Animal Crossing update happening this week?

Posted on January 28, 2018 by Jason Nason

Last week there was a notice posted in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp that a big update was coming soon. That update may be almost upon us. The game has been updated to version 1.1.4 in the Google Play store and upon installing the update the game prompts to download a large update (around 60MB or so) to your device. This is undoubtedly the content for the newest update, which is certainly right around the corner. Updates for Nintendo’s mobile games tend to go live at around 1:00am ET so, the update may go live late tonight. Save for that

No Date For NA Arena of Valor Switch Beta Test, Transfer of Mobile Progress Possible

Posted on January 18, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

Popular mobile Multiplayer Online Battle Arena Arena of Valor was originally set to make its debut on the Nintendo Switch in North America last month, needless to say the scheduled beta Christmas time beta test never materialized.  Outlet Comicbook.com got a chance to sit down wth reps from publisher TenCent and get an update on the upcoming Switch port, plans for North American beta testing and obviously quite a few questions about the licensed D.C Comics heroes. It seems like TenCent will roll the beta version of Arena of Valor in European territories first with North America to follow sometime

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Opera Omnia Brings FF Action To Mobile Phones

Posted on January 16, 2018 by Rae Michelle Richards

PlayStation 4 isn’t the only place where Final Fantasy characters from across the mainline series will do battle against one another. It turns out that Cloud, Sephiroth, Y’Sthola, Steiner and dozens of other FF mainstays will be making their way to mobile phones later this month with the release of Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia for Apple iOS and Google Android.  Unlike its console sibling, Dissidia NT, Opera Omnia turns back the clock to the classic Final Fantasy days and features a turn based battle system like those found in the SNES and PlayStation era titles. The battle system in Opera Omnia isn’t a direct copy of older

Pokemon From Generation III and Real Time Weather Coming To Pokemon GO

Posted on December 7, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Pokemon from the Hoen region are about to find their way into our world with the rollout of pocket monsters from Generation III in Pokemon GO. Over the next few weeks, Niantic will make 50 different monsters from Ruby and Sapphire catchable in the augmented reality game.   Also coming to Pokemon GO for the first time is real-world weather that will affect gameplay. No longer will it be pouring rain on your virtual self while back, in reality, it is bone dry. Weather in POGO won’t just be cosmetic either, it will change which monsters you might find in the wild as well as other factors like combat power and stardust.  Here is what Niantic’s

Capcom’s Mobile Puzzle Fighter Is Surprisingly Fun

Posted on November 29, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Puzzle Fighter
Over the weekend I noticed that Capcom’s brand new mobile version of the classic Puzzle Fighter franchise had finally launched on iOS in Canada, giving me the opportunity to finally try it out for myself. As with any free to play title, I was weary of the specter of constant microtransactions, loot boxes and RNG paywalls. Puzzle Fighter is a surprisingly fun little diversion in spite of its monetization and questionable art direction.  Puzzle Fighter dates back to the 1996 PlayStation Original that featured adorable chibi sprite versions of Street Fighter II fan favorites like Ryu, Chun-Li and E Honda who battled each other using a tacking block mechanic, not unlike the one found in SEGA’s Columns. Puzzle Fighter for mobile retains this gameplay – asking players to stack together similarly colored

Microtransactions Outpacing Game Sales Sets a Worrying Precedent

Posted on November 9, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

You might have already heard the news yesterday: Ubisoft mentioned on their Investor’s Call that “Player Recurring Investments” (read: microtransactions) have outpaced the sale of full price and discounted digital copies of their games for the first time ever. In terms of raw numbers of the 343 million euros the company made from their digital businesses 175 million Euros were the result of “Player Recurrent Investments” (which include microtransactions, add-on DLCs, Rainbow Six Siege Season Passes, subscriptions and those sorts of things). The 83% rise in microtransaction purchases over the past year for Ubisoft could signal the tipping point where small recurring payments within the AAA games

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Coming to Mobile Devices in Late November

Posted on October 24, 2017 by Jason Nason

One of Nintendo’s most enduring franchises, Animal Crossing is coming to mobile devices for the first time in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. The new smart device game allows players to decorate and expand their camper home, and learn more about the community they are part of. In the first Animal Crossing game for mobile devices, you can interact with animal friends, craft furniture items and gather resources while managing a campsite. It’s a slight departure from the core Animal Crossing gameplay but it looks like another laid back and enjoyable experience. Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp launches on iOS- and Android-compatible mobile devices in late November. “As

Pokemon Go Has Been Dropping Less Items For Some Players For A While Now

Posted on October 24, 2017 by Rae Michelle Richards

Walking through downtown Calgary tonight I decided to login to Pokemon Go for the first time in several months and catch some spooky monsters from the Halloween event. My usual walking route contains approximately 20 or so PokeStops including a few Gyms, so when walking it forward & back, filling my item bag is usually par for the course. Except for tonight I noticed something odd – every Stop/Gym was only giving me two items. What the hell…  After some sleuthing (e.g. Using Google) it turns out the Niantic has been messing with the drop rates of both PokeStops & Gyms for at least the past two weeks. Back on October 11th Reddit user, vtmcouver reported that they had begun

Animal Crossing Direct coming Tuesday

Posted on October 23, 2017 by Jason Nason

Nintendo announced this morning that there will be a special Nintendo Direct planned for tomorrow. The Direct will be focused solely on the Animal Crossing mobile app. A mobile app based in the Nintendo franchise was announced long ago with no details aside from being dated for 2017. The presentation tomorrow should give us all the information we need including release date, pricing, as well as just what the app will be about. Will this be a mobile version of the popular game? Will it connect somehow to the 3DS title or allow for some functionality between the two titles?
