nebulous teaser trailer for their upcoming real time strategy game/ vehicle simulator hybrid Carrier Command: Gaea Mission. As the name suggests, this is a remake of 1988’s Carrier Command. The basic gist of the game is that the players’ main base is an aircraft carrier used to launch assaults on various islands and, naturally, the enemy carrier. In addition to playing it like an RTS, you can assume direct control over any individual unit dispatched from your carrier. You wouldn’t learn any of this from the teaser trailer below, so we’ve also added a link

Highlights from the tour are available on their tumbler page. The first stop was New York City, where they showed off the upcoming Salem MMO. MechWarrior Online Community Day and Centurion Mech Announced

Posted on July 19, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

Mechwarrior Online Developers Piranha Games have been very busy this week. First, they released a video showcasing the upcoming free-to-play game’s latest Mech, the Centurion. This medium sized Mech is sort of like the T-34 of Mechs, boasting a good mix of speed, armor, and firepower. You can watch the video with some pretty gameplay footage below. [youtube id=”3m24i6iTeyc” width=”600″ height=”350″] Additionally, Piranha games, Nvidia, and Infinite Game Publishing (the publisher of Mechwarrior online),  are hosting a MechWarrior Online Community Day in Santa Clara, California at 5 p.m. on July 27th. The event, an invitation only affair, will let the

Steam Summer Sale Deals For July 18th

Posted on July 18, 2012 by Daniel Shannon

The Steam Summer Sale continues despite my best attempts at monkeywrenching. In fact, I used all the knowledge at my disposal. For instance, while cutting my cable company’s fiber optic lines, I made certain to cut a section of wire out and take it with me. That makes things harder for the technicians to fix. I also used a taser on my modem and router for good measure. Then I discovered that this DIDN’T affect Steam in anyway. In fact it just messed things up for me. Oh boy, am I in a pickle now! On the plus side, I
