Just Deserts: More about girls than the game | review

Posted on August 12, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Most of the time with a VN you get a great story, a set of cute characters that fit in to a single archetype. Usually you will have the various dere girls, the cute nerd, and at least one more type, sometimes shes the clumsy one, sometimes shes the super hot one. Doesn’t really matter, point is that you get a set of girls, usually introduced right away and yourself the player character who is trying to woo them. This is done via a fairly simple set of interactions that raise how much a girl likes you over time eventually

CD Projekt Red’s GWENT Closed Beta Delayed Until October

Posted on August 10, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

It looks like GWENT, the digital collectable card game based upon The Witcher universe will need a bit of extra time in development before beginning its closed beta phase of testing. Originally CD Projekt RED had promised perspective players a September release for the closed beta but it looks like plans have been pushed back until October 25th. The GWENT development team sent out a press release earlier this morning. Here is what they had to say: “We know we can make a first impression only once, and want to be sure everything is ready before we blast off. Delivering a

Roccat SOVA Hardware Review

Posted on August 10, 2016 by Broken Joysticks

Review by: J. C. Campbell The Roccat Sova is a handsome black illuminated PC keyboard and mouse pad for your lap. It’s designed to deliver the same control you’d expect from a normal desktop setup, but in your lap. Either while you’re sitting on the couch or anywhere else you might have a flat surface. It meets this goal admirably as long as you’re using it on a PC with Windows. It does not have linux at the time of this review, beyond simple USB keyboard typing. The styling of the Sova is black and sleek, but it’s by no

DOOM Single Player Review: (Chain)Saw Me Up Inside

Posted on August 9, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

After following id Software’s DOOM revival for more than two years I finally got the chance to chew through the lengthy campaign for this reimagining of the 1990s FPS classic. While the reception of the game’s multiplayer component have been met mostly with jeers the single player surprised critics and fans alike. Now that the game is available at hefty discounts should you reenlist with the United Aerospace Corporation or sit this one out? Unlike the over decade’s old Doom III this new DOOM is well aware of why fans are going to be playing this game’s single player: to brutally murder hordes

Posted on August 8, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Idea Factory International’s two most recent PlayStation Vita releases, Megatagmension: Blanc + Neptune VS. Zombies and Trillion: God of Destruction receive a bump up to 1080p as they head to PC this Fall. Blanc + Neptune Vs. Zombie is a spin-off game from the main Hyperdimension Neptunia series that sees regular protagonist Neptune partner with Blanc & Co to take on Zombies while trying to save GamesIndustrie academy from being closed down due to low attendance while also producing a film that also happens to include the undead. This mixture of the series’ signature humor, real-time battles and a high school twist on the existing Neptunia formula

Posted on August 7, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Last year’s Star Wars Battlefront reboot will receive its third add-on DLC in just a few weeks. We’ve known for a while that players would be taking to the lower orbit  above the Death Star to fight alongside Luke or Vader and now we’ve got some more details about $14.99 DLC – which two new heroic units will be joining, two of the  new vehicles and a brand new mechanics for the Death Star’s included maps. Players will build up a separate experience level tied to the individual maps, based upon the level earned your objectives will change. In example: a player with low experience

We Happy Few preview

Posted on August 6, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

We happy few is a game that appeared from nowhere to immense hype. A video at the Microsoft press conference showed a grim dystopian world in 1960s England. E3’s trailer peaked the interest of all involved with its dark atmosphere and air of mystery.  Well mystery no more, the folks at Compulsion Games have given PC gamers a chance to play their game while its still in early access. There is no story in the game, but its possible that you could be spoiled by my discussions of game mechanics, the atmosphere, and the perceived back story so far. So,

Rocket League Championship Series Finals this weekend on Twitch

Posted on August 5, 2016 by Fionna Schweit

Rocket League is a staff favorite. It was one of the first things I wrote about. And, I still frequently write about it. So even though I myself am unable to play it at a high level I am always excited to watch it. And, there are none more exciting to watch then the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS). Typically the RLCS is one of those things that I would only follow when it updated, but was always sure to catch the finals. those finals are this weekend. Psyonix and Twitch are teaming and ask fans to tune in to

Quake Champions Gameplay Trailer Debuts At QuakeCon

Posted on August 4, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

At QuakeCon Bethesda debuted the first gameplay trailer for 2017’s arena shooter Quake Champions alongside extended gameplay footage for attendees. In this debut footage, we get our first glimpse at the first person brutal mayhem that will await us next year. The trailer is heavy on rocket jumping, exploding enemies into giblets and the vertical level design that made Quake III such a popular game over 17 years ago. ID Software will be live-streaming multiplayer footage live on the Quakecon Twitch.tv channel tomorrow afternoon and there are a number of panels that will also be live-streamed for those of us who couldn’t be

AMD RX 480 Still In Short Supply One Month After Launch

Posted on August 4, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

AMD’s RX 480 launched over a month ago and it appears that many potential owners are having trouble getting their hands on either reference cards (the original launch version) or those made by third party manufacturers. What could be causing this lack of readily available supply? Multiple posters have taken to the R/AMD Reddit to posit their theories & vent their frustrations. One line of thinking, like TheMormonAthiest discussed on Reddit, suggests that maybe bitcoin miners are using the relatively low-cost AMD RX 480 for their mining rigs. Others have suggested that adoption of the RX 480 hasn’t been as

Universal Windows Platform Apps Comes To Clickteam Fusion 2.5

Posted on July 28, 2016 by Rae Michelle Richards

Creating a video game can be daunting for seasoned pros and possibly completely overwhelming for the absolute beginner. I’ve written a few times about Clickteam Fusion 2.5 and why I believe that it is probably the #1 most user friendly way to make your first game. Now, the folks at Clickteam have given users of their scripting free system the ability to bring their creations to both Xbox One and the Windows Store via Windows Universal Apps (or UWP). What is UWP? It is Microsoft’s framework for universal programs that can run on any device that runs a Windows 10 operating system. Whether
