XCOM 2 will be out by the end of the week, but for those of you that can’t wait that long developer Firaxis Games showed off the game’s opening cinematic during a twitch livestream at Pax South. The livestream also showed off the launch mods for the game created by Long War studios. The footage has been archived and the trailer is currently viewable here.

XCOM 2 will shift the focus of the game from planetary defense to guerrilla warfare, with the titular agency having gone underground after the aliens from the first game have taken over Earth. No longer is your base stationary but instead you will be hopping from country to country, trying to gather resources and hit the enemy where it hurts before retreating back to the shadows. As someone who found the original game a bit lacking in the base building aspect, I find the change to be an interesting one. Maybe the unique spin will no longer make me long for the days when I could stack up on scientist and rush the aliens down before they figured out how to build something other than Sectoids. I’m looking forward to getting my filthy human hands on the game come February 5th.
